  • This study analyzed the evaluations of instructors and experts on flipped learning-based engineering in order to suggest improvement strategies. This study was conducted with 8 engineering courses which participated in the flipped learning course development project of C university from 2017-2018. As a result of the analysis, the instructors and experts pointed out that the pre-learning was not performed and checked effectively. In this regard, the instructors suggested the students' burden of pre-learning, the lack of understanding about flipped learning, and the experts suggested the lack of instructional strategies to facilitate pre-learning. In addition, the instructors and the experts pointed out that the courses were still instructor-centered. The instructors evaluated that they operated the instructor-led course by themselves. In addition, the experts suggested that there was not enough instructional strategies to activate the learner-centered activities. The number of the students and the lecture room environment that were not appropriate for the learner- centered class were the evaluation opinions of both the instructors and the experts. In addition, the professor suggested the lack of understanding and preparation of the flipped learning of the instructors and the learner as the main opinion, and the experts pointed out that the online learning system and classroom was not linked for pre-learning, classroom learning, and the post-learning. Based on these results, suggestions for improvement of flip learning based engineering course were suggested.

  • Flipped learning, which involves listening to lectures at home and performing dynamic group-based problem-solving activities in the classroom, is recently evaluated as a learner-centered teaching method, and interest and applications in engineering education are increasing. Therefore, this study aims to provide practical guidelines for successful application through empirical research analysis on the use of flipped learning in domestic engineering education. Through the selection criteria and keyword search, a systematic review of 36 articles was conducted. As a result of the analysis, flipped learning research in engineering education has increased sharply since 2016, focusing on academic journals and reporting its application cases and effects. Most of the research supported that flipped learning was effective not only for learners' learning activities(e.g., academic achievement, satisfaction, engagement, learning-flow, interaction), but also for individualized learning and securing sufficient practice time. It was often used in major classes with 15 to less than 50 students, especially in computer-related major courses. Most of them consisted of watching lecture videos, active learning activities, and lectures by instructors, and showed differences in management strategies for each class type. Based on the analysis results, suggestions for effective flipped learning management in future engineering education were presented.

  • This study examined difficulties middle school students have in learning mathematics and proposed a flipped classroom consisting of Khan Academy activities, small-group problem solving, and mathematical modeling to help improve their learning. A mixed-method approach was used to identify difficulties students have in learning mathematics, explore how the flipped classroom helped them reduce the learning difficulties identified, and examine if there were differences in students' mathematics achievement and their affective characteristics after participating in the flipped classroom. Qualitative analyses showed that students had difficulties in understanding mathematical concepts and finding effective ways to learn as well as negative views towards learning mathematics. This study also found that each activity of the flipped classroom had a different impact on student learning. Before class, the Khan Academy activities were most likely to help students understand mathematical concepts. In class, small-group problem solving activities were most helpful for students who had trouble finding effective learning methods and environments. Mathematical modeling activities were most likely effective in changing students' negative views towards mathematics. A quantitative analysis showed that the flipped classroom not only significantly improved the students' mathematics achievement, but also positively affected their confidence and motivation and how much they valued learning mathematics.

  • The hybrid teaching approach of "MOOC + SPOC + Flipped Classroom" overcomes the constraints of time and space that are typically associated with traditional teaching methods, thus compensating for the shortcomings of traditional approaches. These changes in education are driven by the "Internet+" wave and the growing popularity of online teaching. The "MOOC + SPOC + Flipped Classroom" hybrid teaching mode can successfully compensate for the drawbacks of traditional teaching methods, thereby overcoming their restrictions. By defining relevant concepts, one can distill the key characteristics of the "MOOC + SPOC + Flipped Classroom" hybrid teaching mode. Formative assessment was employed to thoroughly evaluate the effectiveness of this teaching approach. By leveraging the advantages of massive open online course (MOOC), small private online course (SPOC), and flipped classroom, the "MOOC +SPOC + Flipped Classroom" teaching mode incorporates real-time student assessment through peer evaluation, computer-aided evaluation, and teacher evaluation. This mode promotes the simultaneous development of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, helping students to establish strong foundations while fostering their practical abilities. While the traditional teaching method remains fruitful, the convenience of today's network allows the teaching profession to continually evolve. The traditional teaching mode heavily relies on teachers, making it impossible to conduct lessons without them. However, the development of MOOC enables students to seek knowledge online from their preferred teachers, rather than solely relying on their assigned instructors.
