The passive control methods such as horizontal and vertical fences on the lower surface of the bluff body were applied to suppress the vortex shedding and enhance the aerodynamic stability of flow. For investigating the effects of the passive control methods, wind tunnel experiments on the unsteady flow field around a bluff body near a moving ground were performed. The boundary layer and velocity profiles were measured by the Hot Wire Anemometer (HWA) system and the vortex shedding patterns and flow structures in a wake region were visualized via the Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) system. Also, it is a measuring on moving ground condition that the experimental values of the critical gap distances, Strouhal numbers and aerodynamic force FFT analyses. Through the experiments, we found that the momentum supply due to moving ground caused the vortex shedding at the lower critical gap distance rather than that of fixed ground. The horizontal and vertical fences increase the critical gap distance and it can suppress the vortex shedding. Consequently, the stability characteristics of the bluff body near a moving ground could be effectively enhanced by the simple passive control such as the vertical fences.
Current seismic codes require from the seismically designed structures to be capable to withstand inelastic deformation. Many studies dealt with the development of different inelastic spectra with the aim to simplify the evaluation of inelastic deformation and performance of structures. Recently, the concept of inelastic spectra has been adopted in the global scheme of the performance-based seismic design through capacity-spectrum methods. In this paper, the median of the ductility demand ratio for 80 ground motions are presented for different levels of normalized yield strength, defined as the yield strength coefficient divided by the peak ground acceleration (PGA). The influence of the post-to-preyield stiffness ratio on the ductility demand is investigated. For fixed levels of normalized yield strength, the median ductility versus period plots demonstrated that they are independent of the earthquake magnitude and epicentral distance. Determined by regression analysis of the data, two design equations have been developed; one for the ductility demand as function of period, post-to-preyield stiffness ratio, and normalized yield strength, and the other for the inelastic deformation as function of period and peak ground acceleration valid for periods longer than 0.6 seconds. The equations are useful in estimating the ductility and inelastic deformation demands for structures in the preliminary design. It was found that the post-to-preyield stiffness has a negligible effect on the ductility factor if the yield strength coefficient is greater than the PGA of the design ground motion normalized by gravity.

Recently this country has carried out the coast reclamation centering on the west and south coast for effective practical use of a country, considering purchase of materials and environmental problem, most reclaiming work is processing to spoil reclamation which is easy to secure the amount of materials. In case of weak ground that is formed by spoil reclamation like this, initial moisture content is high, as slurry state that is rarely revealed ground strength, compressibility and water permeability have been shown nonlinear change by compaction progress. Analysis of weak ground is unreasonable because the existing Terzaghi compaction theory analyzes compaction fixed number to regular invariable number for prediction of compaction state. This study computes the relation with void ratio-effective pressure and void ratio-finite transformation which is the most basic matter to predict finite strain compaction state of the south coast spoil, and analyze the basic feature to predict compaction feature of the south coast spoil reclaimed ground.

In this paper, the effects of the position and the angle of the auxiliary probes on the measurements of the low frequency ground impedance with the fall-of-potential method are described iud the testing techniques to minimize the measuring errors are proposed. The fall-of-pot ential method is theoretically based on the potential and current measuring principle and the measuring error is primarily caused by the position and angle of auxiliary probes. In order to analyze the characteristics of ground impedance due to the location of the potential probe, ground impedances were measured in case that the distance of current probe was fixed at 50[m] and the distance of potential probe was located from 10[m] to 50[m]. Also, the potential robe was located at 30[$^{\circ}$], 40[$^{\circ}$], 60[$^{\circ}$], 90[$^{\circ}$], and 180[$^{\circ}$]. The results could be help to determine the location of potential probe when the ground impedance was measured at grounding system.
In this paper, we present a simple ground receiving station as an educational method for a satellite system. Our system is produced similarly to the existing fixed ground station in terms of function by using satellite communication technology and related software commonly used in the amateur radio field. In addition, we conducted operation test to receive signals from operating satellites and confirmed the possibility of using them as a way to educate satellite systems, such as understanding ground station systems through satellite reception experience and satellite state information acquisition, and further designing satellite systems.
Dynamic behavior of flexible rectangular liquid storage structures is analysed by the developed method. The rectangular liquid storage structures are assumed to be fixed to the ground and a moving coordinate system is used. The irrotational motion of invicid and incompressible ideal fluid is represented by two analytic solutions. One is the solution of the fluid motion in the rigid rectangular liquid storage structure due to ground motions and the other is the solution of the fluid motion by the motion of the wall in the flexible rectangular liquid storage structure. The motion of structure is modeled by finite elements. The fluid-structure interaction effect is reflected into the coupled equation of motion as added fluid mass matrix. The free surface sloshing motion and hydrodynamic pressure acting on the wall in the flexible rectangular liquid storage structure due to the horizontal ground motion are obtained by the developed method and verified.
This paper describes the optimization of PGS(Patterned Ground Shield) of 5.5 turns rectangular spiral inductor using Taguchi's method. PGS is decrease method of parasite component by silicon substrate among dielectric loss reduction method. By using the taguchi's method, each parameter is fixed upon that PGS high poison(A), slot spacing(B), strip width(C) and overlap turn number(D) of PGS design parameter. Then we verified that percentage contribution and design sensitivity analysis of each parameter and level by signal to noise ratio of larger-the-better type. We consider percentage contribution and design sensitivity of each parameter and level, and then verify that model of optimization for PGS is lower inductance decreasing ratio and higher Q-factor increasing ratio by EM simulation.
This paper investigates the seismic behavior of reinforced concrete shear wall buildings with multiple underground stories. A base-case where the buildings are modeled with a fixed condition at ground level is adopted, and then the number of basements is incrementally increased to evaluate changes in performance. Two subsurface site conditions, corresponding to very dense sands and medium dense sands, are used for the analysis. In addition, three ground shaking levels are used in the study. Results of the study indicated that while the common design practice of cropping the structure at the ground surface leads to conservative estimation of the base shear for taller and less rigid structures; it results in unpredicted and nonconservative trends for shorter and stiffer structures.
In this work, we investigate the quasi-static crawling of the four-bar mechanism. Since the crawling of the mechanism is based on sliding of contact points of the mechanism with the ground, interaction forces and friction forces at contact points of the mechanism with the ground should be computed. For this purpuse, we introduce the concept of imaginary joints to find these forces. Therefore, we are able to treat the closed mechanism as a serial one. Also, sliding conditions of the mechanism in quasi-static equilibrium are examined. Lastly, the required torques for the mechanism to crawl with respect to various configurations of the mechanism but with a fixed ground friction are investigated.
A procedure to analyse the space frame structure fixed at base as well as resting on sliding bearing using total or absolute displacement in dynamic equation is developed. In the present method, the effect of ground acceleration is not considered as equivalent force. Instead, the ground acceleration is considered as a known value in the acceleration vector at degree of freedom corresponding to base of the structure when the structure is in non-sliding phase. When the structure is in sliding phase, only a force equal to the maximum frictional resistance is applied at base. Also, in this method, the stiffness matrix, mass matrix and the damping matrix will not change when the structure enters from one phase to another. The results obtained from the present method using absolute displacement approach are compared with the results obtained from the analysis of structure using relative displacement approach. The applicability of the analysis is also demonstrated to obtain the response of the structure resting on sliding bearing with restoring force device.
