A Relative Efficiency Assessment Model for Logistics Systems (물류체계의 상대적 효율성 평가모형)

  • We propose a series of methodologies that can evaluate relative efficiency of logistics units(centers) in three categories; managerial, cost, and operational efficiency. Inputs and outputs of logistics systems are first defined. Appropriate quantitative and qualitative measures for the three categories are then selected. Employed also are Analytic Hierarchy Process, Weighted Scoring Method, Stochastic Frontier Model, and Data Envelopment Analysis for the development of a comprehensive assessment scheme. Our scheme not only assesses the degree of relative efficiency of logistics units but also identify the sources of inefficiency in each unit The methodologies are applied to a large telecommunications company which operates 12 distribution centers nation wide. Relative efficiencies of the centers are compared using 1995-1997 performance data. Summarized are the level of efficiency of each distribution center for each of the three categories. The degree and sources of inefficiency of each distribution center are also discussed.

Qualitative Research to Understand Environmental Factors of Customer, Foodservice Management, and Competitor and Factors that Improve Customer Quality of Life (질적 연구를 활용한 위탁급식 고객, 급식관리자 및 경쟁자 환경요인과 삶의 질 개선요인 도출)

  • The objective of the current study was to analyze the major factors affecting quality of life improvement for contract foodservice customers by identifying the contract foodservice environment consisting of the customer, foodservice management, and competitor. Qualitative research method was performed on foodservice customers and foodservice management using in-depth interviews. First, the customer environment was classified into three categories, including convenience of location, foodservice management environment into six categories, including comfort level of dining facility, and competitor environment into three categories, including service competition between foodservice providers. Second, quality of life was defined as the level of contentment felt by both the customer and foodservice management consuming the food provided. Third, both the customer and foodservice management perceived that the management environment of contract foodservice had a "medium" effect on quality of customer life. The findings of this study could be applicable for development of a contract foodservice business strategy through objective comparative analysis of the customer, foodservice management, and competitor environments.

Hierarchical classification of Fingerprints using Discrete Wavelet Transform (이산 웨이블릿 변환을 이용한 지문의 계층적 분류)

  • An efficient method is developed for classifying fingerprint data based on 2-D discrete wavelet transform. Fingerprint data is first converted to a binary image. Then a multi-level 2-D wavelet transform is performed. Vertical and horizontal subbands of the transformed data show typical energy distribution patterns relevant to the fingerprint categories. The proposed method with moderate level of wavelet transform is successful in classifying fingerprints into 5 different types. Finer classification is possible by higher frequency subbands and closer analysis of energy distribution.

  • Despite the steady effort of kitchen furniture industry, consumers' complains never seem to decrease. The common storage problem of the houses of different sizes(20 pyeong, 30 pyeong, and 40 pyeong) was the dificiency of storage area and inadequate shelf division. It implies that such dificiency in kitchens is not because of the size of storage area, but because of such a great diversity of kitchenware and lack of studies on these items. The purpose of this research is to provide the checklist of the variety and quantity of stored kitchenware in researched area and easily adopt it to the kitchen furniture design. Studied household in average hold 239 types and about 890 items. The size of residence did not effect the number much. The first step of making the checklist is to categorize items into 9 biggest categories considering the usage of items and in which step of the preparing food the item was used. Second step is to categorize the items into 31 smaller categories reflecting the shape of items, the storage style and the place of storage. Third step is to sort the items into smallest categories by the frequency of use, storage type, and additional capacity of an item. Even when items are sorted into the same higher level of categories, the frequency of use caused storage area to differ. Also, storage style of an item differed according to the storage area. Based on these factors, we listed items in detail and made the checklist.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a checklist based on the stored items of cooking, for making a good kitchen furniture reseach. The research candidates are purposive sampled from 30 households of for 40 or 50 pyeong-type apartments in Kangnam, Seoul, The research data are is collected gotten at by a field study of the stored items of cooking, eating and utility area, by an in-depth interview to 30 households, and by a field survey of the department stores, super-markets of home appliances. Studied households in average hold about 890 items, which are classified as 239 sorts. The first step of making the checklist is to categorize items into 9 biggest categories, considering the usage of items and the stage of the preparing the food. when the item was used. Second step of making the checklist is to categorize the items into 31 smaller categories, which reflect the shape of items, the storage style and the place of storage. Third step of making the checklist is to sort the items into smallest categories by the frequency of the usage, storage type, and the additional capacity of the item. Even Although items are sorted into the same level of categories, the frequency of use make a different storage area. Also, the storage style of the items was different according to the storage area.   • The purpose of this study is to extract a skill level of human resource in the field of science and technology. To accomplish the goal of this study, precedent research was conducted and then, the draft of skill level for Human Resource in the field of Science and Technology (HRST) was created by wrap-up meeting. The skill level of the HRST was finalized after confirming verification of 20 SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) from January to February 2016 by two times. The conclusions are as follows; First, the skill level of the HRST consists five categories. Each of the level has educational background, work experience, certification, duty, major and so on. Second, the contents of the skill level were found to be mostly valid.

A Content Analysis of Sex Education in High School Textbooks Based on Gender Equality (고등학교 성교육 관련 교과 내용 분석 - SIECUS의 양성평등 관점 중심-)

  • The purposes of this study are to analyze sex education content in high school textbooks and to suggest new guidelines for high school sex education content from a gender equality standpoint. The study analyzes sex-related content from high school textbooks based on the 7th curriculum, including subject areas such as Technical/Home Economics, Sciences, Physical Education, Social Studies and Moral Studies. The analysis relies on the framework of Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States that covers 4 levels and 6 categories as well as the framework of Choi (2005) that includes 36 themes in 6 different categories. The results of this study are as follows: First, high school sex-related textbooks are focused mainly on human development and human relations. Secondly, there is a lot of level 3 sex education content within the analyzed textbooks. Third, there are gender inequality issues in the coverage of such topics as pregnancy, contraception and sexual violence. Fourth, there are also gender inequality problems caused by content level. This study recommends that gender inequality issues be included in high school sex education guidelines in the future in order to provide improved and appropriate content for high school level sex education.

Research Trends of Oriental Medicine in Korea and Meta-analysis of Articles related to Stroke in the Journal of Korean Oriental Medicine (한의학회지의 뇌졸중 관련논문을 통한 한의학 연구동향과 질적 메타분석)

  • Objective : There have not been studies on the oriental medicine research trends and qualitative analysis of Korean oriental medicine articles in Korea, particularly in the oriental medicine area. This study's purpose is to appreciate Korean oriental medicine's research trends and assess the quality of the Korean oriental medical journals' level. This study will help upgrade Korean oriental medical journals. Method : We found 93 stroke-related articles in the Journal of Korean Oriental Medicine, published between 1980(Volume 1) and 2001(Volume 45). We surveyed the institutes involved in each study, and the number of people in each study. We seperated by epidemiological study design, the studies into categories. Campbell and Stanley's study design into 6 categories, statistical methods into 13 categories. Next, we assessed the 41 articles by a checklist, which had 10 categories. The quality score was analyzed by survey variables over the period, which were divided by the date of publication: the 1980s, the first half of the 1990s, second half of the 1990s and 2000s. Results : 46.3% od the studies didn't use statistical methods. 56.1%, were case series studies by classification of epidemiological study design, and 53.6% were one-shot case studies designed by Campbell and Stanley's study design. The quality score was 58.33 point 60 is average. In quality level by Browman GP etc.'s, 83.0% of the studies were included in V levels. But, the quality scores were significant by presence of reviewer system, statistical method's usage, and over the period. Conclusion : The Journal of Korean Oriental Medicine needs to improve the quality its articles. To improve the quality of oriental medicine related articles, the following are necessary: working together, joint work of inter-educational system, strengthening of reviewer system, use of statistical methods, and consulting to the expert of research at the stage of study design.

The Relationship among Toddler's Symbolic Play Level, Mother's Responsiveness and Verbal Interaction (만 2세 영아의 상징놀이 수준과 어머니의 반응성 및 언어유형 간의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among toddler's symbolic play level, mother's responsiveness and verbal interaction. The subjects were 56 pairs of 24-29 months old toddlers and their mothers. The toddler's symbolic play level was classified using categories by Gowen(1995). The mother's verbal interaction was coded during a 10-minute-free play session with her toddler using Caldera, Huston, and O'Brien's(1989) categories. PICCOLO(The Parenting Interactions with Child Checklist of Observations Linked to Outcomes) by Roggman, Cook, Innocenti, Jump, Norman, & Christiansen(2009) was used to investigate the mother's responsiveness. While the mothers played with their toddlers during a 10-minute-free play session, their interaction were videotaped. The data were analyzed by means, t-test, and correlations. The results of the study were as follows: First, the mean levels of the toddler's symbolic play were in level 3, 'the pretending others'. Also girls spent more symbolic play time with mothers than boys. Second, mothers' responsiveness was generally high in free play with their toddlers. Mothers frequently used 'questions' 'comments' and 'fantasy statements'. Mothers with girls used more 'questions' than mothers with boys. Third, there was a significant relationship among toddler's symbolic play level, mother's responsiveness and verbal interaction. Maternal responsiveness and 'fantasy statements' were positively related with the mean level, and the frequency of play. The 'questions' and 'answers' were also related with symbolic play level and frequency. But 'praise' was negatively related with symbolic play frequency. In conclusion, this study suggested that toddler's symbolic play level was related with mother's responsiveness and verbal interaction during free play.

Dynamic Customer Population Management Model at Aggregate Level

  • Customer population management models can be classified into three categories: the first category includes the models that analyze the customer population at cohort level; the second one deals with the customer population at aggregate level; the third one has interest in the interactions among the customer populations in the competitive market. Our study proposes a model that can analyze the dynamics of customer population in consumer-durables market at aggregate level. The dynamics of customer population includes the retention curves from the purchase or at a specific duration time, the duration time expectancy at a specific duration time, and customer population growth or decline including net replacement rate, intrinsic rate of increase, and the generation time of customer population. For this study, we adopt mathematical ecology models, redefine them, and restructure interdisciplinary models to analyze the dynamics of customer population at aggregate level. We use the data of previous research on dynamic customer population management at cohort level to compare its results with those of ours and to demonstrate the useful analytical effects which the precious research cannot provide for marketers.
