  • A multi-server queueing system with an infinite buffer and impatient customers is analyzed. The system operates in the finite state Markovian random environment. The number of available servers, the parameters of the batch Markovian arrival process, the rate of customers' service, and the impatience intensity depend on the current state of the random environment and immediately change their values at the moments of jumps of the random environment. Dynamics of the system is described by the multi-dimensional asymptotically quasi-Toeplitz Markov chain. The ergodicity condition is derived. The main performance measures of the system are calculated. Numerical results are presented.

  • The finite buffer GI/G/1/K system is set up by using an unconventional arrangement of the state space, in which the remaining interarrival time or service time is chosen as the level. The stationary distributions of resulting Markov chain can be explicitly determined, and the chain is positive recurrent without any restriction. This is an advantage of this method, compared with that using the elapsed time approach [2].

  • We compared a CONWIP(constant work-in-process) system with a kanban system in a production line with constant processing times. Based on the observation that a WIP-controlled line production system such as CONWIP and kanban is equivalent to a m-node tandem queue with finite buffer, we applied a max-plus algebra based solution method for the tandem queue to evaluate the performance of two systems. Numerical examples with 6 workstations were used to demonstrate the proposed analysis. The numerical results support the previous studies that CONWIP outperforms kanban in terms of expected waiting time and WIP. Unlike the kanban case, sequencing workstations in a CONWIP does not affect the performance of the system.

  • This paper overviews clock design problems related to the circuit reliability in deep submicron design technology. The topics include the clock polarity assignment problem for reducing peak power/ground noise, clock mesh network design problem for tolerating clock delay variation, electromagnetic interference aware clock optimization problem, adjustable delay buffer allocation and assignment problem to support multiple voltage mode designs, and the state encoding problem for reducing peak current in sequential elements. The last topic belongs to finite state machine (FSM) design and is not directly related to the clock design, but it can be viewed that reducing noise at the sequential elements driven by clock signal is contained in the spectrum of reliable circuit design from the clock source down to sequential elements.

  • We study the paper Zhernovyi and Zhernovyi [Zhernovyi, K.Y. and Y.V. Zhernovyi, "An $M^{\Theta}/G/1/m$ system with two-threshold hysteresis strategy of service intensity switching," Journal of Communications and Electronics, Vol.12, No.2(2012), pp.127-140]. In the paper, authors used the Korolyuk potential method to obtain the stationary queue length distribution. Instead, our note makes an attempt to apply the most frequently used methods : the embedded Markov chain and the supplementary variable method. We derive the queue length distribution at a customer's departure epoch and then at an arbitrary epoch.

  • This paper presents the mechanical and thermal stress analysis of a disposal canister to provide basic information for dimensioning the canister and configuration of the canister components. The structural stress analysis is carried out using a finite element analysis code, NISA, and focused on the structural strength of the canister against the expected external pressures due to the swelling of the bentonite buffer and the hydrostatic head, and the thermal load build up in the container.

  • In this paper, flowfield and acoustic-field around moving bodies are simulated by the Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) formulation in FDLBM. The effect of the ALE is checked by comparing flow about a square cylinder in ALE formulation and that in the fixed coordinates, and the results show good agreement. Matching procedure between the moving grid and fixed grid is also considered. The applied method in which the both grids are connected through buffer zone is shown to be superior to moving overlapped grid. Dipole-like emissions of sound wave from harmonically vibrating bodies in 2- and 3-dimensional cases are simulated.

  • This paper presents a decomposition method to evaluate the performance measures of transfer line with unreliable machine and finite buffers. The proposed method is to decompose the transfer fine into a set of two machine lines for analysis. Nonhomogeneous lines are considered. In such fines, the machines may take the different lengths of time performing operations on parts. A simple transformation is employed in order to replace the line by a homogeneous line. The approximate transformation enables one to determine parameters of performance such as production rate and average buffer levels, and it also shows better applications for a large class of systems.

  • This paper presents a extended stochastic Petri net (ESPN) model for CTN(Circulated Token with No duration) service in the data link layer of IEC/ISA fieldbus. It is assumed that a station on the fieldbus has a specified minimum token holding time, a finite capacity buffer, and one transmitter queue with the highest priority. The mean transmission (or service) time at a station and the mean token rotation time for the symmetric fieldbus system atr derived using the presented SPN model and the moment generating function. These performance measures are represented in terms of the minimum token holding time, the number of stations, the arrival rate of messages, and the mean length of messages. The presented performance measure are validated by computer simulations.
