  • In this work, we have prepared organophilic MMT having thermal stability by ion exchange reaction of various aromatic ammonium salts with MMT containing sodium ion. The organic modifiers having alkyl side chains and amine functional group were successfully synthesized by effectively introducing the surfaces of MMT via ion exchange reaction to form organophilic MMTs with a view to improve the reactivity and thermal stability. The WAXD patterns of organophilic MMT showed the more increased gallery spacing by $3.3{\AA}$ than that of the pristine MMT and also the onset of initial decomposition of organophilic MMT was $275^{\circ}C$ as determined by a thermogravimetric analysis. The polyimide (PI) nanocomposite films based on poly(amic acid) and organophilic MMT were prepared by a solution blending followed by cyclodehydration reaction. We have investigated the dispersity of organophilic MMTs in PI matrix by using WAXD and the effect of the organophilic MMT content on the mechanical properties of PI nanocomposite films was studied.

  • This study evaluated the effect 3 types of conditioning (Untreated, Impeller, Roller) and the number of times for tedding (rake-teder) performed in one day on the drying rate of tall fescure hay. The experiment was performed at The forage site of Cheonan-si seongwhan-eup National Institute of Animal Sciencee. It took 3 days to make tall fescue hay. The Impeller and Roller conditioning types shortened the haymaking period by 1 day compared to untreated hay. Impeller and roller samples had less than 20% of water content by the $23^{rd}-day$ at 13 o'clock. Tedding frequency failed to affect haymaking. There was no correlation between the three types of conditioning or tedding frequency and acid digestible fiber (ADF), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), total digestible nutrients (TDF), crude protein (CP), or relative feed value (RFV) in tall fescue hay. CP was 12.5~12.9% for the three types of conditioner with 1 or 2 times of tedding a day, Threrfore, conditioner types and gedding frequency had no significant effect on CP.

  • This experiment was carried out to search for changes of growth and pharmacological component contents by cultivation years in Artemisia capillaris. Percentage of ovenwintering in 1-year old was high as 95.3% but that in 2-years old was very low as 64.2%. Plant height was the highest in 2-years old among the treatments. By the way, number of stems and branches were shown wide difference by cultivation years, so those were the best in 3-years old. It was thought that 3-years old plants dispersed and used their nutrients by increasing branches. Fresh weight was the highest as 200.0 g in 3-years old, whereas weight of capitulum included scoparone, effective component, was the highest as 109.6 g in 2-years old and low as 96.4 g in 3-years old. In general components, crude protein and ash were more included in 1-year old and crude lipid and fiber were more included in 2 and 3-years old. Especially, content of crude fiber in stem was the highest in 3-years old. Pharmacological components were the most existed in capitulum of 2-years old, so contents of scoparone and capillarisin were 6.5 mg/g DW, 1.65 mg/g DW, respectively.

  • The nutritional properties and biological activities of leaves and stems of Gaeddongssuk (Artemisia annua L.) were investigated. Contents of moisture, crude lipid and crude protein were significantly higher in the leaves, and then ash, crude fiber and mineral were significantly higher in the stems. Contents of total phenols and flavonoids of leaves were about 2 fold higher than those of stems. Antioxidant activity was significantly increased in a dose-dependent manner; also, water and ethanol extracts of leaves were stronger than those of stems. Especially, DPPH radical scavenging activity, reducing power and tyrosinase inhibition activity were significantly higher in leaves extracts than stems extracts of Gaeddongssuk. But, ${\alpha}$-glucosidase inhibition activity was higher in stem than its leaves extract. In MTT assay by human breast adenocarcinoma cell line MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231, ethanol extracts of leaves showed the highest anticancer activity; the rates of growth inhibition were 76.26% and 52.59% on MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 cells, at the concentration of $250\;{\mu}g$/mL, respectively. In conclusion, biological activities of extracts from Gaeddongssuk were dependent on the fiber, phenolic and flavonoid content.

  • The effects of cultivar and DAPs on the lignin content and dyeability of the kenaf fibers were investigated. Four kenaf fiber samples were prepared from two cultivars, Tainung 2 and Everglades 41, and their 60 and 120 DAPs(days after planting) for the experiments. The lignin contents of the kenaf fibers of Tainung 2(T2) and Everglades 41(E41) were $11.29{\sim}12.78%$. Both T2 and E41 kenaf fibers had comparable amount of lignin, and klason lignin of the fibers was $2.5{\sim}3$ times as much as much as acid-soluble lignin. In both T2 and E41, 120 DAPs kenaf have 1% more lignin than 60 DAPs kenaf. The moisture regains of the four kenaf fiber samples were almost the same as $10.25{\pm}0.05%$. The absorbances of residual solution after dyeing for $1{\sim}180$ minutes with Red 81 at maximum wavelength 520 nm and Green 26 at 600 nm were measured. Comparing to Green 26, the dyeing rate of Red 81 was rapid and equilibrium state was reached in 12 minutes. The CIE $L^*,\;a^*, \;b^*,\;{\Delta}E$ and K/S values of the kenaf fibers dyed with Red 81 and Green 26 were measured as well. The dye exhaustion ratio of 60 DAPs kenaf was higher than that of 120 DAP.

  • Until now, The experiment about the forage crop have been almost not conducted on the reclaimed land. Therefore, this experiment was carried out in order to know productivity of summer forage crop using slurry composting-biofilteration (SCB) liquid fertilizer on reclaimed land of Hwaong and Sukmoon in korea from 2008 to 2009. The forage crops used in this experiment were corn and sorghum${\times}$sorghum hybrid which are used as summer forage crops in South Korea. The experiment was treated with chemical fertilizer (CF), swine slurry (SS) and SCB liquid fertilizer. Dry matter (DM) yield of corn was higher than those of sorghum${\times}$sorghum hybrid in both reclaimed lands but the effect of SCB liquid fertilizer was not appeared. The neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF) contents of corn were lower than those of sorghum${\times}$sorghum hybrid. The crude protein (CP) content and in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD) of corn were higher than those of sorghum${\times}$sorghum hybrid. In generally feed values of corn were higher than those of sorghum${\times}$sorghum hybrid. The results of this study showed that summer forage crop cultivation using uses SCB liquid fertilizer on reclaimed land are possible.

  • This study investigated the effect of novel Lactobacillus plantarum KCC-10 and KCC-19 on the quality and fermentation characterization of alfalfa silage at the experimental field of National Institute of Animal Science, Cheonan Province, Korea, from 2013 to 2014, and this experiment consisted of the following three treatments: control without lactic acid bacteria; treatment inoculated with L. plantarum KCC-10; and treatment inoculated with L. plantarum KCC-19. The contents of crude protein, acid detergent fiber, neutral detergent fiber, total digestible nutrient and in vitro dry matter digestibility of alfalfa silage were not affected by either L. plantarum KCC-10 or KCC-19. The pH of alfalfa silage in L. plantarum KCC-10 and KCC-19 treatments decreased as compared to control. The level of lactic acid in L. plantarum KCC-10 and KCC-19 treatments increased (p<0.05), whereas the contents of acetic acid and butyric acid decreased(p>0.05). In addition, the numbers of lactic acid bacteria in L. plantarum KCC-10 and KCC-19 treatments increased as compared to control (p<0.05). Therefore, these results suggest that the inoculation of L. plantarum KCC-10 and KCC-19 into alfalfa silage can improve the quality of silage through increased lactic acid content and lactic acid bacteria.

  • Fresh rice straw silage (RSS) was prepared with lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and chlorella (CA) at the experimental field of National Institute of Animal Science, Cheonan Province, Korea. This experiment consisted of the following eight treatments: control treatment without CA and LAB; treatment of 0.1% CA applied without LAB; treatment of 0.5% CA applied without LAB; treatment of 1.0% CA applied without LAB; treatment of only LAB inoculation without CA; treatment of 0.1% CA inoculated with LAB; treatment of 0.5% CA inoculated with LAB; and treatment of 1.0% CA inoculated with LAB. The content of crude protein of RSS significantly elevated with increased concentration of CA (p<0.05). The levels of acid detergent fiber (ADF), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), total digestible nutrient (TDN), and in vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD) showed no significant improvement in all treatments when compared to control. However, the quantity of lactic acid in RSS increased in CA and LAB alone inoculated treatments. Similarly, lactic acid significantly increased in LAB with CA treatments when compared to control. In addition, the number of LAB in LAB treatment increased as compared to control and significantly increased by an increase of CA concentration (p<0.05). Therefore, the nutritive values and quality of RSS can be improved by the addition of CA.

  • The objective of this research was to study the production and quality of forage at three different times of the year (April, June and July) of six winter cereals in the southern plateau of the Iberian Peninsula. The cereals studied were Triticale (xTriticosecale wittm) cv. "Tritano", Oat (Avena sativa L.) cv. "Prevision" and cv. "Saia; Rye (Secale cereale L.) cv. "Giganton", Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) cv. "Cameo" and cv. "Albacete". The study was carried out in three different locations and over three successive years of harvesting. The three variables considered were location, year and cereal. The % dry matter (DM), % crude protein (CP), % acid detergent fiber (ADF), % neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and % ash content were determined for the three sampling periods and the quality was calculated in milk forage units (MFU/kg DM), the production in kg DM/ha, MFU/ha and kg CP/ha. In all three sampling periods the quality of the cereals was significantly influenced only by the year and by species. However, for production of dry matter (kg DM/ha), milk forage units (MFU/ha) and gross protein (kg CP/ha) all three variables were of significant influence as were their interactions. In the April sampling, the species which showed a significantly higher production ($p{\leq}0.05$) was rye (1,693 kg DM/ha), which, along with its forage quality (16.56% CP, 0.886 MFU/kg DM) meant that the same occurred in MFU/ha and kg CP/ha. Significant differences between species were also found for the June sampling. The most productive cereal was again rye with 2,656 kg DM/ha, although its sharp fall in forage quality meant that barley cv Albacete (2,513 kg DM/ha) returned the highest production in forage units (1,934 vs. 1,951 MFU/ha) and barley cv. Cameo (2,413 kg DM/ha) in gross protein production (242 vs. 264 kg CP/ha). The significantly highest cereal production for July was barley cv. Albacete (4,923 kg DM/ha, 9.11% CP 0.722 MFU/kg DM). As a consequence of the results, we conclude that from the viewpoint of nutritional quality and production, rye is the most suitable for use in early spring in whatever year and location. However, barley cv. "Albacete" is the most appropriate for utilisation in later spring or early summer.
