  • Fe-based pigments have attracted much interest owing to their eco-friendliness. In particular, the color of nanosized pigments can be tuned by controlling their size and morphology. This study reports on the effect of length on the coloration of ${\beta}$-FeOOH pigments prepared using an $NH_4OH$ solution. First, rod-type ${\beta}$-FeOOH is prepared by the hydrolysis of $FeCl_3{\cdot}6H_2O$ and $NH_4OH$. When the amount of $NH_4OH$ is increased, the length of the rods decreases. Thus, the length of the nanorods can be adjusted from 10 nm to 300 nm. The color of ${\beta}$-FeOOH changes from orangered to yellow depending on the length of ${\beta}$-FeOOH. The color and phase structure of ${\beta}$-FeOOH is characterized by UV-vis spectroscopy, CIE Lab color parameter measurements, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and powder X-ray diffraction (XRD).

  • The fabrication of Fe alloy-40 wt.%TiC composite materials using spark plasma sintering process after ball-milling was studied. Raw powders to fabricate Fe alloy-TiC composite were Fe alloy, $TiH_{2}$ and activated carbon. Fe alloy powder was Distaloy AE (4%Ni-1%Cu-0.5%Mo-0.01%C-bal.%Fe) made by Hoeganes company with better toughness and lower melting point. These powders were ball-milled in horizontal attrition ball mill at a ball-to-powder weight ratio of 30 : 1. After that, these mixture powders were sintered by using spark plasma sintering apparatus for 5 min at $1200-1275^{\circ}C$ in vacuum atmosphere under $10^{-3}$ torr. DistaloyAE-40 wt.%TiC composite was directly synthesized by dehydrogenation and carburization reaction during sintering process. The phase transformation of as-milled powders and sintered materials was confirmed using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The density and harness materials was measured in order to confirm the densification behavior. In case of DistaloyAE-40 wt.%TiC composite retained for 5 min at $1275^{\circ}C$, it has the relative density of about 96% through the influence of rapid densification and fine TiC particle reinforced Fe-based composites materials.

  • A novel chemical method was evaluated to fabricate the ultrafine tungsten heavy alloy powders with bater-base solution made from the ammonium metatungstate (AMT), iron(II) chloride tetrahydrate ($FeCl_2{\cdot}4H_2O$), nickel(II) chloride hexahydrate ($NiCl_2{\cdot}6H_2O$) as source materials and the sodium tungstate dihydrate ($NaWO_4{\cdot}2H_2O$) as Cl-reductant. In the preparation of mixtures the amounts of the source components were chosen so as to obtain alloy of 93W-5Ni-2Fe composition(wt.%). The obtained powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction, XRF, field-emission scanning microscope (FESEM), and chemical composition was analyzed by EDX.

  • The amorphous $Fe_{73}Si_{16}B_7Nb_3Cu_1$ alloy strip was pulverized to get a flake-shaped powder after annealing at $425^{\circ}C$ for 90 min and subsequently ground to obtain finer flake-shaped powder by using a ball mill. The powder was mixed with polyimide-based binder of $0.5{\sim}3wt%$, and then the mixture was cold compacted to make a toroidal powder core. After crystallization treatment for 1 hour at $380{\sim}600^{\circ}C$, the powder was transformed from amorphous to nanocrystalline with the grain size of $10{\sim}15nm$. Soft magnetic characteristics of the powder core was optimized at $550{\sim}600^{\circ}C$ with the insulating binder of 3wt%. As a result, the powder core showed the outstanding magnetic properties in terms of core loss and permeability, which were originated from the optimization of the grain size and distribution of the insulating binder.

  • This paper describes the manufacturing process of tilting pad gas bearing with a diameter of 5 mm and a length of 0.5-1 mm for power MEMS (Micro Electomechanical Systems) applications. The bearing compacts with nanopowder feedstock were prepared by Ni-metal mold with 2-mold system using LIGA process. The effect of the manufacturing conditions on sintering properties of nanopowder gas bearing was investigated. In this work, Fe-45 wt%Ni nanopowder with an average diameter of 30-50 nm size was used as starting material. After mixing the nanopowder and the wax-based binders, the amount of powder was controlled to obtain the certain mixing ratio. The nanopowder bearing compacts were sintered with 1-2 hr holding time under hydrogen atmospheres and under temperatures of $600^{\circ}C$ to $1,000^{\circ}C$. Finally, the critical batch of mixed powder system was found to be 70% particle fraction in total volume. The maximum density of the sintered bearing specimen was about 94% of theoretical density.

  • Electromagnetic wave absorbing materials have been developed to reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) for electronic devices in recent years. In this study, Fe-Si-B-Nb-Cu base amorphous strip was pulverized using a jet mill and an attritor and heat-treated to get flake-shaped nanocrystalline powders, and then the powders were mixed, cast and dried with dielectric $Al_{2}O_{3}$ powders and binders. As a result, the addition of $Al_{2}O_{3}$ powders improved the absorbing properties of the sheets noticeably compared with those of the sheets without dielectric materials. The sheet mixed with 2 wt% $Al_{2}O_{3}$ powder showed the best electromagnetic wave absorption, which was caused by the increase of the permittivity and the electric resistance due to the dielectric materials finely dispersed on the Fe-based powder.

  • The phosphate coating on the $(Fe_{0.97}Cr_{0.03})_{76}(Si_{0.5}B_{0.5})_{22}C_2$ amorphous powders with an average size of 10 ${\mu}m$ in diameter has been carried out in aqueous 1.0-2.0 wt% $H_3PO_4$ solutions, and the consolidation behavior and magnetic properties of their compressed powder cores has been investigated. The phosphate coating could provide efficient electrical insulation between amorphous powders and improved consolidation ability at room temperature. Especially when the powders were treated in more concentrated phosphoric acid solution, enhanced phosphate covering and higher frequency/dc-bias stability were achieved. The powder cores phosphate-coated in 2.0 wt% $H_3PO_4$ solution exhibited constant permeability of 21 up to 10 MHz, 110 of the quality factor at 0.9 MHz, 610 mW/cm3 core loss at 100 kHz/0.1 T and 89 of percent permeability at 100 kHz.

  • The Fe-Si-B-Nb-Cu alloys containing Ca and Al were rapidly solidified to thin ribbons by melt-spinning. The ribbons were ball-milled to make powders, and then mixed with 1 wt.% water glass and 1.5 wt.% lubricant. The mixed powders were burn-off, and then compacted to form toroidal-shaped cores, which were heat treated to crystallize the nano-grain structure and to remove residual stress of material. The characteristics of the powder cores were analyzed using a differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and a B-H meter. The microstructures were observed using transmission electron microscope (TEM). The optimized soft magnetic properties (${\mu}_i$ and $P_{cv}$) of the powder cores were obtained from the Ca and Al containing alloys after annealing at $530^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. The core loss of Fe-Si-B-Nb-Cu-based powder cores was reduced by the addition of Ca element, and the initial permeability increased due to the addition of Al element.

  • Study on the HDDr Characteristics of Nd16Fe76-xB8Zrx (x=0-2.0) Alloys and the Magnetic Properties of the HDDR Materials Nd16Fe76-xB8Zrx (where x=0-2.0) have been studied to see the effect of Zr addition on HDDR characteristics. A particular emphasis was place upon the anisotropy of the HDDR material. Anisotropy of the HDDR powder material has been evaluated by comparing the remanence values of the aligned sample measured along the aligning direction and the direction perpendicular to it. The HDDR characteristics of the alloys were investigated by means of DAT and TPA. Magnetic chracterisation of the HDDR processed materials was performed using a VSM and a TMA. The magnetic domain structure of the HDDR materials was examined by means of polarised microscope using a solid HDDR processed material. It has veen found that small addition (0.1 at %) of Zr to Nd-Fe-B-type alloy retards thedisproportionatio kinetics of the hydrogenated material. Desorption characteristic of the disproportionated materials has been found not to be affected significantly by the Zr addition. The Zr addition has been found to facilitate size of the powder. As the particle size decreases, the intrinsic coercivity decreases radically, and this is explained in terms of structural damage and/or oxidation caused during mechanical milling. It has also been found that the degree of alignment representing the anisotropic character of the HDDR powder is enhanced with decreasing particle size. Alloys with compositions based on
