  • The magnetic alloys of Cu-Fe ($Cu_{50}Fe_{50},\;Cu_{80}Fe_{20}\;and\;Cu_{90}Fe_{10}$) were prepared by a mechanical alloying method and their structural and magnetic behaviors were examined by X-ray diffraction and Mossbauer spectra. The magnetization curves did not distinctly show the saturation at 70 kOe for the concentrated alloys of $Cu_{80}Fe_{20}\;and\;Cu_{90}Fe_{10}$. The Mossbauer spectrum of $Cu_{80}Fe_{20}$ at room temperature shows one Lorentzian line of the paramagnetic phase, whereas the Mossbauer spectrum of $Cu_{90}Fe_{10}$ consists of sextet Lorentzian line at room temperature and a centered doublet line. The Mossbauer spectra of $Cu_{90}Fe_{10}$ measured in the temperature ranges from 13 to 295 K, implies that $Cu_{90}Fe_{10}$ to consists of two magnetic phases. One superimposed sextet corresponds to the ferromagnetic iron in Cu and the other one indicates the superparamagnetic iron rich phase.

  • Magnetic properties and microstructures of FeTaNC thin films, which were deposited by magnetron reactive sputtering rrethod, were investigated as a function of $CH_{4}$ and $N_{2}$ gas partial pressures. Magnetic properties of FeTaNC films depended on total reactive gas pressure as well as $CH_{4}/N_{2}$ pressure ratios. For reactive gas partial pressures of 5~10 %, optimum magnetic properties were observed in the FeTaNC films with proper $CH_{4}/N_{2}$ ratio. On the other hand, at 15% of gas partial pressure, FeTaN and FeTaC films showed superior properties to FeTaNC films. Above 15%, the magnetic properties of films rapidly degraded due to an excess incorporation of C and/or N atoms. Excellent soft magnetic properties of 17 kG of Bs, 0.3 Oe of He, and 4000 of $\mu'$(at 5 MHz) were obtained in the FeTaNC films. High permeabilities of FeTaNC films could be explained by the Fe lattice distortion caused by N atoms, hence reduction of magnetic anisotopy. While precipitated TaN and TaC particles effectively supress the growth of $\alpha-Fe$ grains leading to a good soft magentic properties, FeN and FeC phases such as $Fe_3N$, $Fe_4N$, FexC have detrimental effects.

  • Exchange coupled $NiFe/TbCo/Sio_{2}$ thin films for magnetoresistive heads were sputter deposited using RF diode sputtering method, and their magnetic characteristics were measured. TbCo films were deposited using a composite target, which is composed of Tb chips epoxied on a Co target. NiFe($400\AA$)/TbCo($1500\AA$)/$SiO_{2}$($500\AA$) films were deposited using a TbCo target having 30 % of Tb area ratio, which showed 25 Oe of the exchange field without substrate bias and 12 Oe with -55 V of substrate bias. The effective in-plane coercivities of the three layer films fabricated with less than -55 V of substrate bias were approximately proportional to the perpendicular coercivities of the TbCo layer only. The films fabricated with a Theo target of 28 % area ratio showed the same trend. However, the exchange field decreased to 4 Oe without the substrate bias and 7 Oe with -55 V of substrate bias. In the films fabricated with 1000 W of power and the target of 36 % area ratio exhibited 100 Oe of exchange field and 3 Oe of coercivity. As the thickness of NiFe layer increased, the exchange field decreased.

  • Pure $BiFeO_3$ (BFO) and codoped $Bi_{0.9}A_{0.1}Fe_{0.975}Zn_{0.025}O_{3-{\delta}}$ (A=Eu, Dy) thin films were prepared on Pt(111)/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si(100) substrates by chemical solution deposition. The remnant polarizations (2Pr) of the $Bi_{0.9}Eu_{0.1}Fe_{0.975}Zn_{0.025}O_{3-{\delta}}$ (BEFZO) and $Bi_{0.9}Dy_{0.1}Fe_{0.975}Zn_{0.025}O_{3-{\delta}}$ (BDFZO) thin films were about 36 and $26{\mu}C/cm^2$ at the maximum electric fields of 900 and 917 kV/cm, respectively, at 1 kHz. The codoped BEFZO and BDFZO thin films showed improved electrical properties, and leakage current densities of 3.68 and $1.21{\times}10^{-6}A/cm^2$, respectively, which were three orders of magnitude lower than that of the pure BFO film, at 100 kV/cm.

  • High purity Fe thin films were prepared by the ion beam deposition method with $^{56}Fe^{+}$ions on the Si substrate at the room temperature. The Fe thin films were deposited at the ion energy of 50 eV and 100 eV. Microstructural properties were investigated on the atomic scale using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). It was found that the Fe thin film obtained with the energy of 50 eV having an excellent corrosion resistance consists of the amorphous layer of ~15 nm in thickness and the bcc crystalline layer of about 30 nm in grain size, while the thin film obtained with the energy of 100 eV having a poor corrosion resistance consists of little amorphous layer and the defective crystalline layer. Furthermore the crystal structures and arrangements of the oxide layers formed on the Fe thin films were analyzed by processing of the HRTEM images. It was concluded that the corrosion behavior of Fe thin films relates to the surface morphology and the crystalline structure as well as the degree of purification.

  • Perovskite type oxides of the $Sr_xHo_{1-x}FeO_{3-y}$ system with compositions of x=0.00, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, and 1.00 have been prepared at 1200$^{\circ}$C in air. X-ray powder diffraction assigns the compositions with x=0.00 and 0.25 to the orthorhombic crystal system and those with x=0.50, 0.75, and 1.00 to the cubic one. The unit cell volumes of solid solutions increase with x in the system. Nonstoichiometric chemical formulas were determined by Mohr salt titration. The mole ratio of $Fe^{4+}$ ions to total iron ions and the concentration of oxygen ion vacancies increase with x. Mossbauer spectra for the compositions of x= 0.00, 0.25, and 0.50 show six lines indicating the presence of $Fe^{3+}$ ions in the octahedral site. However, the presence of $Fe^{4+}$ ions may also be detected in the spectra for the compositions with x=0.25 and x=0.50. In the compositions with x=0.75 and 1.00, single line patterns show also the mixed valence state of $Fe^{3+}$ and $Fe^{4+}$ ions. The electrical conductivity in the temperature range of -100$^{\circ}$C to 100$^{\circ}$C under atmospheric air pressure increases sharply with x but the activation energy decreases with the mole ratio of $Fe^{4+}$ ion. The conduction mechanism of the perovskite system seems to be hopping of the conduction electrons between the mixed valence iron ions.

  • In this study, we developed FE-tip lithography system that could apply to multi-tip system and did lithography using FE-tip. The software that control FE-tip lithography system, was proposed for acquiring more adaptive data to compensate the effect of fluctuation. We found that the fluctuation effect was reduced. The minimum line width was related to applied voltage and we observed a movement of Z-axis piezo stage to correct the error of this system. When FE current was 5nA, scanning speed was $3{\mu}m/sec$ and applied voltage was 200V, we made a line pattern which had minimum line width of 614 nm. If we reduce applied voltage to several decades and increase scanning speed to $20{\mu}m/sec$, it is possible to set the minimum line width of 100 nm. The proposed system can be easily applied to multi FE-tip lithography system.

  • In the present study, microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of Ti-Fe-Sn ultrafine eutectic alloys have been investigated. Ultrafine eutectic microstructure consisting of a mixture of ${\beta}$-Ti solid solution and TiFe intermetallic compound homogeneously formed in $(Ti_{70.5}Fe_{29.5})_{100-x}Sn_x$ alloys with x = 0, 1 and 3. Addition of Sn is effective to modify the eutectic colony into the spherical shape with decreasing the lamellar spacing and colony size. This results in enhancing the macroscopic plasticity up to 3.1% of the Ti-Fe-Sn ultrafine eutectic alloys.

  • Bilayers of soft NiFe (150 nm-420 nm) on hard Ni (150 nm) were prepared by electrodeposition. The process of magnetization reversal in the NiFe/Ni bilayers was then investigated. The hysteresis loop generated by a magnetization reversal of soft NiFe under a positive saturation state of a hard Ni layer shows a shift along the negative field axis, which is clear evidence for the exchange spring effect in the NiFe/Ni bilayers. The dependence of the coercive field $H_c$ and exchange bias field Hex on the thickness of the NiFe layer was also investigated. As the NiFe thickness increases from 150 nm to 420 nm, both $H_c$ and $H_{ex}$ decrease rapidly from $H_c$= 51.7 Oe and $H_{ex}$ = 12.2 Oe, and saturate to $H_c$ = 5.8 Oe and $H_{ex}$ = 3.5 Oe.

  • This study has been focused on NO conversion for metal-incorporated silicates(Fe-silicate, Mn-silicate, and Fe-Mn-bimetallosilicate) with a similar MFI type. Used metallosilicates were prepared by the rapid crystallization method. Their catalytic performance for the conversion of NO under excess O2(10%) condition with the addition of hydrocarbon of low concentration(1,100ppm n-C8H18) were investigated. As a result, the NO conversion on the Fe-Mn-bimetallosilicate was enhanced compared with on the Fe- or Mn-silicates. Furthermore, the performances for NO concentration on Fe-Mn-bimetallosilicate more increased with an increased in n-C8H18 concentration, a decrease in NO concentration, and an increase in O2 concentration.
