The purpose of this study was to identify the relationships between Healthy Family Support Center (HFSC) program participation and family strengths and program needs based on HFSC participants' individual, family, and community characteristics. A total of 695 HFSC participants who were married and had participated in HFSC programs were recruited through 25 local HFSCs in Seoul. A multiple regression method was conducted for data analysis. The major findings are as follows. Family strengths was related to the variables of age, education, monthly household income, and participation in family counseling and sharing family care programs. In terms of program needs, the variables of marital conflict, difficulty in care, financial distress, family strengths, and family-friendly community were associated with HFSC program needs while participants' socio-demographic characteristics were not related to program needs. This study highlights that HFSC programs have different target populations considering that the level of family strengths was different among the various programs' participants. In addition, program needs are different depending upon the HFSC participants' experiences in the family and community. These findings suggest that it is important to consider participants' family and community characteristics as well as participants' socio-demographic characteristics to provide appropriate programs for all HFSC participants.
Traditional familism and family value is known as the value that most Koreans share with. Strong family solidarity and family-centered perception among Koreans influences other social values and ideology. Under the family value, caring for family members is family responsibility instead of government responsibility. Previous studies argued that the family value played a role to impede the development of family policy in Korea. The aim of this study was to explore a relation between the family value and the needs for care-support family policy. This study investigated how the family value were related to the specific needs for care-support family policy. The data were drawn from the Seoul Families Survey conducted on 2006 by Seoul Women and Family Foundation. The survey data consisted of 2,500 married males and females living in Seoul. The statistical techniques used for analysis were frequencies, means, t-test, ANOVA, crosstabs, multiple regression models, and multinomial logit models. The major findings of this study were as followings. First, while the traditional familism appeared to be held at a certain level, the general attitudes towards cohabitation, divorce, and single-parent family seemed to be less traditional. Second, the familism was found to be partly associated with the needs for the care-support family policy. The respondents who had less traditional value on arriage and child-rearing showed the higher level of needs for daycare center. This finding implied that nontraditional attitudes were related to the needs for an alternative care service such as caring through facilities rather than to the needs for supportive or complementary services. Lastly, the respondents who had higher level of traditional familism showed a higher preference for direct economic service (supportive service) than for other types of service in child care. And the less traditional their attitudes towards marriage and child-rearing, the more likely they are to prefer flexible child care services and programs to other types of child care services. These results implied that the family value was partly influential to family policy. However, it is worthy to note that the family value was related to family policy preference rather than to family policy needs. In other words, traditional family value appeared to influence the types of family policy rather than the level of needs for family policy.
This study aims to provide fundamental data for developing a parent education program for family leisure and analyzing the needs of the parents raising adolescent children on parent education for family leisure. The subjects were 287 parents raising second and third year students at middle schools. They were intentionally sampled from the middle schools at Seoul, Gyeonggi, Daejeon, Donghae, Samcheok and Changwon. This study results can be summarized as follows: First, the degree of aid expectation for parent education for family leisure was high. The degree of aid expectation by demographic variable showed significant differences, according to the educational background of father, religion of parents and job of parents. Second, among family leisure activity types, education needs for education- and experience-oriented activities were highest. The average education needs for family leisure activities, including each family leisure activity type, were 2.95/4, which was relatively high. Third, as for the needs of parent education methods for family leisure of the parents raising adolescent children, the needs for program contents were highest in attending lectures. Weekday mornings and children's non-vacation season were the highest program practicing times. In teaching methods, participating activities showed the highest needs; in session, one or two second sessions were the highest.

The subjects for the study was 134 family members of psychiatric in-patients and out-patients in Taejon and Chungnam. The questionnaire developed by OK-KYUNG YANG to measure the family burden and professional needs was used for this study. The tools used for this study were composed of General characteristics(30 items), family burden(43 items), professional needs(26 items). The data was analyzed by using on SPSSWIN program and included percentage, mean, S.D., t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficient. The results of the analysis were as follows; The mean score of family burden was 134.26, which is higer than the mean score of the instrument. The mean score of professional need, the family caregiver who supporting of mentally ill patients, was .48 which is lower than the mean score of the instrument. Family burden was statistically correlated with professional needs(${\gamma}$=.6139, P<.001). There were statistically differences in family burden for respondent's relation, location of living, most care money giver, substant care money giver. There were statistically significant difference in professional need for family age, marriage status, substant care money giver, information status. The conclusion that can be drawn from this study is that addressing professional needs would contribute to reduce burden of the family caregivers with mentally ill. Therefore, Nursing interventions are needed to reduce family burden.
A group of studies revealed that family members of the seriously ill patient had some needs during the period of patient's hospitalization. Needs of the seriously-ill patient family could be classified into three aspect, i. e. needs on the prognosis of patient, needs on the well-being of family members themselves and needs on hospital environment. Several instrument were developed to measure the needs of the seriously ill patient, but their content tended to overemphasize the aspect of the prognosis of patient. The purpose of this study was to develop a new instrument to measure the needs in the aspect of the seriously ill patient's family themselves in details to increase the cummulative Percentage of the scale. Subjects were 134 family members of the seriously-ill patients, who were bung cared in ICU of seven university hospitals and data were collected from march 16, 1987 to April 11, 1987. The instrument used in this study was made by the author on the basis of results of literature review. Content valitity of the instrument was tested by a professor majoring in nursing and reliability by calculation of Cronbach's α with data of the respondents. Data was analyzed as follows, using SAS, computer system. Factor structures of the seriously ill patients' family needs were elicited by factor analysis. The programme was the Principal Component Factor Analysis Method of factoring employing Varimax Orthogonal Rotation. The influences of the demographic variables on the degree of the seriously-ill patients' family need were analyzed by t-test and P-test. Results were as follows. 1. Needs of the seriously-ill patients' family elicited and their cummulative percentage were: Needs to be supported emotionally, 29.2% Needs to be informed on facilities available, 9.6% Needs to be informed on the patient's prognosis, 7.7%. Needs to be supported spiritually, 5.1%. Needs to be informed on hospital environment, 4.2%. Needs to be helped to spare time, 3.9%. Needs to be informed on their role, 3.5%. Needs to be present near patient, 3.3%. 2. Educational background was found to influence on some factors. College-graduate group had higher Bevel of needs to be . informed on facilities available to be informed on the patient's prognosis, needs to be supported spiritually, needs to be helped to spare time, needs to be informed on their role than high school graduate group. 3. Among the parents, sons and daughters and the relative groups, the parents of the seriously ill patient had highest level of needs to be present near patient. Suggestions for further studies were as follows. 1. As the instruments used in the previous studies had high cummulative percentages in the aspect of the prognosis of patient and that in this study in the aspect of the prognosis of patient and that in this study in the aspect of the seriously ill patient's family themselves, development of a new instrument which combined the items of both of them is needed. 2. A study to clarify the influence of type and number of admission on need to be supported emotionally is needed.
In Korean society, a housewife and mother often plays the role of family resource manager. In 2008, the newly appointed Korean government proposed a new direction in social policies, including family policy, that is, "active social welfare". According to "active social welfare", family policy focuses on a preventive policy and a family needs-oriented policy. In other words, newly established family policies should reflect parents' needs in their family resource management. In this economic downturn, family policies should be established to satisfy parents' needs to overcome their own family's economic crisis. This study focuses on policy recipients' real voices and their needs: they need the government's help supporting their efforts to overcome the economic crises within their families.

The purpose of this study was to examine what characterized the family of origin among couples who had been married just for a few years, what types of conflicts they suffered, how they tackled their conjugal conflicts, what sorts of counseling services they needed in times of conjugal conflicts and how the characteristics of their families of origin and marital conflicts affected their needs for counseling. The findings of the study were as follows: First, regarding family rules and regulations, the biggest characteristic among the families of origin of the married couples investigated was that they were most aware of rules for living. The husbands were more conscious of them than the wives. Concerning their marital conflicts in each area, their conflicts were most triggered by their own personal characteristics, followed by communal life, a third person and their own conjugal relations. Second, as for their needs for counseling, the married couples were highly willing to ask for counseling in times of conflicting with each other. Third, concerning their perception of the rules of the family of origin, the husbands were more cognizant of then Fourth, regarding connections between needs for counseling and family rules, the group whose family of origin placed stronger emphasis on rules for living felt the higher needs for counseling. It's attempted in this study to provide information about counseling for married couples, on which few domestic studies have ever focused so far, and the effort to take a micro approach toward the counseling needs of married couples made it clear that their counseling needs might be different according to their family background variables and their own marital conflicts.
This qualitative case study focused on the workers' flexibility needs. We selected eight full-time workers from one 2009 family friendly certified firm for observation and in-depth interview. The workers are categorized into three groups; male employees with housewives, double income family workers depending on extended family, and double income family workers depending on paid babysitter. The spouse's work status and informal extended familial support to child care were crucial factors to influence their work family life styles and flexibility needs. The flex time is the most desirable everyday needs for the dual working child caring parents depending on the paid help. And the female workers' concerned about the stigma effect of the institutionalized flexibility use of the inferior labors.
