  • 6 sigma is a management innovation strategy which improves most of all managerial processes including transactional and project based operations such as marketing, purchasing, accounting, and construction. Even though 6 sigma is trying to solve problems from the customer's viewpoint in the scientific manner, project leader feels some difficulties in implementation because of several reasons. Especially the difficulties are prevalent in construction site. This paper investigates the cause of the difficulties through questionnaires, analyzes the investigation results, and verifies the critical success factors of 6 sigma implementation. Factor analysis has been usually employed in reducing quantity of data and summarizing information chaos. In this study, several variables from questionnaires are grouped into just only four factors by the process of factor analysis. The critical success factors are extracted as project management system, implementation mechanism, site condition, and project ownership. Some ideas for each individual success factor are suggested, which are expected to be useful in successful implementation of 6 Sigma in construction site.

The current study examines the effect of different factors on the use of the blackboard application on mobile phones. The study selects four important factors after factor analysis, such as facilitating factor, performance factor, satisfaction factor, and difficulties factor. The data was collected through a structured questionnaire from 45 students as a sample in the college of business administration at Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz University. The study uses a logistic regression model to examine the empirical relationship between LMS adoption and different factors associated with blackboard adoption. The results show that 71 percent of the respondents are between the age of 18-20 years, and 100 percent of students have experience in using blackboard. The empirical results show that the satisfaction factor is positive and significant at the 10 percent level of significance and the difficulties factor is also positive and significant at the 1 percent level of significance. The results conclude that the students are satisfied with using the blackboard on mobile, nevertheless, the difficulties factor which is positive and significant shows that students are facing some difficulties in using the blackboard on their mobile.

  • Unlike daily hassles or minor stressors, immigration is an intense life event that may cause excessive stress. In particular, immigrant parents find themselves in a more stressful situation in that they experience stresses caused by immigration and stresses caused by parenting at the same time. The purpose of this study is to develop and validate an Immigrant Parental Stress Inventory (IPSI), that objectively and comprehensively assesses the stress experienced by immigrant parents within the Korean context. Based on the Immigrant Parental Stress Inventory developed within the American context, preliminary items were refined through a literature review and the discussions of experts and immigrant parents and were empirically validated with a sample of 203 immigrant parents residing in Korea. Through exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, six main factors were identified (Factor1 Difficulties in communication, Factor2 Financial difficulties, Factor3 Difficulties in social adjustment, Factor4 Social discrimination, Factor5 Lack of social resources, Factor6 Difficulties in parenting). The IPSI was shown to be a psychometrically sound instrument that is capable of measuring immigrant parental stress within the Korean context. Social service professionals and researchers studying or working with immigrant families could use the IPSI to examine immigrant parental stress.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify: (a) the latent profiles of the difficulties associated with the schoolto-work transition (decline in confidence, mood swings, family disagreements, the burdens of familial expectations, economic hardship, and a lack of support) made by university students, (b) predictors (gender, age, grade, university location, co-residence with parents on weekdays, monthly household income, and parental educational attainment) of these profiles, and (c) how the profiles were associated with mental wellbeing. The participants of this study were 311 senior or above students (164 males and 147 females) under the age of 29, who were unmarried and preparing for employment. The findings of this study were as follows. First, the latent profile analysis revealed three distinct profiles: the "low overall difficulties" type (25.4%), the "moderate overall difficulties" type (49.9%), and the "high overall difficulties" type (24.7%). Second, the factors that predicted each profile included gender, age, co-residence with parents on weekdays, monthly household income, and parental educational attainment. Third, the "low overall difficulties" type demonstrated the highest level of mental well-being (emotional, social, and psychological well-being). This study was significant for examining the latent profiles of the difficulties associated with the school-to-work transition made by university students preparing for employment, while also exploring their mental well-being. Based on the results of this study, practical implications, limitations, and suggestions for further study were discussed.

This research classifies and applies the potential improvement made by the construction practitioners. In order to apply influential factors for success on the construction project, the research identifies the relationship between the factors and performance management practices. In addition, in order to predict the results reflecting the project characteristics which are un-improvable by the construction managers in the initial stage of construction, the effect of project characteristics to the identified management practices have been drawn by performance area. Finally, in order to improve the predicted performance, this research provides a framework in setting valid best practices according to the performance areas through a statistical analysis between the best practices and project characteristics through the industry survey.
