This study deals with optimum geometry design of laterally loaded piles in a Winkler's medium through the Fully Stressed Design (FSD) method. A numerical algorithm distributing the mass by means of the FSD method and updating the moment by finite elements is implemented. The FSD method is implemented here using a simple procedure to optimise the beam length using an approach based on the calculus of variations. For this aim two conditions are imposed, one transversality condition at the bottom end, and a one sided constraint for moment and mass distribution in the lower part of the beam. With this approach we derive a simple condition to optimise the beam length. Some examples referred to different fields are reported. In particular, the case of laterally loaded piles in Geotechnics is faced.

Optimum shape and length of laterally loaded piles can be obtained with different optimization techniques. In particular, the Fully Stress Design method (FSD) is an optimality condition that allows to obtain the optimum shape of the pile, while the optimum length can be obtained through a transversality condition at the pile lower end. Using this technique, the structure is analysed by finite elements and shaped through the FSD method by contemporarily checking that the transversality condition is satisfied. In this paper it is noted that laterally loaded piles with optimum shape and length have some peculiar characteristics, depending on the type of cross-section, that allow to design them with simple calculations without using finite element analysis. Some examples illustrating the proposed simplified design method of laterally loaded piles with optimum shape and length are introduced.
Purpose: It has been suggested that approximately 40% of women between 40 and 64 years of age cease their sexual activity. The aim of this study was to establish the basic data for FSD(female sexual dysfunction) and FSD-related factors in regional urban and rural areas of Korea. Method: Three hundred twenty five women over 20 years of age and resident in regional urban and rural areas were analyzed by a visit survey with an organized questionnaire. The female sexual function index(FSFI) for measurement of sexual dysfunction was used. The significance between the degree of sexual dysfunction and characteristics of the participants was analyzed by a t-test and ANOVA test. The relationship between the degree of sexual dysfunction and related factors was analyzed by Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: All analyzing tools including the FSFI had a high validity for measuring. The FSFI in Korean women was $19.97{\pm}4.87$ and ranged from 2 to 29. Old age, menopause, medication, no contraception usage and longer marital duration were significantly related with a lower FSFI score. Pearson's correlation coefficient revealed the significance in degrees of sexual distress (r=-.469, p=.000), sexual attitude(r=.305, p=.000) and a stressful life event(r= -.141, p=.038) with the sexual function index score. Conclusion: Women with sexual dysfunction should be evaluated for these sexual function-related factors in the history taking, and this data can be a basis for study for sexual dysfunction.
With the recent development of diagnosis using radiation and increasing demand of the medical treatment, we need to minimize radiation exposure dose. So, This is the method which reduce patient dose by measuring surface dose of radiographic change factor and by comparing theoretical and actual dose, when we take an X-ray which is generally used. By changing the factor of kV, mAs, FSD, whose range is 60 to 120 kV, 20 to 100 mAs, 80 to 180 cm, we compared theoretical surface dose with actual surface dose calculated by the simple calculation program, Bit system, and NDD-M method As a result, when kV and mAs were higher, theoretical surface dose and actual surface dose were more increased. but the higher FSD was, the more decreased surface dose was. According to this, the error were measured about 0.1 to 0.2 mGy in low dose part and about 0.7 to 1.5 mGy in high dose part. Therefore, this shows that theoretical surface dose calculation method is more correct in low dose part than in high dose part. In conclusion, we will have to make constant efforts which can reduce patient and radiographer's exposure dose, studying methods which can predict patient's radiation exposure dose more exactly.
This research aims to find an effective mixing method for controlled low strength material (CLSM) using diverse recycled industrial byproducts. This study is a fundamental research to develop and commercialize a resource-recycling CLMS that can greatly contribute to cost reduction and environmental stress relief. In the past, few studies have been performed on CLSM in Korea. This research is expected to provide fundamental data not only for development and commercialization of the resource-recycling CLSM satisfying required material performances but also serve as a ground breaking study on utilization of recycled material in construction industry and ultimately leading to advanced resource-recycling practices at national level. From the comprehensive analysis of minimum unit quantity for maximum strength and material segregation prevention, it was found that the optimal mixing condition for mixing FSD, RSID and SD material to filler-aggregate ratio (f/a) was approximately 50.
Under the non-operating exposure condition in the hot area, the T-50 cockpit temperature is expected over the requirement according to T-50 environmental criteria. So it is necessary to protect the cockpit from the high temperature condition during the non-operating exposure because the high temperature of the cockpit may result in the cockpit equipment malfunction. In this study, the transparency coating is selected as the method for protecting the cockpit from the high temperature exposure and analyzed the effect on the cockpit heat load attenuation. Some kinds of cockpit coating were reviewed and selected and the analysis was performed about the effect before and after coating application under 1% hot day condition based on the T-50 FSD hot soaking test data. The result of analysis show transparency coating is so effective to attenuate the heat load of T-50 cockpit.

The present study analyzed free vibration of the three-layered micro annular/circular plate which its core and face sheets are made of saturated porous materials and FG-CNTRCs, respectively. The structure is subjected to magneto-electric fields and magneto-electro-mechanical pre loads. Mechanical properties of the porous core and also FG-CNTRC face sheets are varied through the thickness direction. Using dynamic Hamilton's principle, the motion equations based on MCS and FSD theories are derived and solved via GDQ as an efficient numerical method. Effect of different parameters such as pores distributions, porosity coefficient, pores compressibility, CNTs distribution, elastic foundation, multi-physical pre loads, small scale parameter and aspect ratio of the plate are investigated. The findings of this study can be useful for designing smart structures such as sensor and actuator.

This paper introduces a method of constructing expert systems in an integrated environment for automatic software design. This integrated environment may be applicable from top-level system architecture design, data flow diagram design down to flow chart and coding. The system is integrated with three CASE tools, FSD (Functional Structure Diagram), DFD (Data Flow Diagram) and structured chart PAD (Problem Analysis Diagram), and respective expert systems with automatic design capability by reusing past design. The construction way of these expert systems is based on systematic acquisition of design knowledge stemmed from a systematic design work process of well-matured developers. The design knowledge is automatically acquired from respective documents and stored in the respective knowledge bases. By reusing it, a similar software system may be designed automatically. In order to develop these expert systems in a short period, these design knowledge is expressed by the unified frame structure, functions of th expert system units are partitioned mono-functions and then standardized components. As a result, the design cost of an expert system can be reduced to standard work procedures. Another feature of this paper is to introduce the integrated environment for automatic software design. This system features an essentially zero start-up cost for automatic design resulting in substantial saving of design man-hours in the resulting in substantial saving of design man-hours in the design life cycle, and the expected increase in software productivity after enough design experiences are accumulated.
This work proposes an optimality criteria applicable to the optimum design of plane frames subject to multiple behavioral constraints on member stresses and lateral displacements of nodes and also to side constraints on design variables. The method makes use of a first order approximation for both deflection and stress constraints instead of the zero order approximation based on the concept of FSD (fully stressed design). A redesign algorithm is derived from a mathematically rigorous method which uses the Newton-Raphson method to solve the system of nonlinear constraint equations and reduces the design space whenever minimum size restrictions become active. When applied to worked examples it proved more accurate and efficient, and it is often found that optimum designs are not fully stressed designs. This fact suggests that this rigorous method is worth what it claims for complicated computing and thus had better replace the crude stress ratio algorithm adopted by the majority of optimality criteria approaches. This is particularly true as long as we enjoy ever-increasing computing power at negligible costs.
Intake ratio from river constitutes about 31% (8/26) that beings to "water stress country" as "Medium ~ High" with China, India, Italy, South Africa, etc. Therefore, the present study on a dam that is the most effective and direct for securing water resources has been performed. First of all, climate change scenarios were investigated and analyzed. RCP 4.5 and 8.5 with 12.5 km grid resolution presented in the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) 5th Assessment Report (AR5) were applied to study watershed using SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) and HEC-ResSim models that carried out co-operation. Based on the results of dam simulation, the reduction effects of floods and droughts were quantitatively presented. The procedures of dam projects of the USA, Japan and Korea were investigated. As a result, there are no estimating quantitative criteria, calculating methods or formulas. In the present study, therefore, indexes for selecting suitable dam site through literature investigation and analyzing dam watersheds were determined, Expert questionnaire for various indexes were performed. Based on the above mentioned investigation and expert questionnaire, a methodology assigning weight using AHP method were proposed. The function of suitable dam (FSDS) site was calibrated and verified for four medium-sized watersheds. Finally, automated model for suitable dam site was developed using FSDS and 'Model builder' of GIS tool.
