Application and Analysis of Ocean Remote-Sensing Reflectance Quality Assurance Algorithm for GOCI-II (천리안해양위성 2호(GOCI-II) 원격반사도 품질 검증 시스템 적용 및 결과)

  • An atmospheric correction algorithm based on the radiative transfer model is required to obtain remote-sensing reflectance (Rrs) from the Geostationary Ocean Color Imager-II (GOCI-II) observed at the top-of-atmosphere. This Rrs derived from the atmospheric correction is utilized to estimate various marine environmental parameters such as chlorophyll-a concentration, total suspended materials concentration, and absorption of dissolved organic matter. Therefore, an atmospheric correction is a fundamental algorithm as it significantly impacts the reliability of all other color products. However, in clear waters, for example, atmospheric path radiance exceeds more than ten times higher than the water-leaving radiance in the blue wavelengths. This implies atmospheric correction is a highly error-sensitive process with a 1% error in estimating atmospheric radiance in the atmospheric correction process can cause more than 10% errors. Therefore, the quality assessment of Rrs after the atmospheric correction is essential for ensuring reliable ocean environment analysis using ocean color satellite data. In this study, a Quality Assurance (QA) algorithm based on in-situ Rrs data, which has been archived into a database using Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS) Bio-optical Archive and Storage System (SeaBASS), was applied and modified to consider the different spectral characteristics of GOCI-II. This method is officially employed in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)'s ocean color satellite data processing system. It provides quality analysis scores for Rrs ranging from 0 to 1 and classifies the water types into 23 categories. When the QA algorithm is applied to the initial phase of GOCI-II data with less calibration, it shows the highest frequency at a relatively low score of 0.625. However, when the algorithm is applied to the improved GOCI-II atmospheric correction results with updated calibrations, it shows the highest frequency at a higher score of 0.875 compared to the previous results. The water types analysis using the QA algorithm indicated that parts of the East Sea, South Sea, and the Northwest Pacific Ocean are primarily characterized as relatively clear case-I waters, while the coastal areas of the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea are mainly classified as highly turbid case-II waters. We expect that the QA algorithm will support GOCI-II users in terms of not only statistically identifying Rrs resulted with significant errors but also more reliable calibration with quality assured data. The algorithm will be included in the level-2 flag data provided with GOCI-II atmospheric correction.

Reduction of Organic Sludge using High Efficiency Aeration System(HEAS) (고효율 포기 시스템을 이용한 유기성 슬러지의 감량화)

  • In Korea, ocean dumping has been widely used as the ultimate disposal of sewage sludge. However, ocean dumping of food wasted and sewage sludge from 2013 is expected to legally restricted as London convention on marine pollution prevention has been effective in 2009. This research aims to examine the effect of HEAS in treating the environmental pollution load caused by organic high concentrated sludge. Thus, onsite laboratory scale treatability test using HEAS was adopted to treat the high concentrated organic sludge from sewage and industrial wastewater treatment plant. The research results showed that the HEAS is useful to reduce the environmental pollution caused by organic high concentrated sludge. Specific results are as follows. 1. The organic removal after the sludge digestion using the high efficiency aeration system was 55.2-85.8%. Although these results were lower than those from the general sewage treatment, the high efficiency aeration system could be evaluated as efficient, considering the object sludge contained the industrial waster water. 2. The average removal efficiency was about 25.2%. 3. It was revealed that sludge digestion by the high efficiency aeration system could effectively contribute to the sludge treatment cost. Especially, the high efficiency aeration system is more applicable to the onsite treatment of small sewage and wastewater treatment plant that contains high solid content sludge, industrial wastewater sludge, high fixed solid sludge.

Design of an 1.8V 6-bit 1GS/s 60mW CMOS A/D Converter Using Folding-Interpolation Technique (Folding-Interpolation 기법을 이용한 1.8V 6-bit 1GS/s 60mW 0.27$mm^2$ CMOS A/D 변환기의 설계)

  • In this paper, CMOS analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with a 6-bit 1GSPS at 1.8V is described. The architecture of the proposed ADC is based on a folding type ADC using resistive interpolation technique for low power consumption. To reduce the power consumption, a folder reduction technique to decrease the number of folding blocks (NFB) by half of the conventional ones is proposed. further, a novel layout technique is introduced for compact area. With the clock speed of 1GSPS, the ADC achieves an effective resolution bandwidth (ERBW) of 500MHz, while consuming only 60mW of power. The measured INL and DNL were within $\pm$0.5 LSB, $\pm$0.7 LSB, respectively. The measured SNR was 34.1dB, when the Fin=100MHz at Fs=300MHz. The active chip occupies an area of 0.27$mm^2$ in 0.18um CMOS technology.

Effects of Cerium Oxide Nano Particles(CNP) Containing on The Mechanical of Pit and Fissure Sealant (세륨옥사이드나노입자(CNP)첨가가 치면열구전색재 기계적 성질에 미치는 영향)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the mechanical properties of pit and fissure sealant containing cerium oxide nano particles(CNP). Used to mix with pit and fissure sealant (ConciseTM, USA). CNP was added into liquid (0- 4.0 wt%) of pit and fissure sealant. The specimens for the vickers hardness (VHN; 10 × 2 mm), Three-point flexure (FS; 2 × 2 × 25 mm) with flexure modulus (FM) were obtained from cements at 1, 7, and 14 days after storing in (37±1)℃ distilled water. All mechanical strength tests were conducted using machine (Instron 3344) with a cross-head speed of 1 mm/min. Data were statistically analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Duncan posthoc test(p<0.05). Mechanical properties of conventional pit and fissure sealant could be enhanced by addition of CNP. Three-point flexure and modulus of pit and fissure sealant containing CNP were showed a slightly higher value not significantly with the group(p>0.05). The vickers hardness values were increase significantly with incubation time(p<0.05). Results indicated that CNP can be used considered as potential reinforcing agent for increasing mechanical properties for conventional pit and fissure sealant. Therefore, it was suggest that the additional effects of CNP and research on a wide range of substances.

A Study on the Development and the Verification Experiment of ECDA Equipment (외면부식직접평가 장비 개발 및 실증 시험에 관한 연구)

  • When the coatings of buried steel pipelines are damaged, corrosion could be occurred on the surface of the damaged areas. Moreover the pinhole occurred by corrosion of pipelines may cause accidents due to gas leakage. To prevent these accidents, foreign countries including UK and USA have carried out coating defect detection on the buried gas pipelines by using a DCVG or a ACVG and have conducted direct assessment of pipelines through digging the ground, and if necessary, have repaired the pipelines. That is called ECDA i.e External Corrosion Direct Assessment which is regulated by NACE standards(SP 0502) and etc. In Korea, the ECDA provisions were included in KGS FS551 in 2014 when the regulations of Safety Validation in Detail for the medium-pressure piping were introduced. We have developed the equipment which can be used to detect external corrosion of the buried gas pipelines. We have also constructed pipeline test bed for empirical test of the developed equipment. In addition, we have carried out the verification experiments of the developed equipment on the test bed to demonstrate the performance of the equipment. The experiments were conducted by comparison tests of the developed equipment and other equipments which have been introduced and used in Korea. As the result, we have found the developed equipment is easier to use and has far superior performance compared to other equipment being used in Korea.

Fluctuation of Tidal Front and Expansion of Cold Water Region in the Southwestern Sea of Korea (한국 남서해역에서 조석전선의 변동과 저수온역 확장기작)

  • The appearance and variation of cold water area and its expansion mechanism of tidal front in the south western coast of Korea in summer were studied on the basis of oceanographic data(1966-1995), satellite images from NOAA and SeaWiFs and numerical model. Cold water appearance in southwestern field of Jindo was due to the vertical mixing by strong tidal current. Tidal front where horizontal gradient of water temperature was more than $0.3^{\circ}C$/km parallels to contours of H/$U^3$ parameter 2.0~2.5 and the outer boundary of cold water region corresponds with contours of the parameter 2.5~3.0 in the southwestern sea of Korea during the period between neap and spring tides. The position replacement of tidal front formed in the study ares varies in a range of 25~75km and cold water region extends about 90km. These suggest that the magnitude of variation of frontal position and cold water area was proportionate to the tidal current during lunar tidal cycle. Moreover, it was estimated that the southwestward expansion of cold water region was derived from the southwestward tide-induced residual currents with speed more than 10cm/s.

M/T Herbei Sprit Oil Spill Area Monitoring Using Multiple Satellite Data (복합 위성을 이용한 허베이스피리트 유류오염해역 모니터링)

  • Estimations of oil slick area after M/T Herbei Sprit accident in December 2007 were analyzed using ENVITSAT ASAR(Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar) microwave and KOMPSAT-2 of high resolution data. Monthly end short-term variations of chlorophyll a concentration before end after M/T Herbei Sprit oil spill accident were also analyzed using SeaWiFS/MODIS ocean color data. The oil slick areas estimated by KOMPSAT-2 and ASAR satellites were 59,456 $m^2$ and 1,168 $km^2$, respectively. The winds before end after oil spill accident were prevailed the northerly and northwesterly winds, and the strength of wind in this accident was stronger than 10 m/sec. In Taean and Anmeon-do, monthly mean chlorophyll a concentrations(6.3 mg/$m^3$ and 3.7 mg/$m^3$) in January 2008 alter the oil spill were higher than those(2.9 mg/$m^3$ and 2.5 mg/$m^3$) in December 2007. Short-term variations of chlorophyll a in these areas were decreased alter one or two weeks of oil spill.

Effects of Slow-Release Nitrogen Fertilizers, Latex coated urea and Meister 10, on Direct Seeded Rice in Flood Soil (벼 담수직파재배시 완효성질소비료의 시용 효과)

  • This study was conducted to find out the effect of slow-release nitrogen fertilizer, such as latex coated urea(LCU) and Meister10(MS10) on direct seeded rice in flooded soil(FS). Junghwabyeo, and early maturity rice cultivar grown on the plots which were treated with None-nitrogen, urea, LCU and MS10 plot. Growth characteristic, yield and yield components were investigated. Nitrogen uptake-efficiency and physico-chemical properties of soil before-after experiment were analyzed. Plant height and number of tillers $m^{-2}$ in LCU and MS10 plot at early grow stages were higher than those of Urea plot. MS10 and LCU plot showed similar tendency on the plant height but MS10 plot was higher than LCU plot on the number of tillers $m^{-2}$. The number of seedling $m^{-2}$ were no significant differences among None-N, urea, and MS10 plot. Heading date and leaf color were no significant differences among None-N, urea, and MS10 plot. Culm length in LCU and Ms10 plot were longer compared with urea plot, but panicle length were similar among with Urea, LCU and MS10 plot. Number of panicles $m^{-2}$ was highest in MS10 plot and it was similar between LCU and Urea plot. Yield were greater in order of Ms10 > LCU > Urea plot. Nitrogen uptake and nitrogen efficiency were greater in order of MS10 > LCU > urea plot. After the experiment, total content of nitrogen in soil was not changed at all treatments, but pH, P and K of soil were lower than that of before experiment at all treatments.

  • Application of sludge wastes into the field may help soil fertility with physical, chemical and biological properties. Efficient use of sludge waste, however, requires an individual assessment of the waste products. A lot of experiment into the organic waste-treated soils has been done for decade. However, studies have not been carried out on the assessment of agricultural soil by Basidiomycota. This study was assessed the influence of sludge application on soil healthy in agricultural upland soils. The organic wastes selected for long-term application experiment in this study were municipal sewage sludge (MSS), industrial sewage sludge (ISS), leather processing sludge (LS), alcohol fermentation processing sludge (FS), and pig manure compost (PMC). To develop the soil healthy assesment method, soil samples were diluted by 20X with distilled water. After shaking at 200rpm for 30 minutes, the shaked sample was mixed on PDA(Potato Dextrose Agar). And sterilized at $121^{\circ}C$ for 20 minutes. Coriolus hirsutus (MKACC 50560) was inoculated on petri-dish including PDA mixed sample. After the media was incubated at $25^{\circ}C$ for five days, the mycelial growth of C. hirsutus was measured. When the mycelial growth on sample media was compared with growth on media contained PDA only, well grown media contained sample soil was assesed as healthy soil. The results suggest that the simple method by Coriolus hirsutus is a handy way to assess the healthy of waste sludge-applied upland soils.

  • 석탄으로부터 합성석유를 생산하는 상용기술을 도입하여 건설하고 이와 더불어 원천기술 개발을 위한 국산화 기술 개발을 병행하여 향후 고유가 시대를 대비한 국가 에너지 안보 확립과 국내 기술 개발의 가속화를 추구해야 할 필요성이 대두되고 있다. 본 타당성 조사는 3종류의 석탄(호주 Wyong탄, 인도네시아 NTC탄, 인도네시아 KBB탄)으로부터 가스화에 의하여 합성석유스를 생산하는 공정에 대한 타당성 조사(Feasibility Study, FS)를 Class 5(하한 -50~-20%, 상한 30~100%)의 정확도로 수행하는 것을 내용으로 하고 있다. 플랜트의 규모는 합성석유 기준으로 20,000배럴/일이다. 플랜트의 건설을 위해서 광양제철소 슬래그처리장 내 12만평 부지에 조성 중인 포스코 SNG 생산공장 부지의 일부를 사용하는 것을 기준으로 하였다. 일반적으로 석탄의 종류에 따라서 가스화기의 종류 및 성능이 결정된다. 본 타당성 조사 연구에서 선정된 3종류의 석탄의 조성, 발열량, 회분 함량 등의 특성을 고려하여 각각의 석탄에 적합한 현존하는 상용급 가스화기를 선정하였다. 해당 석탄이 가스화기 종류에 따라 적절한 전처리 과정(건조, 분쇄, 슬러리화)을 거친 후 가스화기에 공급되는 것을 가정하여 석탄의 원소분석 조성, 발열량, 회분함량, 회분조성, 회 용융점 등의 변수에 따라서 각각 해당 가스화기에서 가스화되었을 때의 생성되는 합성가스의 조건을 시뮬레이션을 통하여 얻었다. 가스화기 시뮬레이션 결과를 토대로 합성석유 및 합성천연가스 생산을 위한 공정의 물질수지식 및 에너지수지식이 계산되었으며 이로부터 각 공정에서 발생되는 부생성물과 폐기물에 대한 양이 결정되고 이를 처리하는 방안 등도 제시되었다. 실증시설은 20,000배럴/일 규모의 CTL 및 전기 병산 시설이 적합하다. 더 큰 규모 공장은 투자비가 너무 커서 유가 또는 석탄가 변동에 따라 사업의 수익성이 크게 변하여 위험도가 큰 단점이 있기 때문이다. CTL 공장에 전기 병산이 추천되는 이유는 산소생산공장(APU), 압축 등 석탄전환공장에는 자체적인 전기수요가 막대하여 따로 스팀터빈용 발전소를 운영하므로 이를 효율적으로 대체하고자 하기 때문이다. 즉, 석탄가스화에 의해 기름을 최대한 만들고 미반응가스는 가스터빈 및 스팀터빈의 복합발전에 의해 고효율로 전기를 생산하면 최소의 비용으로 최대한 전기를 생산하여 자체소비 전력을 충당하고 남는 전기는 판매하여 수익률을 높일 수 있다.
