  • This paper describes the design and implementation of the OFDM Modem using FPGA. The proposed OFDM method is based on IEEE 802.11a high-speed wireless LAN standard. The proposed and designed Pipeline FFT processor adopt the Radix-$2^2$SDF scheme. This method has a simple architecture and highly increases the calculation speed. And also it decreases the required number of registers. Therefore the proposed OFDM Modem reduces hardware size and improves the calculation speed. The OFDM Modem is implemented using $FLEX^{TM}$ FPGA.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new hardware architecture for calculating digital holograms at high speed, and verified it with field programmable gate array (FPGA). First, we rearranged memory scheduling and algorithm of computer generated hologram (CGH), and then introduced pipeline technique into CGH process. Finally we proposed a high-performance CGH processor. The hardware was implemented for the target of FPGA, which calculates a unit region of holograms, and it was verified using a hardware environment of NI Inc. and a FPGA of Xilinx Inc. It can generate a hologram of $16{\times}16$ size, and it takes about 4 sec for generating a hologram of a $1,024{\times}1,024$ size, using 6K point sources.

  • This paper rotates to tile FPGA that is reffered to as the UTOSPI. The design goal of the FPGA is to convert the UTOPIA-3 bus interface to the SPI-3 bus interface, so that the SAR chips on the ATM interface board can be interfaced to the packet processor through this FPGA. We Propose a new architecture that has two Dual Port RAMs and flow control signals. To buffer data, the UTOSPI has a Dual port RAM in the receive direction and the same size of that in the transmit direction. This design has been implemented, compiled, and tested using a Xilinx Virtex-I XCV-300E FPGA.

  • 스테레오 비전 시스템에서 전통적인 매칭 알고리즘으로 SAD(Sum of Absolute Differences), SSD(Sum of Squared Differences), NCC(Normalized Cross Correlation) 등 다양한 알고리즘이 존재한다. 그러나 하드웨어로 실시간 처리를 위한 시스템을 구현하기 위해서는 리소스가 한정 되어있다는 제약 때문에 많은 연구에서 SAD 혹은 RT(Rank Transform), CT(Census Transform)를 많이 사용하게 된다. FPGA 내부에는 BRAM(Block RAM)과 MAC(multiply-accumulator)인 DSP슬라이스가 이미 존재한다. 본 논문에서는 BRAM과 DSP로직을 활용해서 전통적인 매칭 알고리즘 중에서 연산기 사용이 가장 많은 NCC를 FPGA로 실시간 처리 가능한 하드웨어 구조를 제안한다.

  • This paper presents a programmable System-On-a-chip for various embedded applications that need Neural Network computations. The system is fully implemented into Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) based prototyping platform. The SoC consists of an embedded processor core and a reconfigurable hardware accelerator for neural computations. The performance of the SoC is evaluated using real image processing applications, such as optical character recognition (OCR) system.

  • This paper presents 3D graphics lighting processor based on vector processing using pipeline chaining. The lighting process of 3D graphics rendering contains many arithmetic operations and its complexity is very high. For high throughput, proposed processor uses pipelined functional units. To implement fully pipelined architecture, we have to use many functional units. Hence, the number of functional units is restricted. However, with the restricted number of pipelined functional units, the utilization of the units is reduced and a resource reservation problem is caused. To resolve these problems, the proposed architecture uses vector processing using pipeline chaining. Due to its pipeline chaining based architecture, it can perform 4.09M vertices per 1 second with 100MHz frequency. The proposed 3D graphics lighting processor is compatible with OpenGL ES API and the design is implemented and verified on FPGA.

  • As the use of mobile multimedia devices is increasing in the recent year, the needs for high-performance multimedia processors are increasing. In this regard, we propose a SIMD (Single Instruction Multiple Data) based parallel processor that supports high-performance multimedia applications with low energy consumption. The proposed parallel processor consists of 16 processing elements(PEs) and operates on a 3-stage pipelining. Experimental results for the JPEG encoding algorithm indicate that the proposed parallel processor outperforms conventional parallel processors in terms of performance and energy efficiency. In addition, the proposed parallel processor architecture was developed and verified with verilog HDL and a FPGA prototype system.

  • Regular expression pattern matching is widely used in applications such as computer virus vaccine, NIDS and DNA sequencing analysis. Hardware-based pattern matching is used when high-performance processing is required due to time constraints. ReCPU, SMPU, and REMP, which are processor-based regular expression matching processors, have been proposed to solve the problem of the hardware-based method that requires resynthesis whenever a pattern is updated. However, these processor-based regular expression matching processors inefficiently handle repetitive operations of regular expressions. In this paper, we propose a new instruction set to improve the inefficient repetitive operations of ReCPU and SMPU. We propose REMPi, a regular expression matching processor that enables efficient iterative operations based on the REMP instruction set. REMPi improves the inefficient method of processing a particularly short sub-pattern as a repeat operation OR, and enables processing with a single instruction. In addition, by using a down counter and a counter stack, nested iterative operations are also efficiently processed. REMPi was described with Verilog and synthesized on Intel Stratix IV FPGA.

  • Characteristically, 3D graphic algorithms have to perform complex calculations on massive amount of stream data. The vertex and pixel shaders have enabled efficient execution of graphic algorithms by hardware, and these graphic processors may seem to have achieved the aim of "hardwarization of software shaders." However, the hardware shaders have hitherto been evolving within the limits of Z-buffer based algorithms. We predict that the ultimate model for future graphic processors will be an algorithm-independent integrated shader which combines the functions of both vertex and pixel shaders. We design the register file model that supports 3-dimensional computer graphic on the programmable unified shader processor. we have verified the accurate calculated value using FPGA Virtex-4(xcvlx200) made by Xilinx for operating binary files made by the implementation progress based on synthesis results.
