Materials and Systems for Noise Control : Categorization and Challenges

  • In this presentation, noise control materials will be discussed from several points-of-view. First, materials will be categorized in terms of their intended function: i.e., as dissipative materials, as barriers, and as media intended to modify some aspect of the sound field. Within each category, example implementations will be described as will modeling procedures. In the context of barrier materials, recent developments in the area of metamaterials will be described briefly, and problems with some recently suggested approaches will be highlighted. Acoustical cloaking will be described as a method of modifying a sound field in such a way that a sensitive area is shielded from noise exposure; the practical difficulties of this approach will also be described. Finally, within each category of material and approach, a series of suggested research challenges will be described.

원자력발전소 증기 발생기의 자동검사 및 수리를 위한 비젼시스템 설계 (Vision System Design for Automatic Test and Repair of Steam Generator Holes in Nuclear Power Plants)

  • In this paper we propose a new approach to the development of the automatic vision system to examine and repair the steam generator tubes at remote distance. In nuclear power plants, workers are reluctant of works in steam generator because of the high radiation environment and limited working space. It is strongly recommended that the examination and maintenance works be done by an automatic system for the protection of the operator from the radiation exposure. Digital signal processors are used in implementing real time recognition and examination of steam generator tubes in the proposed vision system. Performance of proposed digital vision system is illustrated by simulation and experiment for similar steam generator model.

  • A computationally efficient and accurate Monte Carlo (MC) simulator of electron beam lithography process, which is named SCNU-EBL, has been developed for semiconductor nanometer pattern design and fabrication. The simulator is composed of a MC simulation model of electron trajectory into solid targets, an Gaussian-beam exposure simulation model, and a development simulation model of photoresist using a string model. Especially for the trajectories of incident electrons into the solid targets, the inner-shell electron scattering of an target atom and its discrete energy loss with an incident electron is efficiently modeled for multi-layer resists and heterogeneous multi-layer targets. The simulator was newly applied to the development profile simulation of ZEP520 positive photoresist for NGL(Next-Generation Lithography). The simulation of ZEP520 for electron-beam nanolithography gave a reasonable agreement with the SEM experiments of ZEP520 photoresist.

The Emergence of Behavioral Testing of Fishes to Measure Toxicological Effects

  • Historically, research in toxicology has utilized non-human mammalian species, particularly rats and mice, to study in vivo the effects of toxic exposure on physiology and behavior. However, ethical considerations and the overwhelming increase in the number of chemicals to be screened has led to a shift away from in vivo work. The decline in in vivo experimentation has been accompanied by an increase in alternative methods for detecting and predicting detrimental effects: in vitro experimentation and in silico modeling. Yet, these new methodologies can not replace the need for in vivo work on animal physiology and behavior. The development of new, non-mammalian model systems shows great promise in restoring our ability to use behavioral endpoints in toxicological testing. Of these systems, the zebrafish, Danio rerio, is the model organism for which we are accumulating enough knowledge in vivo, in vitro, and in silico to enable us to develop a comprehensive, high-throughput toxicology screening system.

석탑구조물의 구조적 손상을 고려한 위험도 분석 (Risk Analysis Considering Structural Damages of Stone Pagoda Structure)

  • In case of stone pagoda structures, the various construction types appear, and various damages occur due to exposure to the outdoors for a long time. Such damages can be classified into non-structural damages and structural damages. However, studies for the effects of structural damages on stone pagoda structures are insufficient. Accordingly, this study intends to perform structural modeling and structural analysis according to structural damages of stone pagoda structure, and to perform risk analysis through the fragility curve. So, we expects that this study gives a great contribution to the preservation and maintenance of stone pagoda structures under the various structural damages.

Panspermia in a Milky Way-like Galaxy

  • We study the process of panspermia in Milky Way-like galaxies by modeling the probability of successful travel of organic compounds between stars harboring potentially habitable planets. To this end, we apply the modified habitability recipe of Gobat & Hong (2016) to a model galaxy from the MUGS suite of zoom-in cosmological simulations. We find that, unlike habitability, which only occupies narrow dynamic range over the entire galaxy, the panspermia probability can vary be orders of magnitude between the inner (R, b = 1~4 kpc) and outer disk. However, only a small fraction of star particles have very large values of panspermia probability and, consequently, the fraction of star particles where the panspermia process is more effective than prebiotic evolution is much lower than from naïve expectations based on the ratio between panspermia probability and natural habitability. The lunar surface progressively darkens and reddens as a result of sputtering from solar wind particles and bombardment of micrometeoroids. The extent of exposure to these space weathering agents is frequently calculated as the location in a diagram of reflectance at 750 nm

3차원 프린팅 기술을 이용한 차폐체 제작 및 유용성 평가 (Usefulness Evaluation and Fabrication of the Radiation Shield Using 3D Printing Technology)

  • 최근 의료분야에서 X선은 질병의 진단 및 치료영역에서 필수적으로 요구되며, 영상의학 기술의 발전과 더불어 X선의 이용은 지속적으로 증가하는 추세지만, X선은 방사선 피폭의 단점을 가지고 있다. 방사선피폭을 방어하기 위해 임상에서는 납 방호도구를 사용하지만 납은 중금속으로 분류되어 납중독 등 인체에 유해한 반응을 일으킬 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 FDM(Fused Deposition Modeling)방식의 3차원 프린터의 재료를 이용하여 제작한 차폐체의 유용성을 알아보고자 한다. 필라멘트의 선감약계수를 확인하기 위해 PLA, XT-CF20, Wood, Glow, Brass를 이용해 팬텀을 제작 하고, CT scan을 하였다. 그리고 100 × 100 × 2 mm 크기의 차폐 시트를 모델링하고, 진단용 X선발생장치와 조사선량계를 이용하여 선량 및 차폐율을 측정하였으며, 납 방호도구와의 차폐율을 비교하였다. 실험결과 Brass의 CT number가 가장 높게 측정되어 Brass를 이용하여 차폐시트를 제작하였으며, 진단용 X선발생장치로 확인한 결과 100 kV, 40 mAs 조건으로 X선 조사 시 6 mm 두께의 차폐시트에서 차폐율이 90 % 이상으로 측정되어 apron 0.25 mmPb보다 차폐율이 높은 것을 확인하였다. 본 연구의 결과 3차원 프린팅 기술로 제작한 차폐체가 진단용 X선 영역에서 높은 차폐율을 보이는 것을 확인하였으며, 납 방호도구와의 비교를 통하여 납을 대체하여 방사선 방호도구로서의 가능성을 알 수 있었다.

농업용 포크리프트의 구동력 및 운동저항 예측을 위한 모델링 기법 개발 (Development of Modeling Technique for Prediction of Driving Force and Kinetic Resistance of Agricultural Forklift)

  • 본 연구는 고령화와 젊은층의 이탈로 인한 농경사회에서 고령 및 여성 인력의 애로사항을 해결해주기 위해 시작되었다. 기존에 나와있는 농업용 고소리프트의 경우 전문 자격증 및 조작의 어려움과 평지가 아닌 불균형적인 도로 혹은 작업환경에 노출된 위험성과 여성들도 쉽고 효율적으로 생산적 농업을 할 수 있도록 하기 위하여 선행연구를 바탕으로 진행하였다. 먼저 농업용 포크리프트의 목적인 물체를 이용한 견인 성능 예측 모델을 통하여 시뮬레이션을 진행하고, 견인 성능 모델 수식을 이용하여 실험이 진행되고 있는 경남 김해시의 토양(점착력 34.125kPa, 내부마찰각 35.294deg, 외부마찰각 13.620deg, 부착력 5.750kPa, 평균 원추지수 0-15cm cl, 1001.8kPa)에 맞추었다. 시뮬레이션용 포크리프트의 경우 농업용 전동식 포크리프트의 구동력 및 운동저항 예측 모델링을 수식화하고 이를 바탕으로 모터 제어 드라이브는 AC모터 전용 드라이브인 1232E 모델을 적용, 프로그래밍을 통해 두 개의 드라이버를 각각 마스터와 슬레이브로 구분지어 구동할 수 있도록 하였고 메인 PCB에는 모터구동, 유압구동, 각종 출력을 제어할 수 있도록 시뮬레이션용 모델을 제작하였다. 제작된 시뮬레이션용 모델은 현재 지속적인 시뮬레이션과 수정 및 보완을 진행하고 있으며, 추후 본 연구를 바탕으로 보다 안전하고 효율성이 뛰어난 농업용 전동식 포크리프트의 개발을 위하여 연구를 지속할 예정이다.

공간통계모형을 이용한 도로 소음과 도시 구성 요소의 관계 연구 (The Spatial Statistical Relationships between Road-traffic Noise and Urban Components Including Population, Building, Road-traffic and Land-use)

  • To understand the relationship between road-traffic noise and urban components such as population, building, road-traffic and land-use, the city of Cheongju that already has road-traffic noise maps of daytime and nighttime was selected for this study. The whole area of the city is divided into square cells of a uniform size and for each cell, the urban components are estimated. A spatial representative noise level for each cell is determined by averaging out population-weighted facade noise levels for noise exposure population within the cell during nighttime. The relationship between the representative noise level and the urban components is statistically modeled at the cell level. Specially, we introduce a spatial auto regressive model and a spatial error model that turns out to explain above 85 % of the noise level. These findings and modeling methods can be used as a preliminary tool for environmental planning and urban design in modern cities in consideration of noise exposure.

The Effect of Occupational Noise Exposure on Serum Cortisol Concentration of Night-shift Industrial Workers: A Field Study

  • Background: In both developed and developing countries, noise is regarded as the most common occupational hazard in various industries. The present study aimed to examine the effect of sound pressure level (SPL) on serum cortisol concentration in three different times during the night shift. Methods: This case-control study was conducted among 75 workers of an industrial and mining firm in 2017. The participants were assigned to one of the three groups (one control and two case groups), with an equal number of workers (25 participants) in each group. Following the ISO 9612 standard, dosimetry was adopted to evaluate equivalent SPL using a TES-1345 dosimeter. The influence of SPL on serum cortisol concentration was measured during the night shift. The serum cortisol concentration was measured using a radioimmunoassay (RIA) test in the laboratory. Repeated measure analysis of variance and linear mixed models were used with ${\alpha}=0.05$. Results: The results indicated a downward trend in the serum cortisol concentration of the three groups during the night shift. Both SPL and exposure time significantly affected cortisol concentration (p < 0.0001, p < 0.0001). Conversely, age and body mass index had no significant influence on cortisol concentration (p = 0.360, p = 0.62). Conclusion: Based on the obtained results, increasing SPL will lead to enhancement of serum cortisol concentration. Given that cortisol concentration varies while workers are exposed to different SPLs, this hormone can be used as a biomarker to study the effect of noise-induced stress.
