  • In engineering hydrology, an estimation of precipitation loss is one of the most important issues for successful modeling to forecast flooding or evaluate water resources for both surface and subsurface flows in a watershed. An accurate estimation of precipitation loss is required for successful implementation of rainfall-runoff models. Precipitation loss or hydrological abstraction may be defined as the portion of the precipitation that does not contribute to the direct runoff. It may consist of several loss elements or abstractions of precipitation such as infiltration, depression storage, evaporation or evapotranspiration, and interception. A composite loss rate model that combines four loss rates over time is derived as a lumped form of a continuous time function for a storm event. The composite loss rate model developed is an exponential model similar to Horton's infiltration model, but its parameters have different meanings. In this model, the initial loss rate is related to antecedent precipitation amounts prior to a storm event, and the decay factor of the loss rate is a composite decay of four losses.

환기가 불량한 실내공간에서, 담배연기에 의한 CO, $CO_2$, TVOC 및 에어로졸의 변화 (Changes of CO, $CO_2$, TVOC and Aerosol of Tobacco Smoke in a Poorly-Ventilated Indoor)

  • Number of aerosol, CO, $CO_2$ and TVOC after one-, two-, three-cigarettes smoking were monitored with time every 10 minute for 180 minutes in the seminar room (volume $51.1m^3$) when poorly-ventilated. IAQ monitor (IAQRAE, model PGM-5210) and PortCount (TSI, model 8020) were used for monitoring. Aerosol was decreased with exponential decay equation and it was estimated that number of aerosol would be long suspended (one cigarette 75/cc. two cigarettes 66/cc, three cigarettes 141/cc by 8hrs after smoking). While CO was also decreased with exponential or linear decay equation and correlated with number of aerosol strongly, TVOC and $CO_2$ were increased with linear equation in accordance with time lag. Most of TVOC and $CO_2$ were above standard levels of Korean Indoor Air Quality (Ministry of Environment) without regarding number of cigarettes. When naturally ventilated, all of CO, $CO_2$ and TVOC concentrations were dramatically decreased below standard levels of Korean Indoor Air Quality.

Algorithm for Computational Age Dating of Nuclear Material for Nuclear Forensic Purposes

  • The parent and daughter nuclides in a radioactive decay chain arrive at secular equilibrium once they have a large half-life difference. The characteristics of this equilibrium state can be used to estimate the production time of nuclear materials. In this study, a mathematical model and algorithm that can be applied to radio-chronometry using the radioactive equilibrium relationship were investigated, reviewed, and implemented. A Bateman equation that can analyze the decay of radioactive materials over time was used for the mathematical model. To obtain a differential-based solution of the Bateman equation, an algebraic numerical solution approach and two different matrix exponential functions (Moral and Levy) were implemented. The obtained result was compared with those of commonly used algorithms, such as the Chebyshev rational approximation method and WISE Uranium. The experimental analysis confirmed the similarity of the results. However, the Moral method led to an increasing calculation uncertainty once there was a branching decay, so this aspect must be improved. The time period corresponding to the production of nuclear materials or nuclear activity can be estimated using the proposed algorithm when uranium or its daughter nuclides are included in the target materials for nuclear forensics.

대칭형 다공성 매질의 확산주도 영역에 관한 1차 물질이동 방정식 (First-Order Mass Transfer in a Diffusion-Dominated (Immobile) Zone of an Axisymmetric Pore: Semi-Analytic Solution and Its Limitations)

  • 본 연구에서는 기존 MIM Zone model과 새로이 유도한 모델과 비교를 통해 몇가지 결론을 도출하였다. MIM model 이 적용되면 immobile 영역에서의 초기농도는 기공의 형태에 의해 달라지는 보정계수에 의해 실제농도보다 저평가되었으며 이는 오직 확산이 기공의 가장 깊은 부분까지 시행된 이후에 유효함을 확인하였다. 물질이동계수, $\alpha$는 기공의 깊이에 따라 반비례하며, 유동 구역의 유속에는 종속되어지지 않는다. 기존의 MIM model 은 확산주도영역의 농도가 급속하게 감소하는 현상을 보여주는데 새로이 유도된 모델의 경우도 충분한 시간이 경과한후 비슷한 현상을 보였으며 이는 기존의 여러 실험에서 관찰된 power-law BTC 의 상반되는 결과를 보여준다.

신축 주택의 톨루엔 발생량 모델을 이용한 건강위해성 평가 (Risk Assessment by Toluene Source Emission Model in Indoor Environments of New Houses)

  • Indoor air quality can be affected by indoor sources, ventilation, decay and outdoor levels. Understanding the effectiveness of indoor air quality control depends on knowledge of the characteristics of air pollutants in indoor air, especially their quantities and persistence, and the relevance of indoor sources to these factors. Toluene within new and established houses has been determined and factors significant to its presence have been identified. A total of 30 selected houses in Seoul, Asan and Daegu areas that were constructed within 4 years and over 4 years of construction were measured the concentration of toluene from July to September in 2004. Toluene emission decay of double-exponential model exhibited good fit of $Y=276.37e^{-1.21x}(R^{2}=0.34,\;P=0.06)$ for 2 years and then $Y=51.54e^{-0.11x}(R^{2}=0.40,\;P=0.0)$ from 23 years in new houses. In case of living in new houses, noncarcinogenic health effects of exposure to toluene was 1.38 of hazard quotient (HQ) comparing to toluene reference dose of 0.13 mg/kg-day.

웨이블릿 영역에서 훈련 없는 은닉 마코프 트리 모델을 이용한 영상 보간 (Image Interpolation Using Hidden Markov Tree Model Without Training in Wavelet Domain)

  • 웨이블릿 변환은 영상을 분석하고 처리하는데 유용한 도구로써 영상 압축, 영상 잡음 제거 등의 분야에서 우수한 성능을 보여주었다. 웨이블릿 계수들은 은닉 마코프 트리(Hidden Markov Tree: HMT) 모델에 의해 효과적으로 모델링 될 수 있다. 그러나 영상 보간에서 은닉 마코프 트리 모델을 적용하기 위해서는 훈련 과정이 필요하며 훈련 과정에서 획득된 파라미터들이 입력 영상과 잘 맞지 않는 단점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 웨이블릿 영역에서 영상 보간을 위해 은닉 마코프 트리의 구조를 사용하되, 그 파라미터들은 훈련 과정 없이 부대역간의 통계적 특성을 이용하여 직접 추정한다. 제안 방법에서 웨이블릿 계수는 가우스 혼합 모델(Gauss Mixture Model: GMM)로 모델링 된다. 가우스 혼합 모델의 상태 천이 확률은 부대역간의 웨이블릿 계수의 통계적 천이 특성을 이용하여 결정하며, 각 상태의 분산은 웨이블릿 계수의 지수적 감소(exponential decay) 특성에 의해, 추정된다. 모의실험에서 제안 방법은 전통적인 bicubic 방법이나 훈련 과정을 필요로 하는 은닉 마코프 모델을 사용한 방법보다 여러 테스트 영상들에 대해서 개선된 성능을 보여주었다.

개구부로 연결된 3중 커플룸의 음향특성 (Acoustic Properties of Three-room Coupled System by Connected Two Apertures)

  • A coupled room system consists of adjacent rooms and apertures where the sound energy is exchanged between the two rooms. Acoustically, a coupled room system shows a non-exponential decay profile. Most of the related researches have been to analyze the acoustic properties of two-room coupled system so far whereas three-room coupled system were seldom studied. In this regard, this paper aims to analyse the distribution of sound pressure level, sound decay curve of three-room coupled system and sound energy flow between them by using the acoustic diffusion model and to further verify them through experiments. Firstly, the sound pressure level distribution and mean sound pressure level in the steady-state condition are analyzed at various frequencies and source locations. Good agreements are observed in both experiments and analysis results. Secondly, two double slope effect quantifiers of sound attenuation, LDT/EDT and LDT/T10 are compared at various frequencies and for different source locations. The result indicates that LDT/T10, less affected by the early reflection patterns than LDT/EDT, is more suitable to the analysis and experiments of a multi-slope sound decay curve. Lastly, the sound energy flow in each room is analyzed based on the acoustic diffusion model. After the early decay stage, the sound energy is observed to flow from the room with a long reverberation time to the room with a short one.

하수재이용수의 유리잔류염소 수체감소 특성 연구 (Characteristics of Residual Free Chlorine Decay in Reclaimed Water)

  • 하수재이용수는 부족한 수자원 문제를 해결할 수 있는 대표적인 대안으로 주목받고 있다. 본 연구에서는 하수재이용수의 공급시 유리잔류염소의 수체감소 특성을 온도별(5, 15, $25^{\circ}C$), 초기 주입농도별(1, 2, 4, 6 mg/L)로 살펴보았고 그 결과를 이용하여 최적 염소주입량을 산정하는 방법에 대하여 연구하였다. 하수재이용수는 정수와 비교하여 염소주입시 반응속도가 초기에 매우 빠르게 나타나 기존의 general first-order decay model ($C_t=C_o(e^{-k_bt})$)을 사용하기에 부적합하여 exponential firstorder decay model ($C_t=a+b(e^{-k_bt})$)을 적용한 결과 유리잔류염소의 감소를 더욱 정확하게 예측할 수 있었다($r^2$=0.872~0.988). 수체감소계수를 산출한 결과 초기주입량 1 mg/L, $25^{\circ}C$의 조건에서 653 $day^{-1}$로 가장 크게 나타났고, $5^{\circ}C$, 초기주입량 6 mg/L의 조건에서 3.42 $day^{-1}$로 가장 낮았다. 수체감소계수는 온도가 증가함에 따라 수체감소계수는 증가하는 경향을 나타내었고, 초기 주입농도가 증가함에 따라 수체감소계수는 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. 적정 초기 염소요구량을 산정하기 위해서 전체 반응기간을 0~30분, 30~5,040분으로 구분한 후, 30~5,040분의 실험결과를 사용한 예측식을 사용함으로써 더욱 정확한 염소주입량 산정을 할 수 있었다. 또한, 온도별로 최적 염소주입량을 산정한 결과 염소주입 후 4시간이 경과한 시점에서 유리잔류염소 0.2 mg/L를 유지하기 위해서는 온도(x)별 초기 염소요구량(y)의 관계를 y = 1.409 + 0.450x와 같이 얻을 수 있었다.

  • Decomposition rates of glucose, starch, spinach leaves and litters in forests are calculated by equation dC dt=-kC(Co-1nC), dC- dt=$-kC^2$, and Olson's negative exponential decay model.dC dt = - kC =-kC(Co - InC) showed a very close fit to decomposition of the organic matters in cultural media by purified microorganisms and dC dt=$-kC^2$ to decomposition of the litters in forests.
