  • There have been many radiographic studies on age estimation that evaluate reduction in size of dental pulp cavity with secondary dentin formation. The Paewinsky method reported high accuracy in estimating ages by measuring the width of the pulp cavity in panoramic radiographs. The aim of this study was to evaluate the application of the Paewinsky method to digital periapical radiographs. This study was conducted on 103 cases that reported to the Section of Human Identification of the National Forensic Service. The age was calculated by applying the Paewinsky method that measures the root and pulp canal width at three points in a tooth. The estimation results were compared with those calculated by the Johanson method. When the Paewinsky models were applied to digital periapical radiographs, the errors were significantly greater as compared to the original study. The errors of the maxillary second premolar and mandibular lateral incisor were greater than those of the maxillary central incisor, lateral incisor, mandibular canine, and first premolar. Furthermore, errors of the age estimation models in level C were greater than those in levels A and B. This study could be a reference for the application of the Paewinsky method to digital periapical radiographs.

  • Radar rainfall estimates have been widely used in calculating rainfall amount approximately and predicting flood risks. The radar rainfall estimates have a number of error sources such as beam blockage and ground clutter hinder their applications to hydrological flood forecasting. Moreover, it has been reported in paper that those errors are inter-correlated spatially and temporally. Therefore, in the current study, we tested influence about spatio-temporal errors in radar rainfall estimates. Spatio-temporal errors were simulated through a stochastic simulation model, called Multivariate Autoregressive (MAR). For runoff simulation, the Nam River basin in South Korea was used with the distributed rainfall-runoff model, Vflo. The results indicated that spatio-temporal dependent errors caused much higher variations in peak discharge than spatial dependent errors. To further investigate the effect of the magnitude of time correlation among radar errors, different magnitudes of temporal correlations were employed during the rainfall-runoff simulation. The results indicated that strong correlation caused a higher variation in peak discharge. This concluded that the effects on reducing temporal and spatial correlation must be taken in addition to correcting the biases in radar rainfall estimates. • In this paper, an improved timing synchronization method for OFDM system is proposed. In multipath fading channels, timing offset estimation algorithm based on simple correlation metric can cause inter-symbol interference (ISI). The proposed algorithm promises accurate timing offset estimation, which can be achieved by simple windowing. The estimation errors in several multipath channels are evaluated in computer simulations.

  • The static state estimation are divided into two groups; estimation and detection & identification. This paper centers on detection and identification algorithm. Especially, the identification of line errors is focused on and is performed by the extended W.L.S. algorithm with line swithching states. Here, line switching states mean the discrete values of line admittance which are influenced by unexpected line switching. The numerical results are obtained from the assumption that the noise vector is independent zero mean Gaussian random variables.

  • This paper considers a fault detection and diagnosis using estimation method in uncertain systems. In the state estimation method, we use the robust H$\infty$ FIR filtering algorithm. A novel aspect of the fault detection technique described here is that it explicitly accounts for the effects of simplified models and errors due to the linearization of nonlinear systems at an operating point.

  • The objective of this study is to identify the applicability of land cover image classified by remotely sensed data ; Landsat TM merged by SPOT for hydrological applications such as SCS runoff estimation . By comparing the calssified land cover image with the statistical data, it was proved that hey are agreed well with little errors. As a simple application , SCS runoff estimation was tested by varying rainfall intensity and AMC with Soilmap classfied by hydrologica soil map.

  • Parametric estimation of truncated point in a truncated exponential distribution will be considered. The MLE, bias reducing estimator and the ordinary jackknife estimator of the truncated parameter will be compared by mean square errors. And the MME and MLE of mean parameter and estimations of the right tail probability in the distribution will be compared by their MSE's.

  • In this paper, we consider the simultaneous estimation problem for the normal means. We set up the model structure using the several different distributions of the errors for observing their effects of model perturbation for the error terms in obtaining the empirical Bayes and hierarchical Bayes estimators. We compare the performance of those estimators under model perturbation based on a simulation study.

  • The moment closure method is an approximation method to compute the moments for stochastic models of chemical reaction systems. In this paper, we develop an analytic estimation of errors generated from the approximation of an infinite system of differential equations into a finite system truncated by the moment closure method. As an example, we apply the result to an essential bimolecular reaction system, the dimerization model.

  • This paper provides a new estimation equation based on the concept of a minimum distance between the empirical and theoretical distribution functions under the most widely used progressive Type-II censoring scheme. For illustrative purposes, simulated and real datasets from a three-parameter Weibull distribution are analyzed. For comparison, the most popular estimation methods, the maximum likelihood and maximum product of spacings estimation methods, are developed together. In the analysis of simulated datasets, the excellence of the provided estimation method is demonstrated through the degree of the estimation failure of the likelihood-based method, and its validity is demonstrated through the mean squared errors and biases of the estimators obtained from the provided estimation equation. In the analysis of the real dataset, two types of goodness-of-fit tests are performed on whether the observed dataset has the three-parameter Weibull distribution under the progressive Type-II censoring scheme, through which the performance of the new estimation equation provided is examined.
