The maximum zero error probability (MZEP) algorithm outperforms MSE (mean squared error)-based algorithms in impulsive noise environment. The magnitude controlled input (MCI) which is inherent in that algorithm is known to plays the role in keeping the algorithm undisturbed from impulsive noise. In this paper, a new approach to normalize the step size of the MZEP with average power of the MCI is proposed. In the simulation under impulsive noise with the impulse incident rate of 0.03, the performance enhancement in steady state MSE of the proposed algorithm, compared to the MZEP, is shown to be by about 2 dB.

We have proposed a soft-decision decoding method for block codes. With careful examinations of the first hard-decision decoded results, The candidate codewords are efficiently searched for. Thus, we can reduce the decoding complexity (the number of hard-decision decodings) and lower the block error probability. Computer simulation results are presented for the (23,12) Golay code. They show that the decoding complexity is considerably reduced and the block error probability is close to that of the maximum likelihood decoder.

The Nakagami m-distribution is used to model different fading environments and shown to fit experimental resutls more accurately than other distributions. In this paper, the probability of symbol error for M-ary QAM with square signal constellation in frequency-nonselective shlow Nakagami fading and additive white Gaussian noise is derived. When Nakagami fading index is integer, the derived resutls leads to the closed-form of a finite series.

In a various range of applications including hydrology, the type-I extreme value distribution has been extensively used as a probabilistic model for analyzing extreme events. In this paper, we introduce methods for estimating the scale parameter of the type-I extreme value distribution. A simulation study is performed to compare the estimators in terms of mean-squared error and bias, and the obtained results are provided.

In recent years there has been increased interest in a class of multiple-access techniques known as code division multiple-access(CDMA). As the trend for ever increasing data transmission rate and high error performance continues while conserving bandwidth, the needs arise for good highrate R=b/v convolu- tional codes such as punctured codes. In this paper, the packet error propability has been analyzed in code division multiple-access packet radio system which utilize punctured convolutional code and hard-decision Viterbi decoding.
In this paper, a new distributed space-time coded (DS-TCed) non-orthogonal decode-and-forward (NDF) protocol with source antenna switching (SAS) is proposed, where two antennas associated with each radio frequency chain can be alternatively used in the first and second phases. Several DSTC schemes for the NDF with SAS (NDF-SAS) protocol are proposed and their average pairwise error probability for the error-free source-relay (SR) channel is also derived. The simulation results show that the NDF-SAS protocol achieves larger diversity order than the NDF protocol under the error-free and erroneous SR channels.
In this paper, we investigate the error probability performance of noncoherently detected orthogonal modulation combined with Alamouti space-time block coding. We find that there are two types of pair-wise error probabilities that characterize the performance. We employ methods that allow a direct evaluation of exact, closed-form expressions for these error probabilities. Theoretical as well as numerical results show that noncoherent orthogonal modulation combined with space-time block coding (STBC) achieves full spatial diversity. We derive an expression for approximate average bit error probability for-ary orthogonal signaling that allows one to show the tradeoff between increased rate and performance degradation.

When memory devices are exposed to space environments, they suffer various effects such as SEU(Single Event Upset). Memory systems for space applications are generally equipped with error detection and correction(EDAC) logics against SEUs. In this paper, several error detection and correction codes - RS(10,8) code, (7,4) Hamming code and (16,8) code - are analyzed and compared with each other. Each code is implemented using VHDL and its performances(encoding/decoding speed, required memory size) are compared. Also the failure probability equation of each EDAC code is derived, and the probability value is analyzed for various occurrence rates of SEUs which the STSAT-3 possibly suffers. Finally, the EDAC algorithm for STSAT-3 is determined based on the comparison results.

This paper provides closed form expressions for the evaluation of the end-to-end outage probability, symbol error rate, bit error rate and average capacity of the partial-based Decode-and-Forward (DF) relay selection scheme with an arbitrary number of relays. In a comparison with the performance of systems that exploit Amplify-and-Forward (AF), it can be seen that the performance of our proposed protocol converges to that of partial-based AF relay selection in high SNR regime. We also perform Monte-Carlo simulations to validate the analysis.

This paper derives the symbol error rate (SER) for quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) with L-fold selection combining (SC) space diversity in Rayleigh fading channel. No analysis has been reported yet for theoretical SER performance of QAM with SC space diversity in Rayleigh fading channels. The formula is obtained by averaging the symbol error probability of M-ary QAM in an additive white Gaussian noise channel over the distribution of the maximum signal-to-noise ratio among all of the diversity channels. By giving the order of diversity, L, and the number of signal points, M, we have been able to obtain the SER performance of QAM with general SC space diversity. Analytical results show that the probability of error decreases with the order of diversity. We can also see that the incremental diversity gain per additional diversity decreases as the number of branches becomes larger.
