Student Engagement of STEM-specialized Institutions : A Comparative Study Employing Propensity Score Matching(PSM) (경향점수매칭을 통한 과학기술특성화대학 재학생의 학습참여(student engagement) 분석 : 일반 종합대학 이공계열 및 인문사회계열 학생과 비교)

  • This study investigated student engagement of STEM-specialized higher education institutions in comparison with students from humanities & social science and STEM majors, respectively. By doing so, the study aimed to find the effects of the characteristics of STEM disciplines and organizational culture of STEM-specialized small-sized institutions on student engagement. The students majoring STEM disciplines, regardless of the organizational types, showed lower reflective-integrative learning experiences compared to students on humanities & social science disciplines. In contrast, students of STEM-specialized institutions reported significantly higher levels of peer relationship and student-faculty interaction in comparison with humanities & social science students and STEM students of general higher education institutions. Finally, the study suggests policy implications for STEM education.

  • In this paper we researched the homepage automation system and its implementation methods that made it possible for even the non-majors or the beginners to make a specific useful homepage with the simple manipulation of a mouse and the minimal input of necessary information. This system is the customer request-based homepage automation system that makes it possible with ease not only to manufacture homepage and install it on user specified server but also to maintain homepage without direct handling of homepage source.

  • This paper diagnose subjects and measures the learning ability of students based on the goal of developing an assessment tool for education productivity based on multi-aspect evaluation conducted by ICEE at Honam University. Furthermore, develop an assessment tool for education productivity that provides a motive to bring detailed improvements in teaching methods through the diagnosis. In addition, a method for compensating the issues and improving the quality of subject is suggested to develop learning ability of students through applying the assessment tool. An integrated operated system of CQI is desired to be built along with quality improvement of education through measuring academic quality by studying the methods for enhancing academic and learning ability achievement from analysis of the curriculum provided in the "ABEEK program". Through this study the current state of education productivity is presented through analyzing the difference between students who participated in the "ABEEK program" and who did not participate, and operating a comparison between the student's comprehension on their majors and liberal arts by the multi-aspect evaluation that has been conducted for 2 years.

  • In the last few years, interest in computer science education has increased significantly. The curriculum is being revised to introduce computer science. Although interest has focused on coding as the main subject, in fact the computer science includes much more than coding. It engages people in being creative with technology as well as understanding the fundamental principles of computer science. Therefore, it is important to consider the curriculum to provide a foundation by teaching and learning computer science. The curriculum is required the development of courses to teach computer science for non-majors in general education. To think like a computer scientist on the knowledge of computer science is computational thinking. In order to maximize the effectiveness of teaching and learning for computational thinking, various teaching methods and supplementary learning materials, and activities should be developed and provided.

  • 본 연구는 기존에 제안되었던 혼잡 제어 기법, 그리고 여기에서 고려하지 못한 다종 센서 네트워크 환경을 고려한 혼잡 제어 기법에 대한 연구를 포함한다. 기존의 방법은 대규모 센서 네트워크 또는 특정한 타입의 데이터를 가정하고 혼잡 제어 기법을 제안하였다. 그러나 최근의 센서 네트워크 응용은 다양한 센서의 개발로 그 범위가 확장되는 추세에 있어 다수의 이종 센서 노드가 네트워크 구성 인자로 참여하는 환경이므로 이에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 이에 우리는 기존의 혼잡 제어 메커니즘은 분석하고 이종 센서가 참여하는 센서 네트워크를 고려하는 혼잡 제어 기법을 연구한다.

  • In recent years, researches of security threats reported that various types of social engineering attack were frequently observed. In this paper, we propose secure keypad scheme for mobile devices. In our scheme, every edge of keypad is linked each other, and it looks like a sphere. With this keypad, users input their password using pre-selected grid pointer. Because of circulation of the keypad layout, even though the attacker snatch the user password typing motion through the human eyes or motion capture devices, attacker do not estimate the original password. Moreover, without the information of grid pointer position, the attacker do not acquire original password. Therefore, our scheme is resistant to password guessing attack.

  • In the wireless sensor network environment, clustering scheme has a problem that a large amount of energy is unnecessarily consumed because of frequently occurred entire re-clustering process. Some of the studies were attempted to improve the network performance by getting rid of the entire network setup process. However, removing the setup process is not worthy. Because entire network setup relieves the burden of some sensor nodes. The primary aim of our scheme is to cut down the energy consumption through minimizing entire setup processes which occurred unnecessarily. Thus, we suggest a re-clustering scheme that considers event detection, transmitting energy, and the load on the nodes. According to the result of performance analysis, our scheme reduces energy consumption of nodes, prolongs the network lifetime, and shows higher data collection rate and higher data accuracy than the existing schemes.

A Study of Applying Jigsaw Model to Applied Mathematics (과제분담 협동학습을 응용수학에 적용한 사례 연구)

  • It is important to encourage students who are having difficulty learning mathematics and majors due to lack of basic knowledge, and encourage them to improve their academic performance by focusing on and participating in class. The purpose of this study is to confirm the applicability of the Jigsaw Method by analyzing the change of the learner's academic achievement and the attitude of the learner's mathematics by applying the Jigsaw Model. During the four weeks, the Jigsaw Model was applied to 30 experimental students and the instructor-led lectures were given to 36 students in the comparative group. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that the average of the experimental groups applying the Jigsaw model was higher than the average of the comparative group in the lecture class. The results of the survey showed that the Jigsaw Model increased class concentration and participation, helped self - directed learning, and had high learning satisfaction.

  • 본 논문은 스테레오 시각에서 3차원 정보를 얻기 위해 bilateral filter를 이용한 그래프 컷 기반의 다해상도 스테레오 영상 정합 방법을 제안하고자 한다. 제안한 방법은 변위도에서 물체의 경계를 명확히 구분하기 위해 bilateral filter를 이용하여 그래프의 각 노드들을 연결하는 경로의 가중치를 결정하고 정합 비용을 통합한다. 정합 과정에서 계산복잡도를 줄이기 위해 계층적 다해상도 구조를 적용하여 영상 피라미드를 만들고, 정합의 정확성을 향상시키기 위해 정합 영역에 변위 평활성과 같은 제약 조건을 적용하여 변위를 전파하는 방법을 사용한다. 실험을 통해 제안한 방법이 변위 탐색 시간을 감소시킬 뿐만 아니라 기존의 그래프 컷의 단점을 보완할 수 있음을 확인하고자 한다.
