  • In order to enhance basic competencies for freshmen at engineering college, whose learning ability is gradually declining, a new course was developed to review basic mathematics and physics through a process of collecting opinions from fellow professors. Tests in six fields of math and physics with the same problems showed the correct answer rate rose from 24.8% at the beginning of the semester to 59.0% at the end of the semester after operating the course developed. According to the survey, the students' self-evaluated confidence on the basic competencies in 16 fields of math and physics showed a significant increase. Students with high confidence in basic competencies also received high actual grades. General high school graduates' confidence point in basic competencies improved from 54.7 at the beginning to 75.3 points at the end of the semester, while specialized high school graduates' enhanced from 38.3 to 64.0 which is higher than that of general high school graduates at the beginning of the semester.

  • This study examines the job changes of the youth university graduates in Korea. The pattern of job changes get observed in the Unemployment Insurance Database. This data enables us tracing all job changes in the labor market. The average number of job youth graduates have for four years from graduate is 1.68. The more jobs youth have, the longer total tenure youth have. Youth are much more likely to change careers to different occupation or industry. They move usually into upper occupations but small establishments. They enhance the level of wage through job changes. The science and engineering graduates are more likely to change jobs than the humanity and social science graduates. The higher the level of wage they get is, the lower the probability of their job change is. Those who have good scores in Scholastic Aptitude Test are less likely to change job.

  • This study analyzed the effect of career preparation behavior of female college graduates on their job satisfaction. The results of this study are as follows: First, the relationship between job satisfaction and career preparation behavior and a regression analysis of job satisfaction were all examined. This study used the original data from the Korea Employment Information Service for '2012 College Graduates' Occupation Route Survey'. The subjects of this study were 1,569 women in the science and engineering fields (649 engineering graduates, and 920 science graduates). The data was analyzed by frequency analysis, independent sample t tests, correlation analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis using SPSS WIN 19.0. As a result, women with 4 years of college have higher job stability and job satisfaction than college students, but the reasons for major selection, university type, college location, and department. The results of this study are as follows. First, the effect of the variables on career satisfaction and job satisfaction was not statistically significant. This suggests that the type of college does not have a significant effect on job satisfaction if the university systematically prepares people for a career and the university suits a person's aptitude.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the employment possibility of the humanities college graduates to science and engineering field occupations, and to identify the occupational characteristics related to employability perceived by workers. To do this, basic statistical analysis, correlation analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis were conducted using the data surveyed on 2,600 workers in the science and engineering field in the 'Research on Korean Occupational Index for Career and Employment Service(2017)'. The main results are as follows. First, the employment possibility of the humanities college graduates to science and engineering field was low, except for some occupations in the information communication, manufacturing and processing fields. Second, the occupational characteristics affecting the employment possibilities of the humanities college graduates to science and engineering field are as follows: low importance of the final education, low importance of the major, low importance of qualification, high importance of vocational training, easy to return after the career break, high level of gender equality, high level of pleasant work environment, high employment retention, easy to self-employment or start-up, and increasing number of jobs. Based on the results of this study, to support employment of humanities college graduate from the occupational aspect, it is necessary to find out some detailed jobs or to develop convergence occupations. At this time, it is possible to utilize the occupational characteristics factors that increase the employment possibility of humanities college graduates to science and engineering occupations.

  • This study aims to compare human resource development by industrial and occupational characteristics of science and engineering graduates. To achieve research objectives, this study analyzed whether differences exist in human resource development, such as participation in vocational training, wage levels, and cuture of talened person preference, by industrial and occupational characteristics. The results showed that workers in engineering fields received more benefits and support compared to those in non-science and engineering field occupations at the quantitative statistics of vocational training and wage levels. On the contrary, according to the qualitative statistics, workers of non-science and engineering field have a culture of talented person preference compared to those in science and engineering occupation.

  • Delay, cost overrun and inferior quality in public works are common in Nepal and Cambodia. Almost 90 percent of the civil construction engineers working in the industry were one-degree graduates without appropriate training. The civil engineering education had provided elemental engineering knowledge to the graduates however integrated engineering and management knowledge and skill are essential for efficient infrastructure development. ODA in developing countries had been concentrated in hard infrastructure development without improving the quality of higher education. Integrating ODA to engineering education system would help develop qualified technical manpower and appropriate technology domestically, and improve the efficiency in infrastructure development in developing countries.

  • Currently social and economical situations of the world including Korea are tremendously changing because of developments of various technologies including information technology. It is well known that the current world is society of globalization, knowledge and information. In order to accomodate the engineering education of Korea to the world standards, many researches about engineering education should be studied. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to develope the course of 'Introduction to Engineering Design' for undergraduate students in engineering schools. The graduates from the engineering schools should have various communication skills such as presentation, report preparation, language skills, etc. Also the graduates have to change their mind from passivity to creativity for their works. The other important things for graduates are improvement of the teamwork skills in the team and improvement of project management skills. Therefore, this paper will present the processes of the course development and the contents of the course concerning teamwork, inventive thinking, project management, and presentation skills.

  • The present study aims to demonstrate that it is possible to objectively evaluate the competency (referred to as graduate attributes or program outcomes) of graduates of engineering education programs. To strengthen the link between engineering education accreditation and the qualification/certification system of engineering professionals, referred to as K-Engineering Professional (K-EP), individually assuring the quality of accredited graduates using multiple-choice test as main assessment tool is proposed. Test questions related to the basic vocational skills of NCS are developed for seven of the 10 program outcomes of the ABEEK KEC2015. The three program outcomes, PO1, PO3, and PO5, which need to fully accommodate the characteristics of each disciplinary field, are excluded. A pilot test involving graduates of eight accredited programs is conducted. Applying on Rasch model based on Item Response Theory (IRT), the item difficulty, fit and discrimination of multiple choice test are demonstrated. The pilot study strongly suggests that individual competency evaluation is possible at a certain level for seven program outcomes tested. For PO1, PO3, and PO5, however, questions that address the characteristics of each disciplinary field need to be devised. If a suitable pool of questions is built, it can be used as a program outcomes assessment tool by the accredited programs.

  • This study was conducted to explore differences of major selection regret and reasons by major selection motivation, and differences of college life, employment goal, first job satisfaction among groups by major selection motivation and regret of college graduates. For this study, '2013 Year Graduates Occupational Mobility Survey' of KEIS was examined by cross-tabulation analysis and one-way analysis of variance. The results were as follows: First, in the case of major selection by intrinsic motivation, less regrets were given than extrinsic motivation. Second, the biggest reason of regret was 'difficulty of unemployment' in case of intrinsic motivation and 'not fit in aptitude' in case of extrinsic motivation. Third, there were differences of college life, employment goal, first job satisfaction among four groups by major selection motivation and regret.
