Purpose: This study was done to investigate the correlation among emotional labor, nursing professional values, and job satisfaction and identify factors that affect job satisfaction of nurses working in small and medium-sized hospitals. Methods: Data were collected from 214 nurses in S city. The following measurement tools were used: Emotional labor by Morris et al. (1996), Nursing Professional Values Scale by Yeun et al. (2005), and Index of Work Satisfaction by Stamps et al. (1978). Collected data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN 18.0 using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression. Results: Participants' scores for emotional labor, nursing professional values and job satisfaction were $3.11{\pm}0.48$, $3.46{\pm}0.39$, and $3.02{\pm}0.29$ respectively. Emotional labor showed a negative correlation with job satisfaction (r=-.33, p<.001), while nursing professional values showed a positive correlation with job satisfaction (r=.58, p<.001). Emotional labor and nursing professional values were identified as factors influencing job satisfaction. The model explained about 39% of the variance in job satisfaction (F=67.40, p<.001). Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that it is important to manage emotional labor as well as to improve professional values and job satisfaction of nurses working in small and medium-sized hospital.

This study was a descriptive study to investigate emotional labor, clinical practice stress and satisfaction of clinical practice in nursing college students. The data were collected using an self-reporting questionnaire from June 1 to July 12, 2015. Collected data were analysed on SPSS Win 20.0. The study results were summarized as follows : The students' emotional labor was $3.13{\pm}0.54$ in average on a scale of 5. The clinical practice stress was $3.65{\pm}0.47$ in average, and students' satisfaction of clinical practice was $3.41{\pm}0.43$. The emotional labor has positive correlation significantly with clinical practice stress(r=0.353, p<.001), and negative correlation with satisfaction of clinical practice (r=-0.170, p<.007). In stepwise multiple regression to put control variables, emotional labor and clinical practice stress were no significant influence toward satisfaction of clinical practice. According the result, to improve the satisfaction of clinical practices emotional labor should be released. Moreover it is necessary to attention to the health care of nursing students and it is needed to boost up the students satisfaction with major, more friendly relations should be built with co-trainees.
Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the influences of job performance of dental hygienists on emotional labor evaluation. Methods: A self-administered questionnaire was completed by 203 dental hygienists working at dental hospitals and clinics in Gyeongnam and Busan from May 2014 and March 2015. The study instruments comprised general characteristics of the subjects (9 items), job performance competency (44 items), and emotional labor evaluation (29 items) by Likert 5 point scale. Data were analyzed by SPSS 21.0 program and AMOS 18.0 program. Results: Those who had turnover intention showed higher scores in the dental treatment cooperation category and overall job performance than those who had not. Higher job performance was shown in those who had more work experience and higher salary. The scores of emotional labor evaluation were higher in the group of higher salary and team and department leaders. The job performance had a significant impact of the emotional labor evaluation. Conclusions: The job performance of dental hygienists had a significant influence on the emotional labor evaluation. Psychologic stress by work caused the dental hygienists to have depression and lower quality of life.
Objectives: This study aimed to provide basic data on ways to facilitate effective communication between patients and dental hygienists, to improve the job satisfaction of dental hygienists, and to reduce the turnover rate among dental hygienists. Therefore, a comparative analysis of the perception of dental hygienists' emotional labor was conducted targeting patients and dental hygienists. Methods: Data were collected from August 1 to September 20, 2018, from 367 participants, including 216 dental hygienists and 151 patients residing in Gwangju, Jeonnam. Using the co-orientation model, their perception of dental hygienists' emotional labor was analyzed through the independent t-test and paired t-test. Results: With reference to objective consistency, patients showed a higher perception of dental hygienists' emotional labor than dental hygienists did, indicating that the former perceived the emotional labor more negatively. Regarding accuracy, there were significant differences in dental hygienists' response to six questions, while the same was observed for 11 questions for patients. Thus, the accuracy of dental hygienists was relatively higher than that of patients. Conclusions: To help dental hygienists perform dental health prevention activities more actively, consistently, and happily, and to establish commitment and professionalism in dental hygienists to enhance national dental health. Additionally, it would be necessary to sustain continuous research interest on measures for understanding the co-oriented relationship between patients and dental hygienists, and to solve the negative elements of dental hygienists' emotional labor.
Purpose: In this study self-efficacy, emotional labor, pediatric nurse-parent partnership and job stress of pediatric nurses were examined. Factors affecting job stress of pediatric nurses were also investigated. Methods: The study was done between June and September 2014, with a convenience sample of 145 nurses from 3 advanced general hospitals, 5 general hospitals and 2 children's hospitals. Research data were collected via questionnaires and analysed using SPSS version 18.0. Results: Average levels of self-efficacy, emotional labor and job stress were similar to other general nurses and the average level of pediatric nurse-parent partnership was also similar to other pediatric nurses. Job stress of pediatric nurses showed a positive correlation with emotional labor and negative correlations with self-efficacy and pediatric nurse-parent partnership. The most significant factor affecting job stress in pediatric nurses was emotional labor (${\beta}=0.372$, p<.001). The combination of emotional labor, pediatric nurse-parent partnership and self-efficacy accounted for 25.4% of job stress in pediatric nurses. Conclusion: These results suggest that nursing management strategies to decrease emotional labor and improve pediatric nurse-parent partnerships and self-efficacy are critical to decrease job stress for pediatric nurses. Continued development of nursing management interventions to decrease job stress in pediatric nurses is suggested.
