  • For effective science learning, teachers need to rearrange scientific language so that students can understand the contents with their incomplete language resources. Interlanguage is the interplay between everyday language and scientific language. The purpose of the study was to analyze the patterns of interlanguage during 4th grade science class to learn "Heat and Temperature" and to find the features of meaning sharing inside classroom in which a teacher and students participated. The data analysis shows that elementary students' interlanguage has different features compared to scientific language that involves passive voice and content-specialized nouns. Students' interlanguage implied the quality of class community's knowledge-sharing, according to the degree of how students can connect scientific language and everyday language in more effective ways. The implication to elementary science education was discussed.

  • In this research a questionary survey was implemented to investigate how elementary school students in $3^{rd}-6^{th}$ grade understood articles or terminology using electromagnetic wave technology in contemporary culture. Also, part of students who had participated in questionnaire survey was interviewed 2 times for each 20 minute personally to investigate students' perceptions about some household articles in their every day life using electromagnetic wave technology. As a result, first, elementary school students had pretty higher perceptions of the artificial satellite provided in their curriculum and the technology of electromagnetic wave released from cartoons, computer games or advertisements. Second, because they were concerned about appearances of household articles, they perceived some household articles in their every day life with conceptions of electricity or visual mechanism.

  • Factors and causal structures of pre-service elementary teachers about the critical thinking and the scientific literacy competency were investigated in this study. The third grade university students and the first grade university students in the metropolitan city participated in this study. The factor analysis method and the structural equation modeling method were used for the data analysis, and the following results were obtained. First, the third grade university students and the first grade university students recognized 'inquisitive thinking' factor and 'reflective thinking' factor as factors of the critical thinking, and 'scientific explanation' factor and 'evidence-based conclusion' factor as factors of the scientific literacy competency respectively. Second, the third grade university students showed more the influence from 'reflective thinking' factor to 'scientific explanation' factor and from 'reflective thinking' factor to 'evidence-based conclusion' factor than the first grade university students.

  • This study focused on explicitly instructional effects about NOS(Nature of Science) of sixth grade students. Participants were 28 sixth grade students. Data sources included classroom observations of the explicit NOS science lessons, questionnaire, and interviews. 5 students among the participants were selected for the interviews. Date were analyzed for finding the changes of students' thoughts. Before the instruction, the majority of participants held naive views of NOS, but after the instruction, the majority of participants held informed views of NOS. Developing informed conception of NOS within curriculum is necessary to growth of science education.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of the invention animations on the invention attitudes of elementary school students. This study was conducted with a pre-and-post test experimental design. The participants were 73 students from J elementary school in Daejeon. Among them, 36 students were the experiment group and 37 students were the comparison group. Watching invention animations were conducted in a classroom everyday for 24 times. Assessments of Invention Attitudes were administered to all the participants during the pre-test and post-test. To analyze the data, the analysis of covariance(ANCOVA) was adopted. The result of this study was as follows: The experimental group who watched invention animations showed significantly higher improvement in Invention Attitudes and sub-factors of Invention Attitudes(Attentional Attitude, Emotional Attitude, Cognitional Attitude) than the comparison group. In conclusion, watching invention animations had positive effect on the invention attitudes of elementary school students.

  • Purpose: This study develops a chatbot for school violence prevention (C-SVP) among elementary school students. Methods: Among the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation (ADDIE) models, ADD phases were applied to develop a C-SVP. Students' learning needs were identified by constructing content with a design that attracted their attention. Subsequently, a formative evaluation was conducted on the developed C-SVP to test its applicability by ten elementary school students targeting the 5th and 6th grades. Results: The chatbot was designed using KakaoTalk and named "School Guardian Angel." The formative evaluation revealed that the developed C-SVP was easily accessible and useful for elementary school students. Conclusion: The developed C-SVP is expected to be effective in preventing violence among elementary school students. However, further research involving children of various age groups is required.

The nurse image was analyzed through the instrument conceived by Il-Sim, Yang(1998) on the basis of four dimensions; traditional, social, professional and personal. The collected data analyzed using SPSS 11.0 with frequency, mean, standard deviation and t-test. Results: The results of this study were as follows. 1. There was a significant difference in the nurse's image between elementary and middle school students(p=.000), and the elementary students had more positive image. 2. The nurse's image of elementary school students had more positive than middle school students in traditional(p=.000), social(p=.000), professional(p=.000) and personal dimension(p=.015). In elementary school students, score of nurse's image was the highest in personal dimension, followed by traditional, professional and social in order. In middle school students, score of nurse's image was the highest in personal dimension, followed by professional, traditional and social in order. 3. The difference of nurse's image not showed statistical significance in sex, religion, experience of hospitalization(self), experience of hospitalization (family), nurses in family by general characteristics. Conclusion: As a result, elementary school student had more positive nurse's image than middle school student in all the aspects. But as they grow old, it changed negative. It is required to develop public information or education fit with student's age to image making by broadcasting and to improve the image nurses themselves.

  • This study was designed to compare the understanding of ordinary elementary school students and scientifically gifted students about scientists. 473 fourth, fifth, and sixth graders in ordinary elementary schools and 40 students attending scientific educational institutions for the gifted were studied with the help of questionnaires and interviews. The survey showed that there were no significant differences between the two subject groups in relation to the external images of scientists. The subjects turned out to have low fixed external images. The scientifically gifted students had a better understanding of the internal images of scientists than ordinary elementary school students. Both the subject groups fumed out to be influenced by the press media and off-campus education, thinking that scientists served as inventors producing something useful in daily lift rather than as researchers studying natural phenomena or laws. It was found out that both groups admired Edison. The ordinary students respected Einstein and Jang Yeong-Sil whereas the scientifically gifted students respected Curie, Jug Yeong-Sil, and Nobel. The subjects admired them because of their achievements instead of their backgrounds or individual characteristics.

  • The purpose of this study was investigated the perceptions and expectations of science gifted elementary students in the laboratory-based science learning. For the purpose of this study, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 20 science gifted elementary students in J city. The question of the interview is constructed with perception and expectation of science gifted elementary students in divided with 4steps of understanding of lesson object, planning experiment, performing experiment and drawing conclusion in laboratory-based science learning and an attitude for science. The interview is progressed per individual and all the content of the interview is recorded. The result of this research is as follows. The science gifted elementary students have a wish for building an assumption and expectation and planning an experiment with discussion more than following the textbook and teacher present. In the step of the experiment, they wanted general more discussion of their own activities rather than teacher's instruction and they wanted teacher's instruction and they wanted teacher's mediation conflicts within small groups and comments for students' experiment results. The science gifted elementary students wish to open a science lab, which man who likes science can go and come freely and to study with friends who have a same interest to make a theme. And from top to bottom they want to test autonomous and ask to salute like a representative experiment of teacher. And they ask to have a chance to test individually and want to see a movie related to an experiment before doing an experiment. Like this, it presents that the scientifically gifted elementary students want to do an experiment what they can, want to have a class which can plan and can do an experiment by themselves through discussion with the unit more than following explanation of a teacher and a textbook without condition.
