Increasing demand for portable and wireless electronic devices with high power and energy densities has inspired global research to investigate, in lieu of scarce rare-earth and expensive ruthenium oxide-like materials, abundant, cheap, easily producible, and chemically stable electrode materials. Several potential electrode materials, including carbon-based materials, metal oxides, metal chalcogenides, layered metal double hydroxides, metal nitrides, metal phosphides, and metal chlorides with above requirements, have been effectively and efficiently applied in electrochemical supercapacitor energy storage devices. The synthesis of self-grown, or in-situ, nanostructured electrode materials using chemical processes is well-known, wherein the base material itself produces the required phase of the product with a unique morphology, high surface area, and moderate electrical conductivity. This comprehensive review provides in-depth information on the use of self-grown electrode materials of different morphologies in electrochemical supercapacitor applications. The present limitations and future prospects, from an industrial application perspectives, of self-grown electrode materials in enhancing energy storage capacity are briefly elaborated.

The activated carbon is a very good choice for using as supercapacitor electrode materials. Herein, the flower of Shorea robusta, a bio-waste material was successfully used to synthesize the activated carbons for application as supercapacitor electrode materials. The activated carbon was synthesized through chemical activation process followed by thermal treatment at 700℃ in presence of N2 atmosphere using KOH, ZnCl2 and H3PO4 as the activating agents. The physicochemical analyses demonstrate that the obtained activated carbons are graphitic in nature and the degree of disorder of the graphitic carbons is changed with the activating agents. The activated carbon obtained from Shorea robusta flower (ACSF-K) electrode shows the specific capacitance of ~610 F g-1 at 2 A g-1 current density, which is higher than ACSF-Z (560 F g-1) and ACSF-H (470 F g-1) electrode material under the identical current density. The synthesized graphitic carbons also demonstrated good rate capability and high electrochemical stability as supercapacitor electrode.
This study has carried out a performance of dimensionally stable anode for the purpose of decolorization of Rhodamine B (RhB) in water. Seven kinds of 1, 2 and 3 component electrodes were prepared by plating and thermal deposition, which were coated by the oxides of Pt, Ru, Ir, Sn-Sb, Ir-Sn-Sb, Ru-Sn-Sb and Ru-Sn-Ti on Ti metal surface, respectively. Performance for RhB decolorization of the seven electrodes lay in: Ru-Sn-Ti/Ti ${\fallingdotseq}$ Ru-Sn-Sb/Ti > Ir-Sn-Sb/Ti > Sn-Sb/Ti > Ru/Ti > Ir/Ti > Pt/Ti. The effects of electrode area and distance, electrolyte type and concentration, current density and pH were investigated on the decolorization of RhB using Ru-Sn-Ti/Ti electrode. Decolorization of RhB was not influenced by electrode area and distance largely, however wattage was influenced by them. NaCl was superior to the decolorization of RhB than $Na_2SO_4$. Optimum NaCl dosage and current density were 0.5 g/L and $0.183A/cm^2$, respectively. The pH effect of decolorization of RhB was not significant within the range of 3-7.
In this study, N/S co-doped carbon felt (N/S-CF) was prepared and characterized as an electrode material for electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs). A commercial carbon felt (CF) was immersed in an aqueous solution of thiourea and then thermally treated at 800 ℃ under an inert atmosphere. The prepared N/S-CF showed a large specific surface area with hierarchical pore structures. The electrochemical performance of the N/S-CF-based electrode was evaluated using both 3-electrode and 2-electrode systems. In the 3-electrode system, the N/S-CF-based electrode showed a good specific capacitance of 177 F/g at 1 A/g and a good rate capability of 41% at 20 A/g. In the 2-electrode system (symmetric capacitor), the freestanding N/S-CF-based electrode showed a specific capacitance of 275 mF/cm2 at 2 mA/cm2, a rate capability of 62.5 % at 100 mA/cm2, a specific power density of ~ 25,000 mW/cm2 at an energy density of 23.9 mWh/cm2, and a cycling stability of ~ 100 % at 100 mA/cm2 after 20,000 cycles. These results indicate the N/S co-doped carbon felts can be a promising candidate as a new electrode material in a symmetric capacitor.

In this study, a water electrolysis was studied to investigate the effect of ammonia on current density and H2 gas production. A H type cell with three electrodes was used and KOH solution was used as electrolyte. The conventional platinum foil was used for working electrode, whereas nickel foam was used for counter electrode. CV experiment was performed to see the activity of ammonia oxidation reaction. In addition, CP experiment was done to examine the dependence of Faraday efficiency of hydrogen on current density and NH3 concentration. The CV result shows the 0.5M NH3 concentration required for highest current density and reliable operation. The CP result shows the increased current density leads to higher H2 generation. The higher H2 production and subsequent energy efficiency was observed for 0.5M NH3 using a Pt/13%Rh coil for a cathode as compared to those in water electrolysis.

In semiconductor industry, it is expected that plasma process which use 450 mm source will be used at next generation. However, main obstacle of the large area plasma source is plasma uniformity from it. When electrode is enlarged, field difference between center area and side area reduces the plasma uniformity [1-3]. Therefore we investigate multi-electrode which diminish this field difference. We designed two multi-electrode models. One has two segments and the other has five segments. Each multi-electrode model is connected with two power generator and two matchers. One generator and one matcher is connected with center electrode part. The other one generator and the other one matcher is connected with side electrode part. The ion density is measured at 29 points by using floating harmonic method [4-6]. After measuring the data of each multi-electrode model, we discuss the difference of profile between two models' data.

Current distributions according to electrode patterns in vertical structured InGaN/GaN LED (light emitting diode) were investigated quantitatively by utilizing three dimensional electrical circuit modeling method. The uniformity of the injected current density in the active layer was compared among different electrode patterns. It was found that the current uniformity was greatly dependent on the electrode pattern in vertical InGaN/GaN LEDs.

The apparent density. self-separation of the electrode composite from current collector in the electrolyte solution and specific resistance of electronic conduction of the electrode composite were examined by the variation of content of conductive material such as graphitic and black carbons in $LiCoO_2$ composite electrode for lithium ion battery. Increasing the content of conductive material, the apparent density of Lico02 composite electrode was decreased and that of $LiCoO_2$ in composite electrode was only rapidly decreased compared to that of composite. $LiCoO_2$ composite electrodes containing more than 4.1 weight percent of super s black as a conductive material were seU-separated by the immersion into 1 mol/I $LiPF_6$ in propylene carbonate and diethyl carbonate (1:1 volume ratio). Specific resistances related to the electronic conduction of composite electrode were decreased by the increasing the content i)f conductive material. Specific resistance of the composite electrode including $2\~3\%w/w$ of super s black as conductive material was similar to that of $12\%w/w$ of Lonza KS6. In the range of this study, super s black as conductive material is better than Lonza KS6 on battery capacity because of apparent density of $LiCoO_2$ in electrode composite including super s black is higher than that of Lonza KS6.
To investigate the electrode structural effect on the ferroelectric electron emission, the electric field distribution in a 2-dimensional structure was calculated as a function of upper electrode diameter, and the switching charge density and emission charge were measured simultaneously. The simulation of the electric field distribution showed that an asymmetric electrode structure could cause a stray field on the bare surface of the ferroelectric cathode near the edge of upper electrode. The distance of stray field from the electrode edge increased with increasing ferroelectric thickness, but it did not depend on the upper electrode diameter. The switching charge density increased more on the cathode with smaller upper electrode diameter. This was attributed to the stray field on the bare ferroelectric surface near the electrode edge, because the stray field for the asymmetric ferroelectric cathode enhanced polarization switching near the electrode edge. From the switching charge density, the distance of stray field from the electrode edge was calculated as about 11-14${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The threshold voltage of electron emission was 61-68 kV/cm, which was almost 3 times lager than the coercive voltage. The threshold voltage was not determined just by coercive voltage, but by strength and distance of the stray-field, which largely depended on the geometrical structure of ferroelectric cathode.

Electro-deposition of carbon film on silicon substrate in methanol solution was carried out with various current density, solution temperature and electrode spacing between anode and cathode. The carbon films with smooth surface morphology and high electrical resistance were formed when the distance between electrode was relatively wider. The electrical resistance of the carbon films were independent of both current density and solution temperature.
