  • We proposed an adaptive block truncation coding(BTC) using gradient and a new initial value. We used gradient of sobel operator as a new category classification coefficient to reduce Jagged appearance at edge part. We defined a new initial value to reduce large quantization error in the 4-level quantizer block including edge part. By computer simulations, we showed that the proposed method less computation load, reduced jagged appearance at edge part, also improved PSNR more than the conventional adaptive BTC.

  • This paper deals with a thrust generation of flapping-airfoil by dynamic stall. From many other previous research results, phase angle $ between pitching and plunging mode of flapping motion must be 90 deg. to satisfy maximum propulsive efficiency. In this case, leading edge vortex is relatively small. This phenomenon is related dynamic stall. So preventing leading edge vortex induced by dynamic stall guarantees maximum propulsive efficiency. But, in this paper we insist the leading edge vortex yields quite a positive influence on thrust generation and propulsive efficiency. In order to certify our opinion, pitching and plunging motions were calculated with the parameter of amplitude and frequency by using the unsteady, incompressible Navier-Stokes flow solver with a two-equation turbulence model. For more efficient computation, it is parallelized by MPI programming method.

  • The evaluation of a zonal RANS-LES approach is documented for the prediction of broadband noise generated by the flow past unmodified and serrated airfoil trailing edges at a high Reynolds number. A multi-domain decomposition is considered, where the acoustic sources are resolved with a LES sub-domain embedded in the RANS domain. A stochastic vortex method is used to generate synthetic turbulent perturbations at the RANS-LES interface. The simulations are performed with a general-purpose unstructured control-volume code FLUENT. The far-field noise is calculated using the aeroacoustic analogy of Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings. The results of the simulation are validated through the full-scaled wind turbine acoustic measurements. It is found that the present approach is adequate for predicting noise radiation of serrated trailing edge flow for low noise rotor system.

  • We presents an edge-based point correlation algorithm for fast and stable visual inspection system. Conventional algorithms based on NGC(normalized gray-level correlation) have to overcome some difficulties in applying automated inspection systems to real factory environment. First of all, NGC algorithms involve highly complex computation and thus require high performance hardware for realtime process. In addition, lighting condition in realistic factory environments is not stable and therefore intensity variation from uncontrolled lights gives many troubles for applying NGC directly as pattern matching algorithm. We propose an algorithm to solve these problems, using thinned and binarized edge data, which are obtained from the original image. A point correlation algorithm with the thinned edges is introduced with image pyramid technique to reduce the computational complexity. Matching edges instead of using original gray-level image pixels overcomes problems in NGC method and pyramid of edges also provides fast and stable processing. All proposed methods are proved by the experiments using real images.

  • Mobile edge computing (MEC) plays a crucial role in improving the performance of resource-constrained mobile devices by offloading computation-intensive tasks to nearby edge servers. However, existing methods often neglect the critical consideration of future task requirements when making offloading decisions. In this paper, we propose an innovative approach that addresses this limitation. Our method leverages recurrent neural networks (RNNs) to predict task sizes for future time slots. Incorporating this predictive capability enables more informed offloading decisions that account for upcoming computational demands. We employ genetic algorithms (GAs) to fine-tune fitness functions for current and future time slots to optimize offloading decisions. Our objective is twofold: minimizing total processing time and reducing energy consumption. By considering future task requirements, our approach achieves more efficient resource utilization. We validate our method using a real-world dataset from Google-cluster. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed approach outperforms baseline methods, highlighting its effectiveness in MEC systems.

  • Stereo images have an advantage of calculating depth(distance) values which can not analyze from 2-D images. However, depth information obtained by stereo images has due to following reasons: it can be obtained by computation process; mismatching occurs when stereo matching is processing in occlusion which has an effect on accuracy of calculating depth information. Also, if global method is used for stereo matching, it needs a lot of computation. Therefore, this paper proposes the method obtaining disparity map which can reduce computation time and has higher accuracy than established method. Edge extraction which is image segmentation based on feature is used for improving accuracy and reducing computation time. Color K-Means method which is image segmentation based on color estimates correlation of objects in an image. And it extracts region of interest for applying Loopy Belief Propagation(LBP). For this, disparity map can be compensated by considering correlation of objects in the image. And it can reduce computation time because of calculating region of interest not all pixels. As a result, disparity map has more accurate and the proposed method reduces computation time.

  • Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a promising technology for monitoring physical phenomena at fine-grained spatial and temporal resolution. However, the typical approach of sending each sensed measurement out of the network for detailed spatial analysis of transient physical phenomena may not be an efficient or scalable solution. This paper focuses on in-network physical phenomena detection schemes, particularly the distributed computation of the boundary of physical phenomena (i.e. event), to support energy efficient spatial analysis in wireless sensor networks. In-network processing approach reduces the amount of network traffic and thus achieves network scalability and lifetime longevity. This study investigates the recent advances in distributed event detection based on in-network processing and includes a concise comparison of various existing schemes. These boundary detection schemes identify not only those sensor nodes that lie on the boundary of the physical phenomena but also the interior nodes. This constitutes an event geometry which is a basic building block of many spatial queries. In this paper, we introduce the challenges and opportunities for research in the field of in-network distributed event geometry boundary detection as well as illustrate the current status of research in this field. We also present new areas where the event geometry boundary detection can be of significant importance.

  • Scene text extraction is important because it offers some important information on different image based applications pouring in current smart generation. Edge-Enhanced MSER(Maximally Stable Extremal Regions) which enhances the boundaries using the canny operator after extracting the basic MSER shows excellent performance in terms of text extraction. But according to setting the threshold of the canny operator, the result images using Edge-Enhanced MSER are different, so there needs a method figuring out the threshold. In this paper, we propose a AEMSER(Adaptive Edge-enhanced MSER) that applies the method extracting the boundary using the middle value of histogram to Edge-Enhanced MSER to get the canny operator's threshold. The proposed method can acquire better result images than the existing methods because it extracts the area only for the obvious boundaries.

  • We propose a two-tier cooperative computing system comprised of a mobile device and an edge server for partial offloading of multi-branch structures in Fog/Edge Computing environments in this paper. The proposed system includes an algorithm for splitting up application service processing by using reconstructive linearization techniques for multi-branch structures, as well as an optimal collaboration algorithm based on partial offloading between mobile device and edge server. Furthermore, we formulate computation offloading and CNN layer scheduling as latency minimization problems and simulate the effectiveness of the proposed system. As a result of the experiment, the proposed algorithm is suitable for both DAG and chain topology, adapts well to different network conditions, and provides efficient task processing strategies and processing time when compared to local or edge-only executions. Furthermore, the proposed system can be used to conduct research on the optimization of the model for the optimal execution of application services on mobile devices and the efficient distribution of edge resource workloads.
