This study was carried out to investigate the eating behaviors and the preferences of industrial workers in Korea. This survey was conducted from May 20 to June 20, 1998 by constructed questionnaires and the subjects were 364 males and 588 females. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1) The subjects who didn't have breakfast regularly were 41.7% because they didn't have enough time to eat. The main type of breakfast were cooked rice. 2) The subjects who used the company cafeteria were 60.5% and men used the company cafeteria more than women. The most favorite side dishes by the subjects were roasted foods and next side dishes were seasoned foods. There were not significantly different the kinds of favorite side dishes between men and women. The main reason that the subjects preferred to a specific side dish was 'delicious'. 3) Foods and dishes that the subjects could approached frequently and easily made the eating habits changed. The most favorite meal types of the subjects were Korean foods because those were good taste for the subjects. The favorite snacks by men were ramyon and those by women were rolled rice(Gimbab). 4) The pan-fried foods(Jun) were the most favorite food in the cloudy day and the salads were the most favorite food in the sunny day. The most favorite taste of the subjects were light and clear tastes and next favorite taste of the subjects was salty tastes. This study shows that the eating habit of industrial workers could be changed by easily and frequently approached food and weather. In addition, the lacks of time was main reason that the subjects couldn't have regular breakfast. Therefore, it needs to develop the desirable programs and diet menus to consider the situation of the industrial workers and weather.

This study investigated college students' health status, health attitudes, and eating and general health practices. They then were compared to the students' degree of health consciousness. Four hundred college students in Pusan participated in this study, of which 203 were young men and 197 young women. While college students considered that they were generally healthy, there were a number of negative health factors, such as fatigue and stress, particularly amongst the young women. They were not particularly concerned about or active in taking care of their health. There were, for example, problems of smoking and drinking among the young men, and a lack of exercise among female students. Female had more eating problems than male frequency and consistency in the quantity of meals, overeating, and snacking. On the other hand, women seemed to show more possibilities for improving the food habits. Health status did not appear to co vary significantly with the degree of health con sciousness. However, the higher the level of health concern, the more interest in health information and weight gain anxiety students had, and the more active measures in health care they took. Students who had high or moderate concern for health practiced more desirable eating habit than students who lacked this concern. In conclusion, educational programs which can increase concern for health among college students should be prepared in order to maintain their bodily health now and in the future. If such programs were developed with gender differences in mind, making college students take a positive attitude towards health issues and management of their own health, it would be more effective.
Purpose: This study aimed to examine the association between depression and eating behavior factors in Korean adults. Methods: Study subjects were selected (n = 5,103) from the participants of the 7th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2018 and divided into depression (men, 59; women, 162) and normal groups (men, 2,083; women, 2,799). Subjects with a Patient Health Questionnaire 9 score ≥ 10 (out of 27 points) were defined as having depression. Results: A higher prevalence of depression was observed in both men and women who were unemployed (p < 0.001, p = 0.008), had lower income (both p < 0.001), poorer subjective health (both p < 0.001), and poor food safety (both p < 0.001). The prevalence of depression was higher in women with lower education levels (p = 0.008), who were unmarried (p = 0.010), smokers (p < 0.001), and in a one-person household (p = 0.001). Obese men showed a higher prevalence of depression (p = 0.009). Men who were eating alone or skipping lunch had a high prevalence of depression (p = 0.009), while women who were eating breakfast (p = 0.012), lunch (p = 0.001), and dinner (p = 0.010) alone had a high prevalence of depression. The relationship analysis between men and women according to dietary habits using logistic regression showed that, in women, after variable adjustment, skipping lunch (odds ratio [OR], 2.677; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.090-6.574), meal frequency of 2 times per day (OR, 1.658; 95% CI, 1.084-2.536), and lunch frequency of 3-4 times per week (OR, 3.143; 95% CI, 1.725-5.728) were significantly associated with a higher prevalence of depression. Conclusion: Depression in women was not only affected by more sociodemographic variables but also associated with decreased frequency of lunch and dinner, especially with skipping lunch.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between eating disorders, and self esteem in female college students. Method: The survey was carried out on convenience sample of 388 college female students. The questionnaire consisted of each scale for eating disorder, self-esteem. The data was analyzed by the SPSS/PC using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation. ANOVA, and Spearman correlation. coefficient. Result: More than 43% of the subjects perceived their weight as overweight, while 1.5% of the women were obese as defined by BMI. About 57.4% of subjects were not satisfied with their body shape. Frequency of eating disorder was 5.93%. The score of eating disorder was high when the subjecto had negative perception and low satisfaction with their body shape. The high scores of self-esteem were shown among the group who had high satisfaction on body shape. There was negative correlation between eating disorder and self-esteem (r=-.194, p=.000). Conclusion: This study suggests that the nursing intervention was necessary for female college students to recognize healthier eating habits and increased their self-esteem.
This study, a second analysis research using raw data of the 6th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(2013-015), places its purpose on examining risk factors for the mental health of the youth. With its target on 3,712 people in their twenties and thirties, it has used complex sample cross analysis to figure out the relationship between their mental health and eating habits. Also, it has carried out multiple logistic regression analysis for the purpose of grasping the youth's mental health risk factors. Under the circumstances, controlling the subjects' individual characteristics, the study has shown that males with their breakfast and dinner partners have lower possibilities of depression and suicidal thoughts. Meanwhile, in the case of females, their breakfast and lunch partners have played a key role in lowering their stress and suicidal thoughts. Given these results, the government will have to make all-out efforts to upgrade public places and spaces for the youth to eat together. All this will lead to their healthy eating habits and positive mental health. More specifically, it will have to create variable programs necessary for educating them to manage their diet and enjoy eating with other people.

This paper examined the frequency of skipping breakfast by middle school students for one week. It carried out the study in order to understand the ways skipping breakfast effected other habits. The subjects were 467 middle school students (219 boys, 248 girls). The results of the survey were as follows; average male students were $171.16{\pm}5.9cm$, $61.45{\pm}10.0kg$, and $20.93{\pm}2.9$ in height, weight and body mass index, while the average female students were $159.27{\pm}6.0cm$, $51.62{\pm}7.9kg$ and $20.33{\pm}2.8$. As for the reasons for skipping breakfast, 58.0% of the subjects responded that they had no time. The frequency of skipping breakfast was divided into the eating group (0~1 time) and the skipping breakfast group (2~3times/week, 4~5 times/week, or 6~7 times/week). As the frequency of skipping breakfast increased, so the rate of the subjects eating alone was higher and eating with family lower(p<.05). The dietary behavior change stage was divided into contemplation stage, preparation stage, action stage, and maintenance stage. The eating group(59.2%) was higher than the skipping breakfast group(29.1%~46.3%) in the rate of subjects maintenance stage(p<.01). Accordingly, skipping breakfast was closely connected with eating habits in their families. A dietitian needs to teach the importance of meals and life habits, so as to enhance public awareness of health and nutrition to the students. Subjects of nutrition education must even enlarge their parents as well as the students.

This study investigated the factors affecting restrained and emotional eating according to the BMI of college women in Seoul. Based on their weight, 514 college women were divided into 3 groups. General demographics, nutrient consumption, eating habits and DEBQ were subsequently evaluated. Multiple regression analysis was performed to determine the factors responsible for restrained and emotional eating in each group. Percentage of the overweight or obese group having negative emotions, such as frequency of overeating (p<0.05), habitual eating, regret, and guilt after overeating, was higher as compared to the other groups (p<0.001). Considering factors that affect restrained eating, negative emotion after overeating had a positive correlation in the underweight group (β=0.481, p<0.001). In the normal-weight group, the BMI (β=0.201, p<0.001), total food intake (β=0.241, p=0.002), and negative emotion after overeating (β=0.284, p<0.001) positively affected restrained eating. In the underweight group, habitual eating (β=0.292, p=0.002) and negative emotions after overeating (β=0.233, p=0.012) were determined to affect emotional eating. Moreover, habitual eating (β=0.290, p<0.001) and negative emotions after overeating (β=0.172, p=0.004) were observed to influence emotional eating in the normal weight group. In the overweight and obese groups, habitual eating was determined to affect emotional eating (β=0.410, p<0.001). Taken together, these results provide a basis for creating a weight control program for young women having undesirable eating behaviors, such as restrained and emotional eating.

We studied about dietary habits and obesity of the culinary college students, the average age of male subject was 20.4 years, female 19.8years, male height 174.0cm, female 162.6 cm, body weight of male 71.4 kg, female 60.3 kg. Average body fat% of male was 20.5%, that of female was 30.2%, their average body fat% was at the range of overweight. Most subjects were not satisfied with their body weight and seemed to have ideal body shape as standard and lean. 51.6% of male and 35.2% of female students did not eat breakfast. Male students ratio of eating lunch every day was 41.7%, that of female was 27.0%, male students ratio of eating dinner every day was 54.8%, that of female was 35.5%. They liked to eat meal as rice type and 1-2day per week, they used to eat night snack. The first cause of not eating meal was lack of time. Under stress 56 % of male eated as much as usual, 58.7% of female eated more than usual.

Health Belief Model is a socio-psychological theory of decision making to individual health-related behaviors. This study was aimed to develop an effective education program for hypertension based on health belief model. The main factors of health belief model were investigated by focus group interview (FGI) with 23 hypertensive or prehypertensive subjects aged over fifty years. 'Perceived susceptibility' to hypertension was family history, neglect of health care, preference for salty food, broth of soup and stew. Lifelong medication, complications, and medical costs were reported as 'perceived severity' of hypertension. 'Perceived benefits' of hypertension management were decrease of medicinal dose, reduction of medical costs, and healthy eating habits of the family, while 'perceived barriers' were lack of palatability of low salt diet, convenience-oriented dietary habits, and limited choice of foods when eating out. Subjects mentioned TV health programs, public health center programs, and advice from doctors and family as 'cues to action' of hypertension management. These qualitative information provided basis for developing a nutrition education program for hypertension which could be implemented in the public health center. Eight week program was composed of understanding hypertension, risk factor management (eating habits, weight), low salt diet (principles, cooking), advanced management for healthy diet in 2 sessions, and summary. Each session was designed to alert the susceptibility and severity, to emphasize the benefits, and to reduce the barriers by providing dietary monitoring, practical advice, and action tips.
This study investigated differences in nutritional knowledge and eating habits of adolescents living in rural and urban areas of Inner Mongolia, China. A survey was conducted on 869 middle school students in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia: 436 from urban and 433 from rural school. Subjects answered a questionnaire about socio-economic characteristics such as parents' education level and family affluence scale, nutritional knowledge, needs for nutritional education and food habits. Levels of parents' education (p<0.001) and family affluence (p<0.001) were significantly higher in urban students. Nutritional knowledge level of urban students was higher than that of their counterparts (p<0.001). However, rural students reported higher needs for nutritional education (p<0.001). Rural students more frequently consumed snacks (p<0.001) and instant noodles (p<0.001) than urban students. However, consumption frequencies of lunch (p<0.001), dinner (p<0.001), fast food (p<0.001), fruits (p<0.001), vegetables (p<0.001), and milk (p<0.001) were higher in urban students. Considering differences in eating patterns between urban and rural students in Inner Mongolia, appropriate nutritional education programs and nutritional policies should be established for rural students to promote a healthy diet.
