The Relationships between Preschool Teachers' Personality Traits and Their Relationships at Workplace

  • Preschool teachers' relationships at workplace is an important component that affects the work performance of caring and educating young children. This study investigated the connection between preschool teachers' personality traits and their relationships at workplace. The participants were two hundred and eighty two teachers in 55 preschools and asked to answer the survey questionnaires. Two research questions were investigated; (1) are there correlations between preschool teachers' personality traits and their relationships at workplace? (2) do preschool teachers' personality traits affect their relationships at workplace? The results showed that preschool teachers' personality traits were correlated with their relationships at workplace; neuroticism showed a negative correlation while the other four (extraversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness) showed positive correlations with relationships at workplace. In addition, preschool teachers' personality traits had effects on their relationships at workplace in overall. Especially, neuroticism, agreeableness, and conscientiousness were revealed as significantly influencing personality traits on preschool teachers' relationships at workplace.

A Comparative Study of Job Satisfaction and Stress Coping Strategies of Teachers in Early Childhood Education and Care According to Their Personality Types (영유아교사의 성격유형에 따른 직무만족도와 스트레스 대처 방식의 차이)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate and compare how the Enneargram personality types of teachers in early childhood education and care would affect their job satisfaction and stress coping strategies. The findings are as follows. First, as to the distribution of the participants' Enneargram personality types, the most common was the Peacemaker type and the least common was the Achiever type. Second, for teachers' job satisfaction, there was a statistically significant difference in the job-related subcategory according to their personality types. The post-hot comparison showed that the Loyalist type showed the lowest score in job-related job satisfaction. Third, in terms of stress coping strategies, there was a statistically significant difference in the psychological coping strategy according to their personality types. The post-hot comparison showed that the Individualist type showed the highest score in psychological coping strategy. The implications for future studies are also discussed.

The Effect of Personality Education Activities using Fairy-Tales on Children's Peer Competency and Aggression (동화를 활용한 인성교육 활동이 유아의 또래유능성 및 공격성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study involved using carefully selected fariry tales to effect children's peer competence and aggression. The subjects of this study were 41 four-year-old children from two private kindergarten in I city, South Korea. All subjects were from similar financial backgrounds and were divided into two groups: the experimental group(n=21) and a control group(n-20). The experimental group was given activities related to personality education after listening to fairy tales for 30 minutes every week, and the comparative group was given general daily routine operation. The collected data were analyzed by ANCOVA analysis using SPSSWIN 18.0. The results of the study showed that the experimental group had significantly higher peer competence than the control group and lower aggression. These results suggest that character education activities using fairy tales can have a positive effect on young children's peer competence and aggression.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a personality education program for university students based on animation. The selection of the animation media to be used in the character education program to cultivate the eight core value virtues, eg, efficacy, honesty, responsibility, respect, consideration, communication and cooperation, Based on the eight elements of self - identity of college students, such as job, religion, politics, philosophical lifestyle, friendship, heterosexuality, gender roles and leisure activities. The process of developing personality education program model and activity based on animation of this college student is as follows. The necessity of developing personality education program for college students, Setting basic direction of character education program based on animation, Selection of animation media, Development of personality education program model based on animation, Development of personality education program activity based on animation of self identification, And finalization of personality education program based on final animation. In this study, a total of 16 characters were developed according to the sub - factors of self - identity in the personality education program of university students based on animation.

  • Nowadays, the trend of early childhood education has focused on finding educational activities to enhance quality of learning with integrative, learner-centered experience by combining each subject and domain. Pre-service early childhood teacher's music drama activity is a sort of integrated education including literature, instrumental music, play, art and movement that are included in the culture and art for preschoolers to help them understand role and value of the art and directly influence personality and creativity and motive to arouse interest in various learning directly. It's expected to see that development of creative teaching plan for the music drama using piano ensemble could support basic research in integrated educational activity in the teacher training course and also, activate the music drama activity. Research findings and suggestion are as follows. First, the music drama activities are systematically and step-by-step implemented according to the audience according to the cooperative learning and creative plans of pre-service early childhood teachers. Second, if understanding characteristics of casts in the music drama and assigning their roles efficiently, it enhances approach of pre-service early childhood teacher music drama activity and activate it. Third, making music in music drama activities can be composed and arranged to suit the musical literacy and level of pre-service early childhood teacher. Fourth, pre-service early childhood teachers could have integrated experience and evaluation efficiently in the short term to use as reference for the teaching plan and data for the music drama.

Structural Analysis of Factors Influencing University Students' Happiness (대학생의 행복에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 구조분석)

  • This study was conducted to investigate a correlation of factors that have an influence on the happiness of college students, and to investigate the effect of factors on happiness of college students by analyzing the structure of influencing factors of happiness. To this end, 430 freshmen in college were selected and tested on character, self-esteem, self-leadership, and happiness. The measurement tools used in this study were the 30 questions of Character Scale that Choi Min-Soo and Im Eun-Young(2013) developed and modified by Im Eun-Young(2015), a Self-Leadership Scale of Manz(1998) classified into behavioral strategy and cognitive strategy that Wang Ji-Seon(2011) translated and modified. a Self-Esteem Scale(SES) of Rosenberg(1986) that the researcher modified and used, and The Oxford Happiness Questionnaire of Hills and Argyle(2002) that Choi Yo-Won(2002) translated and the researcher modified. According to the research result, for correlation with happiness, self-esteem was .86, self-leadership was .74, and character was .66, and for correlation with self-leadership, character was .70, self-esteem was .66, and correlation between character and self-esteem was .57. Secondly, for direct effect on happiness, self-esteem was .62, character as .20, self-leadership was .19, and for direct effect on self-leadership, character was .49 and self-esteem was .38. Thirdly, indirect effect of character on happiness through self-leadership was .94 and indirect effect of self-esteem on happiness through self-leadership was .73. Through these research results, it was identified that character, self-esteem, and self-leadership of college students are the influencing factors on happiness, and that self-esteem is the biggest influencing factor on happiness of college students among the three variables. The results of this study suggested that university students' personality had a positive relationship with self-esteem and that university students' personality, self-esteem, and self-leadership altogether had a direct influence on happiness. Moreover, both personality and self-esteem of university students had an indirect influence on happiness through their self-leadership.

The Relationship among Basic Vocational Competencies, Teaching Personality·Aptitude, and Behavior Type of Preschool Teachers (예비보육교사의 직업기초능력, 교직 인·적성, 행동유형 간의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship among NCS basic vocational competencies, Teaching Personality Aptitude and DISC behavior type of pre-preschool teachers. The subjects were 110 pre-preschool teachers attended in D university located in Kyonggido. 'NCS basic vocational competencies scale', 'Teaching Personality and Aptitude scale', and 'DISC behavior type scale' were used in the collection of data. It used Pearson's correlation Analysis to analyze the data. The results of this study are as follows; first, there was positive correlations between dominance trait and mathematical competency. And, there was positive correlations between interaction trait and self-development competency. And there were negative correlations between support traits and NCS basic vocational competencies. Second, it was revealed that positive correlations between almost sub scale's of NCS basic vocational competencies and teacher teaching personality aptitude. Third, there was positive correlations between dominance trait and sub scale of teaching personality aptitude(e.g.: problem solving/ inquiry skills, judgment, creativity/practical ability, leadership, knowledge/information ability, planning ability, sincerity/responsibility). And there were negative correlations between support traits and sub scale of teaching personality aptitude(e.g.: problem solving/ inquiry skills, judgment, creativity/practical ability, leadership, sincerity/responsibility).

The Differences of Big-Five Personality Factors, Academic Adaptation, and Psychological Well-Being According to Grit Cluster Types in College Students (대학생의 그릿 군집 유형에 따른 성격 5요인, 학업적응 및 심리적 안녕감의 차이)

  • Objects: The purpose of this study was to examine the differences of college students' big-five personality factors, academic adaptation, and psychological well-being according to cluster types based on the grit. Methods: The participants of this study were 190 college students. All variables were evaluated by self-report of college students. The data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and two-step clustering statistics using SPSS 21.0. Results: First, a cluster analysis on a sample of 190 college students revealed four clusters: the more highly grit group, higher tenacity group, higher consistency of interests, and the less grit group. Second, there were significant differences of 190 college students' big five personality factors, academic adaptation, and psychological well-being according to cluster types based on the grit. Conclusions: These findings can be used as an important contribution to further research and educational practices for promoting the grit in college students. Also it suggests the need for health education to increase the psychological well-being of college students.
