This paper is concerned with the compression of EEG signals using wavelet-packet based techniques. EEG data compression is desirable for a number of reasons. Primarily it decreases for transmission time, archival storage space, and in portable systems, it decreases memory requirements or increases channels and bandwidth. Upon wavelet decomposition, inherent redundancies in the signal can be removed through thresholding to achieve data compression. We proposed the energy cumulative function for deciding of the threshold value and it works very innovative of EEG data.

In this paper, we propose a novel approach to investigating brain-signal measurement technology using Electroencephalography (EEG). Traditionally, researchers have combined EEG signals with bio-signals (BSs) to enhance the classification performance of emotional states. Our objective was to explore the synergistic effects of coupling EEG and BSs, and determine whether the combination of EEG+BS improves the classification accuracy of emotional states compared to using EEG alone or combining EEG with pseudo-random signals (PS) generated arbitrarily by random generators. Employing four feature extraction methods, we examined four combinations: EEG alone, EG+BS, EEG+BS+PS, and EEG+PS, utilizing data from two widely-used open datasets. Emotional states (task versus rest states) were classified using Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) classifiers. Our results revealed that when using the highest accuracy SVM-FFT, the average error rates of EEG+BS were 4.7% and 6.5% higher than those of EEG+PS and EEG alone, respectively. We also conducted a thorough analysis of EEG+BS by combining numerous PSs. The error rate of EEG+BS+PS displayed a V-shaped curve, initially decreasing due to the deep double descent phenomenon, followed by an increase attributed to the curse of dimensionality. Consequently, our findings suggest that the combination of EEG+BS may not always yield promising classification performance.
BCI system integrates control or telecommunication system with generating electric signals in scalp itself after signal acquisition. This system detect a movement of EEG at real time, can control an electron equipment using a generated signal through EEG movement or software-based processor. In this paper, we deal with removing and separating artifacts induceced from measurement when brain-computer interface system that analyzes recognizes EEG signals occurred from various mental states. In this paper, we proposed a method of EEG classification and an artifact interval detection using bisection mathematical modeling in the EEG classification process for BCI system implementation.

An optimal feature selection and extraction procedure is an important task that significantly affects the success of brain activity analysis in brain-computer interface (BCI) research area. In this paper, a novel method for extracting the optimal feature from electroencephalogram (EEG) signal is proposed. At first, a student's-t-statistic method is used to normalize and to minimize statistical error between EEG measurements. And, 2D time-frequency data set from the raw EEG signal was extracted using discrete wavelet transform (DWT) as a raw feature, standard deviations and mean of 2D time-frequency matrix were extracted as a optimal EEG feature vector along with other basis feature of sub-band signals. In the experiment, data set 1 of BCI competition IV are used and classification using SVM to prove strength of our new method.
Recently computer games have been widely spread. For the purpose of studying brain activities, EEG was measured during the computer game and analyzed in terms of channels and frequency bands. EEG data were obtained during the resting state and game immersion. Then the power spectra of alpha, beta and theta bands were computed. During game immersion, the ratio between theta / alpha could effectively differentiate between rest and game immersion. Changes in brain activity (26~53%) were observed in the parietal and occipital lobes. Interestingly, immersion shows different features compared to concentration. The state of game immersion could be detected. Therefore, it is possible to utilize the state of immersion as one of the game parameters or to generate a control signal that may be used to provide a warning message or abort the game when the situation of the excessive indulgence in the game reaches. EEG can be applied as smart interface for computer game.

In this paper, we present a simple classification model based on statistical features and demonstrate the successful implementation of a brain-computer interface (BCI) based light on/off control system. This research shows study and development of light on/off control system based on BCI technology, which allows the users to control switching a lamp using electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. The logistic regression algorithm is used for classification of the EEG signal to convert it into light on, light off control commands. Training data were collected using 14-channel BCI system which records the brain signals of participants watching a screen with flickering lights and saves the data into .csv file for future analysis. After extracting a number of features from the data and performing classification using logistic regression, we created commands to switch on a physical lamp and tested it in a real environment. Logistic regression allowed us to quite accurately classify the EEG signals based on the user's mental state and we were able to classify the EEG signals with 82.5% accuracy, producing reliable commands for turning on and off the light.

Motor imagery based Brain-computer Interface(BCI), which has recently attracted attention, is the technique for decoding the user's voluntary motor intention using Electroencephalography(EEG). For classifying the motor imagery, event-related desynchronization(ERD), which is the phenomenon of EEG voltage drop at sensorimotor area in ${\mu}$-band(8-13Hz), has been generally used but this method are not free from the performance degradation of the BCI system because EEG has low spatial resolution and shows different ERD-appearing band according to users. Common spatial pattern(CSP) was proposed to solve the low spatial resolution problem but it has a disadvantage of being very sensitive to frequency-band selection. Discriminative filter bank common spatial pattern(DFBCSP) tried to solve the frequency-band selection problem by using the Fisher ratio of the averaged EEG signal power and establishing discriminative filter bank(DFB) which only includes the feature frequency-band. However, we found that DFB might not include the proper filters showing the spatial pattern of ERD. To solve this problem, we apply a band-selection process using CSP feature vectors and linear discriminant analysis to DFBCSP instead of the averaged EEG signal power. The filter selection results and the classification accuracies of the existing and the proposed methods show that the CSP feature is more effective than signal power feature.
The brain-machine interface(BMI) is a next-generation interface that controls the device by decoding brain waves(also called Electroencephalogram, EEG), EEG is a electrical signal of nerve cell generated when the BMI user thinks of a command. The brain-machine interface can be applied to various smart devices, but complex computational process is required to decode the brain wave signal. Therefore, it is difficult to implement a brain-machine interface in an embedded system implemented in the form of an edge device. In this study, we proposed a new type of brain-machine interface system using IoT technology that only measures EEG at the edge device and stores and analyzes EEG data in the cloud computing. This system successfully performed quantitative EEG analysis for the brain-machine interface, and the whole data transmission time also showed a capable level of real-time processing.
In this paper, we designed a multimodal bio-signal measurement system to observe changes in the brain nervous system and vascular system during sleep. Changes in the nervous system and the cerebral blood flow system in the brain during sleep induce a unique correlation between the changes in the nervous system and the blood flow system. Therefore, it is necessary to simultaneously observe changes in the brain nervous system and changes in the blood flow system to observe the sleep state. To measure the change of the nervous system, EEG, EOG and EMG signal used for the sleep stage analysis were designed. We designed a system for measuring cerebral blood flow changes using functional near-infrared spectroscopy. Among the various imaging methods to measure blood flow and metabolism, it is easy to measure simultaneously with EEG signal and it can be easily designed for miniaturization of equipment. The sleep stage was analyzed by the measured data, and the change of the cerebral blood flow was confirmed by the change of the sleep stage.

Objectives: Synchronous electroencephalogram (EEG) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) has been used to explore sleep stage dependent functional brain networks. Despite a growing number of sleep studies using EEG-fMRI, few studies have conducted network analysis on whole night sleep due to difficulty in data acquisition, artifacts, and sleep management within the MRI scanner. Methods: In order to perform network analysis for whole night sleep, we proposed experimental procedures and data processing techniques for EEG-fMRI. We acquired 6-7 hours of EEG-fMRI data per participant and conducted signal processing to reduce artifacts in both EEG and fMRI. We then generated a functional brain atlas with 68 brain regions using independent component analysis of sleep fMRI data. Using this functional atlas, we constructed sleep level dependent functional brain networks. Results: When we evaluated functional connectivity distribution, sleep showed significantly reduced functional connectivity for the whole brain compared to that during wakefulness. REM sleep showed statistically different connectivity patterns compared to non-REM sleep in sleep-related subcortical brain circuits. Conclusion: This study suggests the feasibility of exploring functional brain networks using sleep EEG-fMRI for whole night sleep via appropriate experimental procedures and signal processing techniques for fMRI and EEG.
