  • The utilization and value of drones are increasing throughout society. However, there was a lack of government support and investment such as lack of technology of domestic drone companies, regulation of loans and lack of technology evaluation items. Therefore, this paper conducts statistical analysis to derive what drone capacity should be strengthened for the drone industry activation in Daegu. As a result, the demand satisfaction(price, quality, service) of drones leads to revitalization of drone industry when the physical, social, and policy factors among drones are strengthened. In conclusion, drone capacity to be strengthened in order to revitalize the drone industry in Korea is based on physical factors(drone demand, development, number of registrations, number of businesses and workers), social factors(national level public relations, establishment of public education institutes, correct understanding of drone occupation, preception), policy factors(privacy measures, government funding, legislation and system easing). As for the three factors, the government, industry, and drone operators are expected to have a bright future when the trinity is improved and complemented.

  • With the advent of the fourth industrial revolution era, the use of drone has been progressing rapidly in various fields. Now the drones will be used extensively in the area of investigation. Until now the criminal photographs stayed in 2D digital images, it would be possible to reproduce not only 3D images but also make a crime scene with 3D printer. Firstly, the video images taken by the investigation agency using the drones are digital image evidence, and the requirements for securing the evidence capability are not different from the conditions for obtaining the proof of digital evidence. However, when the drones become a new area of scientific investigation, it is essential to systematize the authenticity of the images taken by the drones so that they can be used as evidence. In this paper, I propose a method to secure the evidence capability of digital images taken by drone.

  • Drones are now widely used in civilian applications such as filming, leisure, agricultural control, monitoring, and the generation of 3D-spatial information, deviating only from military drones. In the field of logistics, prototypes are emerging in the area of logistics transportation, and to develop a future transportation service under the name of a drone tax, each country is introducing its first flight results using its own unique drones. In this paper, we review the domestic and overseas trends of drone delivery service technology, which requires various capabilities such as automatic flight, and review the related core technologies. We then propose the flight capability and road map of a drone delivery service according to the detailed conditions such as the flight area, visibility, and flight method. Additionally, in connection with the postal processing of the Korea Post Office, which would be a main demand for this type of service, we describe a method for realizing a drone delivery service based on the structure, scenario, and deployment of the drone delivery system.

  • Multi-rotor UAVs are utilized in various fields because of the advantages such that a hovering capability such as helicopters, a simple structure and a relatively high thrust. Recently, AR.Drone manufactured by Parrot is easily operated by beginner due to its internal stabilization loop in the on-board computer and it can be easily applied on various researches for the multi-rotor UAVs by providing an SDK(Software Development Kit). Further this platform can be suitably used for application to swarm flight since it is low cost and relatively small. Therefore, in this paper, we introduce the development process of the controller for indoor swarm flight by using the AR.Drone.

  • An unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV), commonly known as a drone, is an aircraft without a human pilot aboard, which is operated by wireless device. A drone provides the capability for the aerial search and traffic control as a police equipment. It has benefits for the missions for the aerial photography with the high resolution camera which can replace eye-dependent search processes. Moreover it has advantage of retrieving several times for the recorded videos. However, if the law enforcement agency misuse and overuse a drone for investigations and search missions without certain regulations and principles, it breaches privacy and personal information infringement. In this paper, we issue a lawful challenges on drone operations and discuss solutions to those challenges.

  • As the unmanned aerial vehicle industry and its related technologies grow each year, the number of abuse cases caused by drones is increasing. In addition to the invasion of privacy caused by indiscriminate photography, terrorism using unmanned aerial vehicles, which have a low detection probability, high location accuracy, and the capability of targeting people or places, as well as carrying chemicals, radiation materials, and small bombs, is becoming a significant problem around the world. Accordingly, many companies are developing anti-drone solutions that consist of various technologies such as radar, EO/IR cameras, and RF jammers to detect and disable unmanned aerial vehicles. This article briefly introduces the recent R&D trends and technical levels of anti-drone technologies.

  • Unmanned flying robots have been used recently in many difficult situations. One of the major issues in this area is the problem of how long these unmanned flying robots can perform a given task successfully. For this, the development of a light body and high-efficiency power supply has been executed widely, but we do not as yet have the complete solution. In this paper, we propose a form of Multi-Copter X8, which can transform into other types to further improve these problems. The proposed robot has a 3-type modification capability, which can produce a more enhanced energy saving effect by reducing power consumption.

  • Drone remote identification (ID) capability is essential to ensure public safety, help law enforcement, and secure the safety and efficiency of the national airspace. Remote ID technology can be used to differentiate compliant drones from illegal drones that pose a potential security risk by providing airspace awareness to the civil aviation agency and law enforcement entities. In addition, the increased safety and efficiency obtained by mandating remote ID will make it possible to operate drones over populated areas and beyond visual lines of sight. In addition, remote ID will allow drones to be safely integrated into unmanned traffic management systems and the national airspace. Remote ID devices can be categorized by type, i.e., broadcast remote ID or network remote ID. The broadcast remote ID, which has high technical maturity and will be applied in the near future, is primarily considered to ensure the security of drones. The network remote ID, which is being developed and tested and will be applied in the distant future, can be used additionally to ensure the safety and the efficiency of the national airspace. In this paper, we analyze the trends on regulation and standardization activities for drone remote ID primarily in the United State and Europe.

  • We argue that the one potential solution is creating a drone or quadcopter that could be used to detect the network hacking attempts and even have the capability to disconnect illegal drones from their user's jamming signals, or de-authenticate them from networks. This could be used as a direct countermeasure, or would at least provide monitoring capacities, for these criminally-purposed drones. In this paper, we focus on implementing the device that can detect intrusion.

  • When operating in confined spaces or near obstacles, collision-free path planning is an essential requirement for autonomous exploration in unknown environments. This study presents an autonomous exploration technique using a carefully designed collision-free local planner. Using LiDAR range measurements, a local end-point selection method is designed, and the path is generated from the current position to the selected end-point. The generated path showed the consistent collision-free path in real-time by adopting the Euclidean signed distance field-based grid-search method. The results consistently demonstrated the safety and reliability of the proposed path-planning method. Real-world experiments are conducted in three different mines, demonstrating successful autonomous exploration flights in environment with various structural conditions. The results showed the high capability of the proposed flight autonomy framework for lightweight aerial robot systems. In addition, our drone performed an autonomous mission in the tunnel circuit competition (Phase 1) of the DARPA Subterranean Challenge.
