According to statistics, drunk drivers who repeatedly violate the DUI (Driving under influence) regulation have been continuously increased, and now the habitual drunk drivers become a societal problem. Employing a confirmative factorial analysis of structural equation model to analysis psychological characteristics of habitual drunk drivers and also seek countermeasures, this study identify the difference among three different groups of drivers: 1) sober drivers, 2) drivers with a DUI violation record, and 3) drivers with more than two records. The results of this study are as follows: First, remedies and educational contents to rectify drunk drivers can be differentiated according to their drunk driving records. Second, using defense mechanism (e.g., rationalization, projection, sublimation), drunk driving psychology (such e.g., sense of guilt, shame, embarrassment) and self-esteem (e.g., affirmation, denial) as theory variables, a Structural Equation is constructed to represent Psychological Characteristics of drunk driving according to records on drunk driving. Third, as a result of analysis of the Psychological Characteristics Model, measures for prevention and reduction of drunk driving suitable for the characteristics of respective group are also suggested. Forth, drunk driving measures based on drinking individuality are complemented by concurrence analysis on records of drunk driving records and National Alcoholism Screening Test (NAST) score. Also, two or more times recorded drunk drivers are classified as inveterate drunk drivers.
The purpose of this paper is to suggest Korean regulatory requirements of railway drivers' qualifications. The qualification of railway drivers is one of major factors that should be managed to reduce human error induced incidents/accidents. We have collected those domestic/foreign cases for suggesting Korean regulatory requirements of railway drivers' qualifications. And we have analysed them to derive some regulatory requirements reducing human error. Finally, we have done preliminary FGI(focused group interview) to vitrificate and validate the regulatory requirements.

This study investigated current status of rest area for drowsy drivers on the highways and drew the related issues to define specifications and design criteria regarding expressway rest area for drowsy drivers on the highways. Based on the investigation result, geometric structure specifications and improvement plans are suggested. The entry part of a rest area for drowsy drivers on the highways was divided into deceleration transition section, deceleration lane and entry connection road while the exit part was divided into exit connection road, acceleration lane and acceleration transition section. The optimum length was estimated by considering the main lane vehicle traveling speed, traveling speed at the beginning/end point of entry/exit connection roads, deceleration and acceleration. In addition, reasonable design criteria were suggested by dividing the parking section of rest area for drowsy drivers according to parking style and cross-section composition, and length of parking space and then considering the ratio of vehicles using rest area for drowsy drivers, the ratio of heavy vehicles, and the design speed within a rest area for drowsy drivers. It is believed that the suggested design criteria on rest area for drowsy drivers on the highways can be utilized in the future planning and maintenance of rest area for drowsy drivers. Additionally, the defined criteria on installing rest area for drowsy drivers on the highways will prevent traffic accidents in resting facilities and highways as well as improve usage and safety of them.
Traffic problems caused by drunk drivers have been steadily raised from the past. Even though the previous researches have focused on the development of countermeasures for preventing drunk driving, the number of drivers violating the DUI (Driving-Under-Influence) regulation is still increasing. Many studies seek countermeasures for preventing drunk driving by comparing the differences between general and drunk drivers. However, few researches have investigated focusing only on the characteristics of drunk drivers. It is well known that characteristics of general drivers are different from those of drunk drivers, and also habitual drunk drivers have different characteristics from non-habitual drunk drivers. Motivated by this fact, only the drivers who have violated DUI regulation are considered in the analysis. This study primarily aims to provide alternative solutions for reducing habitual drunk drivers who are highly inclined to do drunk driving repeatedly. For the analysis, various types of variables potentially effecting drunk driving behavior were investigated, and then truncated count data models were developed to analyze the effects of the variables selected on drunk driving. The results showed that 1) a truncated negative binomial model is better fitted to the data; and 2) five variables including experiential learning, the lack of self-control, self-reflection, the fear of crackdown, and the level of dependence on vehicles were found to be statistically significant.
Purpose : This study investigated the visual functions of drivers aged over 65 year olds and drivers aged 50~65 year olds. In addition, difference of visual functions between professional drivers and normal drivers were investigated. Methods : Forty Driver aged over 65 year olds and 67 drivers aged less than 67 year olds were participated. All participants had more than 5 years of driving experiences and had no ocular pathology. Demographic data(gender, job, age, body condition) and visual functions such as contrast sensitivity(CS), stereopsis, glare recovery time and discomfort glare index were measured. Results : Constrast sensivity under photopic condition was higher with bus driver group. In addition, difference of CS at 12cpd and 18cpd were signifcantly different between normal drivers(1.57) and bus drivers(1.70) (p<0.05). There was no significant difference for glare recovery time, despite of trend of longer recovery time with age. Discomfort glare index was significantly different that normal drivers with more than 65 year olds had 3, taxi and truck driver presented almost 5 index score (p<0.05). Conclusion : Analysis of visual function of elderly drivers, it was confirmed that their visual functions decreased with age. Therefore, visual function tests such as CS, discomfort glare index and stereopsis in addition to current available test may need to be considered for drivers aged over 65.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of long-term taxi driving posture on the balance of musculoskelectal system. Methods : The author practiced Moire topography by using IBS-2000 for 30 male taxi drivers and general people. Then we measured difference of contour lines, difference of shoulder joint height, interval between vertical baseline of pelvis and vertical baseline of neck, ratio of thoracic curve and lumbar curve, difference of width between right and left through Moire topography. After we statistically analyzed difference of Moire topography's data between long-term employed male taxi drivers and general people. Results : 1. Taxi drivers, difference of contour lines in scapular, lumbar, gluteal region was bigger than general people and significant difference(p<0.05) was observed between subject group. 2. Taxi drivers, diference of shoulder joint height was more large than general people and significant difference(p<0.01) was observed between subject group. 3. Taxi drivers, diference of interval between vertical baseline of pelvis and vertical baseline of neck was more large than general people and significant difference((p<0.05) was observed between subject group. 4. Taxi drivers, ratio of thoracic curve was more large than general people and ratio of lumbar curve was more less than general people and significant difference(p<0.05) was observed between subject group. Conclusions : According to above results long-term taxi driving posture might cause musculoskelectal system unbalance.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to research 'Daeri' drivers who work for drunken customers as a substitute driver. This was the first study in Korea to investigate assault and verbal abuse experienced while employed as a 'Daeri' driver. Methods: In this study, we conducted a survey to investigate people who work as 'Daeri' drivers. The survey was performed from September 1 to 7, 2014. The participants were 166 adult men and women who work as full-time 'Daeri' drivers. Results: Participants who experienced physical violence and assault from the customers to the point of disturbing safe driving in a year were 36.1% of total respondents. People who experienced verbal abuse to the point of disturbing safe driving in a year totaled 80.4% of respondents. In addition, there were also qualitative research results. Conclusions: Acts that impede safe driving are a danger to both passengers and drivers. By protecting the safety of 'Daeri' drivers, we will be able to protect the safety of citizens. Therefore, it is necessary to make an effort to protect 'Daeri' drivers from customer violence. Furthermore, it is also necessary to research policy to emplace a legal system that can protect 'Daeri' drivers.
It is very important to research drivers' visual behavior. Angle of vision is very important and accounts for more than 90% as the source of driving information. In curve sections, drivers can know the front circumstances and drive more safely and comfortably through facilities guiding their eye movements. Therefore, the standards of installation and effectiveness of these facilities to guide drivers' gaze need to be reconsidered considering characteristics of drivers' eyes The national road no. 34 (Jincheon IC, Buckamri-Yiriangmun section), which is a high-accident-frequency location, is chosen for experimental place. The aim of this study is to understand the process of drivers' visual movement which is drivers' visual behavior and to check the facilities to guide their eyes. Another goal of this study is to improve facilities to guide drivers' eyes on a result basis of considering drivers' visual behavior especially for traffic safety in a high-accident-frequency curve sections.
The purpose of this study is to deduce improvement plan through analysis of the type and characteristics of traffic accidents caused by elderly drivers, and to establish the traffic safety policies for the elderly drivers. The analyzed result of road traffic accident situation are as follows. Firstly, Traffic accidents caused by elderly drivers were frequent on local roads of poor traffic safety facilities such as lighting. Secondly, The most frequent time zone of Traffic accidents caused by elderly drivers was 18:00 to 20:00, this time zone was mainly darkened. Thirdly, Traffic accidents are often caused by lack of attention occurred by no implementation of safe driving. Institutional Improvement of cosideration for elderly drivers and Traffic Safety Facilities maintenance considering regional particularities is needed for reducing traffic accidents and the safety of our society. Their driving skills of elderly drivers should test themselves constantly, and elderly drivers must hold down driving yourself using the alternative transportation.
The purpose of this study was to analyse the relationships between cognitive abilities and driving characteristics of elderly drivers. Driving characteristics of elderly and younger drivers who were driving a fixed base driving simulator vehicle were examined. Participants consisted of 12 drivers over age 65 (the 'older' group) and 12 drivers between the ages of 25 and 55 (the "younger" group). As indices of cognitive ability, critical flicker fusion frequency (CFF) tests and cognitive reaction tests were given before the driving task. CFF was also tested after the simulated driving task for both groups. Cognitive reaction tests, which were composed of speed estimation tests, multiple choice reaction tests and obstacle avoidance tests, were developed by the Korean Road Traffic Safety Authority in 2003. CFF values between the two groups exhibited significant differences both before and after the task, with a p-value less than 0.01 and a t-value of -3.01 before the test and a p-value less than 0.031 and a t-value of -2.35 after the test. Older drivers' CFF values were lower than those of the younger. However, there was no difference in older or younger driver CFF values before and after the task within the same group. Except for the multiple choice reaction test, there was no difference in cognitive reaction test results between the two groups. The elderly drivers made more errors though they did not differ from the younger drivers in reaction times. At the simulated driving task the reaction time of the elderly driver was longer than that of the younger; however, the driving speed of the elderly was lower and the number of collisions greater. There was a positive correlation (r=.496) between the number of errors in the multiple choice reaction test and the number of collisions in the driving task. Therefore, it was identified that critical attributes contributing to automobile crashes involving elderly drivers included cognitive difficulty in judging and responding to complex situations.
