  • A low-voltage, low-power analog CMOS front-end for a cardiac pacemaker is proposed. The circuits include a 4th order switched-capacitor (SC) filter with a passband of 80-120 Hz and a SC variable gain amplifier whose control range is from 0 to 24-dB with 0.094 dB step. An inverter-based switched-capacitor circuit technique is used for low-voltage operation and ultra-low power consumption, and correlated double sampling technique is used for reducing the finite gain effect of an inverter. The proposed circuit has been designed in a $0.35-{\mu}m$ CMOS process, and it achieves 80-dB SFDR at 5-kHz sampling frequency. The power consumption is only 330 nW at 1-V power supply.

  • In this paper we have suggested a family of chain estimators of the population mean $\bar{Y}$ of a study variate y using two auxiliary variates in two phase (double) sampling assuming that the coefficient of variation of the second auxiliary variable is known. It is well known that chain estimators are traditionally formulated when the population mean $\bar{X}_1$ of one of the two auxiliary variables, say $x_1$, is not known but the population mean $\bar{X}_2$ of the other auxiliary variate $x_2$ is available and $x_1$ has higher degree of positive correlation with the study variate y than $x_2$ has with y, $x_2$ being closely related to $x_1$. Here the classes are constructed when the population mean $\bar{X}_1\;of\;X_1$ is not known and the coefficient of variation $C_{x2}\;of\;X_2$ is known instead of population mean $\bar{X}_2$. Asymptotic expressions for the bias and mean square error (MSE) of the suggested family have been obtained. An asymptotic optimum estimator (AOE) is also identified with its MSE formula. The optimum sample sizes of the preliminary and final samples have been derived under a linear cost function. An empirical study has been carried out to show the superiority of the constructed estimator over others.

  • This paper describes a 12b, 50 Msample/s CMOS AID converter using an acquisition-time minimization technique for the high-speed sampling rate of 50 MHz level. The proposed ADC is implemented in a $0.35\mu\textrm{m}$ double-poly five-metal n-well CMOS technology and adopts a typical multi-step pipelined architecture to optimize sampling rate, resolution, and chip area. The speed limitation of conventional pipelined ADCs comes from the finite bandwidth and resulting speed of residue amplifiers. The proposed acquisition-time minimization technique reduces the acquisition time of residue amplifiers and makes the waveform of amplifier outputs smooth by controlling the operating current of residue amplifiers. The simulated power consumption of the proposed ADC is 197 mW at 3 V with a 50 MHz sampling rate. The chip size including pads is $3.2mm\times3.6mm$.

  • In this paper, $3^{rd}$ SDM with FDPA(Feedback Delay Pass Addition) technique to improve the input range is proposed. Conventional architecture with $3^{rd}$ transfer function is just made as adding a digital delay path in $2^{nd}$ SDM architecture. But the input range is very small because feedback path into the first integrator is increased. But, proposed architecture change feedback path into the first integrator to the second integrator, so input range could be improved about 9dB. The $3^{rd}$ SC SDM with only one operational amplifier was implemented using double-sampling technique. Simulation results for the proposed SDM designed in $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology with power supply voltage 1.8V, signal bandwidth 20KHz and audible sampling frequency 2.8224MHz show SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) of 83.8dB, the power consumption of $700{\mu}W$ and Dynamic Range of 82.8dB.

  • Pyroprocessing is a promising technology for managing spent nuclear fuel. The nuclear material accounting of feed material is a challenging issue in safeguarding pyroprocessing facilities. The input material in pyroprocessing is in a solid-state, unlike the solution state in an input accountability tank used in conventional wet-type reprocessing. To reduce the uncertainty of the input material accounting, a double-stage homogenization process is proposed in considering the process throughput, remote controllability, and remote maintenance of an engineering-scale pyroprocessing facility. This study tests two types of mixing equipment in the proposed double-stage homogenization process using surrogate materials. The expected heterogeneity and accounting uncertainty of Pu are calculated based on the surrogate test results. The heterogeneity of Pu was 0.584% obtained from Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) spent fuel of 59 WGd/tU when the relative standard deviation of the mass ratio, tested from the surrogate powder, is 1%. The uncertainty of the Pu accounting can be lower than 1% when the uncertainty of the spent fuel mass charged into the first mixers is 2%, and the uncertainty of the first sampling mass is 5%.

  • 1) The purpose of this study was to compare the forest survey by ground method with that by aerial photo method. 2) In this study, the forest type map was made by use of the radial line plotter and radial line triangulation method. 3) The difference between the area found by the forest type map above mentioned and that by compass surveying on the ground was none-significant. 4) On aerial photo the stratification was carried out very easily. 5) The following sampling methods were applied : line plot method, representative sampling method and stratified random sampling on the aerial photo. 6) In confirming sampling point the line plot method and the representative sampling method were easier than another. 7) As to stands volume the maximum value was given by stratification, and the minimum by line plot method.

  • A fully-differential touch-screen sensing architecture is presented to improve noise immunity and also support most multi-touch events minimizing the number of amplifiers and their silicon area. A correlated double sampling function is incorporated to reduce DC offset and low-frequency noises, and a stabilizer circuit is also embedded to minimize inherent transient fluctuations. A prototype of the proposed readout circuit was fabricated in a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process and its differential operation in response to various touch events was experimentally verified. With a 3.3 V supply, the current dissipation was 3.4 mA at normal operation and $140{\mu}A$ in standby mode.

  • In this paper, we propose the two-sample test statistic using Wilcoxon signed rank test on ranked-set sampling(RSS) and obtain the asymptotic relative efficiencies(ARE) of the proposed test statistic with respect to Mann-Whitney-Wilcoxon statistic on simple random sampling(SRS), the Mann-Whitney-Wilcoxon statistic on RSS, sign statistic on RSS and Wilcoxon signed rank test on SRS. From the simulation works, we compare the powers of the proposed test statistic, Mann-Whitney-Wilcoxon statistic on RSS, the usual two-sample t statistic, sign statistic on RSS, where the underlying distributions are uniform, normal, double exponential, logistic and Cauchy distributions.

  • A new method to estimate the mean areal precipitation using kriging is developed. Urlike the conventional approach, points for double and quadruple numerical integrations in the kriging equation are selected randomly, given the boundary of area of interest. This feature eliminates the conventional approach's necessity of dividing the area into subareas and calculating the center of each subarea, which in turn makes the developed method more powerful in the case of complex boundaries. The algorithm to select random points within an arbitrary boundary, based on the theory of complex variables, is described. The results of Monte Carlo simulation showed that the error associated with estimation using randomly selected points is inversely proportional to the square root of the number of sampling points.

  • Two phase sampling (double sampling) is often used when there is inadequate population information for proper stratification. Many recent papers have been devoted to the estimation method to improve the precision of the estimator using first phase information. In this study we suggested outlier weight adjustment methods to improve estimation precision based on the weight of the generalized ratio-cum-product estimator. Small simulation studies are conducted to compare the suggested methods and the usual method. Real data analysis is also performed.
