An Informatics Education Program for Enhancing Creative Problem Solving Ability (창의적 문제해결력 향상을 위한 정보 교육 프로그램)

  • In the knowledge based society, it is very important to have an ability to solve problem with knowledge and information. In addition, the number of problems that can not be solved only with existing knowledge are increasing. Therefore, we developed an informatics education program that enhances creative problem solving abilities through systematic collection of information. This program designed to enhance both divergent thinking and convergent thinking. The developed program improves the problem solving ability with learner's internal knowledge as well as new information that is collected from external world. More practical and effective program can be provided through continuous program improvement.

A Study on the Definition of Team Creativity upon the Design Paradigm and Their Sub-domains and Element Extraction (공학 설계 패러다임 변화에 따른 팀 창의성의 정의 및 하위 영역과 요소 도출)

  • This paper attempts to take an in-depth study of the importance of teams and their creativity according to changes of recent design paradigm in engineering and to draw conclusions of the sub-domains and their element extraction. For this purpose, theoretical consideration was reviewed to present the definition of creativity and its sub-domains and elements. Besides, the two steps of expert validation test were conducted to extract the definition of creativity and its sub-domains and elements. The team creativity is defined as a team ability to come up with fresh and useful ideas and to lead them to get meaningful results through cooperative interactions among team members to solve problems given to them based on each member's creativity. Totally, 4 subs -domains and 16 sub-elements were extracted to get to know their influence on the team creativity. This includes a team size, characteristics of team members, and a team structure in team organization domain. To evaluate team atmosphere, elements such as sensibility, fellowship, teamwork, reliability, autonomy and open minded feature are included. In the team activity domain, strategies for solving problems, activities for divergent thinking, activities for convergence thinking and team interaction are included. Also, the sub-domain for team management includes a task, process and conflict management.

Development of STEAM Instructional Materials using Arduino for Creative Engineering Design Class in High Schools and Its Application (일반계고의 창의공학설계 수업을 위한 아두이노 기반 STEAM 수업자료 개발과 적용)

  • The purpose of the study was to develop the Arduino based STEAM instruction materials for creative engineering design class. PDIE model was used in this study. We developed a STEAM lesson plan and a STEAM lesson worksheet for a total of six sessions through the steps of preparation, development, implementation and evaluation. The validity of the instruction materials was evaluated by the 10 experts using a survey. The instruction materials were applied to the class (52 students attended) of the creative engineering designs unit in technology and home economics subject. The class satisfaction and the creative solving-problem ability were examined after the calss. The class satafacition was high as the average of 10 item was 4.57 (out of 5). The paired t-test was conducted to compare the means of the creative solving-problem ability. It was observed that 'understanding and mastery of knowledge, thought, function and skills in a specific domain', 'divergent thinking', 'critical and logical thinking' and ' motivational factors' were significantly increased after the class. The instruction materials develped in this study were successfully designed to enhance the creative solving-problem ability by designing creative tasks and to intrique the interest by adding visual and auditory stimuli with the Arduino.

The Effect on Manifesting Group Creativity by Empathy Level of Students in the Elementary Science Class (초등 과학 수업에서 공감능력에 따른 집단 구성이 학생들의 집단 창의성 발현에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aimed to identify the effects of students' empathy ability on group creativity, when elementary school students perform scientific activity designed to express group creativity. A total of 12 elementary students from a fifth-grade science club participated in this study. A pretest to examine the students' empathic ability was performed to classify them into three groups: A group with high, low and heterogeneous empathic members. The linguistic interaction was analyzed to determine the process of group creativity manifestation; the results were classified into 'metacognitive', 'cognitive', and 'social-communicative'. As a result, groups with high empathic ability showed more frequent interaction in monitoring, planning, and divergent thinking. On the other hand, in the case of the group with low level of empathy, it was confirmed that there are many interactions related to regulation, convergent thinking, and noncohesive prosocial interaction. Also, in the case of heterogeneous group with empathy ability, group creativity utterance on all sides was relatively higher than other groups. As a result of this study, we could confirm the influence of empathy as a strategy to help the group creativity and discuss the educational implications.

The Effects of Reflective Thinking on Verbal Interaction of the Pre-service Teachers in Elementary Science Classes (과학 수업에 대한 반성적 사고가 초등 예비교사의 수업 중 언어적 상호작용에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of reflective thinking on verbal interaction of the pre-service teachers in elementary science classes. Two pre-service teachers were selected for this study and they respectively had gave three science classes. Every science class was recorded by using video/audio but only audio data of first and last science classes were transcribed for verbal interaction analysis. The result of this study revealed that the frequency of teacher's verbal interaction in last science class was increased rather than the case of first science class. The increasing patterns of interaction frequency were affected by the teacher's viewpoint and preparation for the science class. Teacher's verbal interactions were divided into low-level and high-level for the analysis of qualitative change. Low-level interactions are which leading students' convergent thinking, high-level interactions are which leading students' divergent thinking. Also the result of this study revealed that high-level interactions in last science class were increased rather than in first class. On the other hand, low-level interactions in last class were reduced rather than in first class. Therefore, this results implied that the effects of reflective thinking on verbal interaction of pre-service teachers in elementary science classes were appeared, but the effects were also affected by teacher's individual characteristics. Especially the changing degrees of qualitative interactions varies with the teacher's viewpoint and preparation for the science class.

Development of the Middle School Science Curriculum to Enhance Creative Problem-Solving Abilities (창의적 문제 해결력 신장을 위한 중학교 과학 교육과정 개발)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the middle school science curriculum to enhance creative problem-solving abilities. The reconstructed curriculum consisted of three big components, that is, scientific knowledge, process skills, and creative thinking skills. Five themes have been selected to incorporate with four areas of the middle school science curriculum, namely, physics, chemistry, biology, earth science. The five themes are structure, change, interaction, energy, and stability. Based upon these five themes, the individual or separated scientific knowledges of learners can be put into the unified knowledges. The process skills were observing, measuring, classifying, communicating, inferring, predicting, variable differentiating controling, data gathering analysis, establishing hypotheses, experiment design, and experimenting. Creative thinking skills include divergent and critical thinking. The finally developed curriculum is presented in the form of matrix.

Gender Differences Between the Relative Contributions of Variables to Problem Finding in Ill-structured and Moderately Structured Problem Situation (구조화 정도가 다른 문제 상황에서 문제발견에 대한 제 변인의 상대적 기여도에서의 남녀 차이)

  • The 166 elementary school students of this study were divided into four groups by gender and degree of structure in problem situations. Written instruments ascertained intelligence, conceptual knowledge, science process skills, divergent thinking, intrinsic/extrinsic motivation, personality traits, and home environment. Results were that male students scored higher on problem finding in the ill-structured than in the moderately structured problem situation. In the ill-structured problem situation, personality traits, conceptual knowledge, and intrinsic motivation contributed to the scores of male students and home environment and conceptual knowledge contributed to the scores of female students. In the moderately structured problem situation, personality traits and intrinsic motivation contributed to the scores of all students, but science process skills contributed to the scores of female students only.

The Effects of Discussion on College Students' Communication Capability, Problem-solving Capability and Leadership in a General Education Course (대학교양에서 토의식 수업이 대학생의 의사소통능력, 문제해결력, 지도력에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of small-group discussion and panel discussion as teaching and learning methods on college students' competencies of communication, problem-solving and leadership in a general education course. Participants were 52 college students, and they participated in the 13-session lessons. The data from questionnaires collected before and/or after the experiment were analyzed using a paired t-test and percent. The results were as follows. First, each 'total' competency in communication, problem-solving and leadership was increased statistically significant after the experiment. Second, in subdomains of each key competency, 'directed communication' and 'understanding the perspective of others' in communication, and 'divergent thinking', 'decision-making' and 'assessment' subdomains in problem-solving, and all subdomains in leadership were increased statistically significant after the experiment. Based on the results and students' opinions about discussions, the education implications for small-group discussion and panel discussion were discussed.

라인 드로잉에 의한 디자인 조형능력의 측정실험

  • The most remarkable and characteristic problem of design is that of creativity of design. Originality is a part of creativity. In the process of designing, we used to handle design thoughts that shows some patte군 of divergent and productive thoughts. During design thinking, for example 'Idea sketch', We also are under Pattern Recognition and Gestalt principles organization. In this study, it is reorganized that the 'Originality Test of Line Drawing(OTLD)'is a measurement system for personal originality. There is a regression on two tests of OTLD, which has 1 Semester Interval. From the regression data, Test2 = 7.763 + 0.643Test1, F value : 55.219, Prob : 0.0001. We would suggest a measurement system for an ability of originality in design fields, but we couldn't find any reliability and validity for Fine Art fields. In this point, OTLD could be a development tool for design creativity.

An Effective Teaching Method for the Centroid of Triangle in Middle School Mathematics (중학교 삼각형의 무게중심 단원에 대한 효과적인 지도 방안)

  • Since the center of mass of mathematics curriculum in middle school is dealt with only on triangle and it is defined as just an intersection point of median lines without any physical experiments, students sometimes have misconception of the centroid as well as it is difficult to promote divergent thinking that enables students to think the centroids of various figures. To overcome these problems and to instruct effectively the centroid unit in middle school mathematics classroom, this study suggests a teaching and learning method for the unit which uses physical experiments, drawing, and calculation methods sequentially based on the investigation of students' understanding on the centroid of triangle and the analysis of the mathematics textbooks.
