  • At present, the development of a detection device in order to prevent accidents due to wire deterioration in the distribution lines is required. Distribution line is not possible to check the internal state in a normal way because it is covered with the coating. Accordingly, various eddy current techniques that is the non-destructive test (NDT) techniques have been applied to solve this problem. In this paper, we have seen examining the characteristic change of the eddy current sensor according to the simplified shape of the sensor in order to solve the problems for the simplified shape that is generated when the simulation for the shape of the eddy current sensor.

  • In brake systems, a proportioning valve(P. V), which reduces the brake line pressure on each wheel cylinder for the anti-locking of rear wheels, is closely related to the safety of vehicles. However, it is impossible for current P. V. s to completely control brake line pressure because, mechanically, it is an open loop control system. In this paper we describe an electronic brake force distribution system using a direct adaptive fuzzy controller in order to completely control brake line pressure using a closed loop control system. The objective of the electronic brake force distribution system is to change the cut-in-pressure and the valve slop of the P. V in order to obtain better performance of the brake system than with mechanical systems.

  • In this study, the basic theory of geomagnetism was introduced and the field data of first order magnetic survey was analyzed to determine geographical distribution of magnetic elements such as Declination(D), Inclination(1), Horizontal Component(H), Vertical Component(Z) and Total Force(F). From this distribution equations, the distribution of geomagnetism of Korean peninsula was examined and the declination was calculated for National Base Maps.

  • THM models have been developed in several researchers in order to better understand and manage the presence of THM in water distribution system. Several developed models were demonstrated in this study for estimating THM concentrations in target water distribution system. In order to investigate the performance of developed THM models, lab and field test were investigated. Predicted THM concentrations by all kind of models were showed good correlation with observed values. When the developed models were compared with lab and field test, the Rodriguez model during tested models was most predictive than the other models.

  • This paper present a variety fault problem brought out with the multifunctional Battery Energy Storage System [MBESS] expected to be practical in the short future interconnected to power distribution system. Multifunctional BESS model and interconnection model to power system is simply configured, the problems of protection coordination and operation is studied. A line fault in the power distribution system are discussed such as line to ground and three phase fault in order to show the impact on power utilities, demand-side and BESS-side. In order to simulate a variable transient phenomenon due to 2 the BESS interconnection operation to power distribution system, in this paper, PSCAD/EMTDC simulation tools is used.

  • In this study, analysis of steel fiber orientation and distribution inside fiber reinforced concrete was performed using micro-CT scanning technology. Samples were extracted from the column according to its height and distance from the mold. Samples were scanned in order to attain the image of steel fibers then region of interest were obtained by binarization process. By calculating the principle moment of inertia of each fiber, direction vector, scale, center postion, volume, and surface area were gained in order to analyze the orientation and distribution. Most of the fibers inside the column tended to be perpendicular to the main axis of the column. Moreover, most of the fibers appeared at the bottom of the column and at the position where it is farthest from the mold.

  • The water status of the leaves of several evergreen plants was investigated in order to discuss the geopgraphical distribution of them. Relastionship between relative water content and water potential of the leaves showed linear decrease for evergreen conifers but exponential decrease for Korean box tree (Buxus microphylla var. koreana). On the basis of the leaf water potential, the water status of the conifers during wintering was distinctly divided into three periods; hardening, cold resistance and dehardening, but lacking in those periods for the Korean box tree, where the status continously decreased. In the cold resistance the leaf water potentials were -23 bar for both spruce (Picea jezoensis) and yew (Taxus cuspidata). From these results and threshold temperature at beginning of hardening, distribution of the conifers was explained that in order of the red pine, the Korean white pine, the yew and the spruce the distribution could be extended at higher altitudes and in more northward areas, whereas the distribution of the Korean box tree was restricted to the lowland of temperate zone.

  • With increasing traffic volumes and rising vehicle traffic, especially in cities, the number of pedestrian bridges has also increased significantly. Like all other structures, pedestrian bridges also suffer damage. In order to increase the safety of pedestrians, it is necessary to identify existing damage and to repair them to ensure the safety of the bridge structures. Owing to the shortcomings of local methods in identifying damage and in order to enhance the reliability of detection and identification of structural faults, signal methods have seen significant development in recent years. In this research, a new methodology, based on cone-shaped kernel distribution with a new damage index, has been used for damage detection in pedestrian truss bridges. To evaluate the proposed method, the numerical models of the Warren Type steel truss and the Arregar steel footbridge were used. Based on the results, the proposed method and damage index identified the damage and determined its location with a high degree of precision. Given the ease of use, the proposed method can be used to identify faults in pedestrian bridges.

  • For the competitive business environment under purchase dependence, this paper proposes a new approximate calculation of order fill rate which is a probability of satisfying a customer order immediately using the existing inventory. Purchase dependence is different to demand dependence. Purchase dependence treats the purchase behavior of customers, while demand dependence considers demand correlation between items, between regions, or over time. Purchase dependence can be observed in such areas as marketing, manufacturing systems, and distribution systems. Traditional computational methods have a difficulty of the curse of dimensionality for the large cases, when deriving the stationary joint distribution which is utilized to calculate the order fill rate. In order to escape the curse of dimensionality and protect the solution from diverging for the large cases, we develop a greedy iterative search algorithm based on the Gauss-Seidel method. We show that the greedy iterative search algorithm is a dependable algorithm to derive the stationary joint distribution of on-hand inventories in the retailer system by conducting a comparison analysis of a greedy iterative search algorithm with the simulation. In addition, we present some managerial insights such as : (1) The upper bound of order fill rate can be calculated by the one-item pure system, while the lower bound can be provided by the pure system that consists of all items; (2) As the degree of purchase dependence declines while other conditions remain same, it is observed that the difference between the lower and upper bounds reduces, the order fill rate increases, and the order fill rate gets closer to the upper bound.

  • This paper presents the effects of corrosion environments of failure pressure model for buried pipelines on failure prediction by using a failure probability. The FORM (first order reliability method) is used in order to estimate the failure probability in the buried pipelines with corrosion defects. The effects of varying distribution types of random variables such as normal, lognormal and Weibull distributions on the failure probability of buried pipelines are systematically investigated. It is found that the failure probability for the MB31G model is larger than that for the B31G model. And the failure probability is estimated as the largest for the Weibull distribution and the smallest for the normal distribution. The effect of data scattering in corrosion environments on failure probability is also investigated and it is recognized that the scattering of wall thickness and yield strength of pipeline affects the failure probability significantly. The normalized margin is defined and estimated. Furthermore, the normalized margin is used to predict the failure probability using the fitting lines between failure probability and normalized margin.
