Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a digital group reminiscence program on elderly patients with mild dementia who were registered with Day Care Centers. Methods: The study was conducted with elderly patients with mild dementia in Day Care Centers in D city. The patients were randomly assigned to either the experimental group or the control group and were assessed for cognitive function, depression, and ego integrity using pre-test and post-test designs. A digital group reminiscence program was applied to the experimental group. Data was collected from July 5 to September 17, 2021, using questionnaires in three sessions. Results: The pre-test cognitive function score was 12.00 in the experimental group and 11.09 in the control group. The post-test cognitive function score was 19.20 in the experimental group and 14.42 in the control group. The later cognitive function score was 18.00 in the experimental group and 13.31 in the control group. The pre-test depression score was 8.32 in the experimental group and 9.91 in the control group. The post-test depression score was 6.05 in the experimental group and 8.82 in the control group. The later depression score was 6.94 in the experimental group and 9.02 in the control group. The pre-test ego integrity score was 41.39 in the experimental group and 39.55 in the control group. The post-test ego integrity score was 57.95 in the experimental group and 51.41 in the control group. The later ego integrity score was 55.88 in the experimental group and 42.15 in the control group. Cognitive function, depression, and ego integrity showed significant differences according to group (p<.05), time (p<.001), and interaction between group and time (p<.01). Conclusion: The digital group reminiscence program was found to be effective in improving cognitive function and ego integrity and reducing depression in elderly patients with mild dementia. Further research is needed to explore the effects of repetitive digital group recall programs based on the progress, course, age, and communication level of dementia.
There are not that many m-health related services limited to the elderly. Many of the elderly who are at risk of dementia are unfamiliar to smart devices, so it is required to design an user-customized App. Therefore, I design and embody a mobile voice alert integrated app, which enables voice input to increase the accessibility of the elderly, so as to prevent diseases caused by declined cognitive function such as dementia. I conducted interviews and questionnaire after having the students use the app in Lifelong Education Center in H region of Gyeongbuk, and the analysis result has showed the high satisfaction. It is expected that it will be able to play a key role for M-Health service for the elderly since it is possible to prevent dementia through the voice health care alert app. I would like to learn deep learning in the future to predict the life patterns and the possibility of dementia of the elderly.
Background and Objectives: The prevalence of dementia is steadily increasing each year, and preceding studies continue to explore the association between dementia and oral health. Dental hygienists require specialized competencies to provide appropriate dental healthcare services, necessitating the development of a tool for the objective measurement of their knowledge levels. This study aimed to develop a knowledge assessment tool for dental hygienists concerning considerations for dental care for patients with dementia. Methods: The study constructed preliminary items based on a literature review and then conducted expert validation, a pilot survey, and the main survey. The main survey was conducted among 220 dental hygienists. Validity and reliability analyses were conducted with the collected data to select the final items, and the correctness rates for each selected item were verified. Results: As a result of the analysis of the collected data, 18 items were eliminated out of a total of 40 preliminary items, leaving a total of 6 factors and 22 items. The Cronbach's α value for the selected items was 0.791. The six factors are as follows: 'Considerations during dental treatment for dementia patients' (5 items), 'medication side effects in dementia patients' (4 items), 'oral care methods for dementia patients' (4 items), 'communication with dementia patients' (4 items), 'psychological reactions of dementia patients' (3 items), and 'guidance for dementia patients' (2 items). The item with the highest correctness rate was item 2 of the 'guidance for dementia patients' category at 98.6%, while the item with the lowest correctness rate was item 2 of the 'psychological reactions of dementia patients' category at 5.9%. Conclusion: This study validated the reliability and validity of the knowledge assessment tool, which lays the foundation for future research on dental hygienists and dementia. It contributes essential data for ongoing education, development of educational programs, and establishing operational guidelines in healthcare institutions.
As the incidence and prevalence of dementia increases with our aging population, so does the social burden on our society, which calls for a special emphasis on need for early diagnosis. Thus, efforts are made to prevent dementia and early detection but with current diagnostic measures, these efforts appear futile. As a solution, it is crucial to integrate and standardize healthcare big data and analysis of each index. In order to increase use of large database, the Korea National Assembly passed the Data 3 Act focusing on open-access and sharing of database, but a follow-up legislation is needed a for safer utilization. In this study, we have identified number of foreign of foreign policies through review of prior researches on the topic leading to specific enforcement ordinances tailored to the Data 3 Act for safe access and utilization of database. We also aimed to establish secure process of data collection and disposal as well as governance at the national level to ensure safe utilization of healthcare big data.
The purpose of this study is to identify the tendency of media reports on the dementia management policy in Korea and to suggest policy implications such as prevention of dementia, improvement of awareness, and management of dementia through network analysis. We analyzed the linkage structure between the main texts centered on the number of citations of the main language related to the dementia management policy and the centrality and mediation as the research procedures and methods. As a result of the analysis, first, a 'micro' perspective is needed to explain practically. Second, it is desirable to understand the dementia management policy in the context of community. Third, the network structure of key words such as 'dementia management policy' suggests the possibility of research study in academic research in future research. Therefore, the phenomenon of dementia management policy will contribute to the direction of future dementia management policy, not local or temporary.
This research is a descriptive study that aimed to identify the knowledge and attitude of dementia, empathy, and social distance from elderly with dementia of social welfare students and the effect these had on their social distance from elderly with dementia. This study was conducted by collecting 191 social welfare students in three universities in C and D cities. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, ANOVA, t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficients and multiple regression with the SPSS 23.0 program. The average social distance from elderly with dementia was 3.40 points. The social distance from elderly with dementia of the study participants showed a positive correlation between the attitude of dementia(r=.47, p=.001) and empathy(r= .27, p<.001). According to the results of multiple regression analysis, attitude of dementia(β=.21, p=.001), and empathy(β=.37, p<.001) were shown to be significant factors that affected the social distance from elderly with dementia. These variables explained 36.5%. Therefore, an education program to improve the ocial distance from elderly with dementia of social welfare students should be considered as a way to enhance positive attitude of dementia and empathy.

As the aging society is accelerated, the population with dementia grows significantly faster. Because there is no complete cure of dementia, it is of great importance to detect the disease at a very early stage and prevent its fast aggravation through evaluation of MCI(Mild Cognitive Impairment) which happens before dementia. The current assessment of MCI conducts only in the form of hand-written data and by 1:1 face to face communication between the subjects and the examiners. Due to this, both examiners' fatigue rate and evaluation error rate increase. Further, there are some limitations in utilizing and analyzing data collected. Against the problems, therefore, there is a need to develop a computerized system by which MCI is assessed, and the results are saved and analyzed. This paper presents the development of such a system enabling MCI evaluation, its related data collection and analysis.
The purpose of this study was to develop a cognitive rehabilitation program based on the cognitive activities of the elderly with mild dementia using the weekly care facilities in Daegu city memory and to provide useful welfare services for the elderly with mild dementia. In Korea, there is not much development of community-based integrated intervention program for demented patients who are still in the present situation. The results of this study suggest that the cognitive rehabilitation program for the elderly with mild dementia is suitable to be applied as a group in the case of community based protective editorials and may be a basis for management of mild dementia patients. It seems that there may be differences in the appropriate intervention methods and effects. Therefore, it is expected that the individualized customized strategy will maximize the effect. Therefore, more specific and individualized nursing intervention program should be concurrently developed.
Recently, with the population growth of elderly people, concerns about oral health related to the quality of life of the elderly are increasing. The purpose of this study is to assess the association between the elderly women divided into dementia, suspected dementia, healthy groups and the remaining teeth of them. Total 177 elderly women of over 60 years old, visiting on senior center in some community dwelling, were assessed for oral condition and their cognitive function with MMSE score. All the collected data were analyzed by chi-square test, t-test, and multiful logistic regression using SPSS. Multiful logistic regression was used to analyze the relationship of dementia according to MMSE score and remaining teeth, and 95% confidence intervals were computed. Odds ratio(OR) of the number of remaining teeth 0-10 was 3.43 (95% confidence interval: 1.382-8.997). This study showed significant difference and the relationship between dementia according to MMSE score and the number of remaining teeth of the elderly women.
The purpose of this study was to provide the customized-service program for the family of dementia patients as an family-function reinforcement program. This study was designed to develop the therapeutic recreation program for the family supporting senior with dementia. The therapeutic program consisted of assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation. This study found the followings. First, this study shows the possibility of implication of the therapeutic recreation for the family supporting senior with dementia. Second, the therapeutic recreation program has a strong theoretical background. Third, the therapeutic recreation program has the clear goal, performing activity, intervention strategy. The therapeutic recreation program for the family supporting senior with dementia that this study provides would be valuable basic data for future studies.
