  • This paper deals with a method to measure the thickness of scale-layer, iron oxide formed on the surface of the rolling steel, using a dielectric lens antenna. The dielectric lens antenna has an independent characteristic with the frequency in the X-band and changes the spherical wave radiated from a horn antenna into a plane wave at the focusing point. Using this concept, we regard a scale-layer on the rolling steel as a dielectric-PEC(Perfect Electric Conductor) layer and apply a theoretical analysis of the normal-incident plane wave. To reduce the phase error arising from the use of the dielectric lens antenna, this paper utilizes a regression process algorithm. In comparison with the conventional iteration algorithm, the present algorithm led to a unique solution for the thickness of the scale-layer.

  • In the scattering of a monochromatic plane wave from a dielectric column oscillating sinusoidally prependicular to its axis, one could assume that the boundary moves with a uniform velocity equal to its instantaneous oscilaating velocity. The scattered fields are abtained according to the postulates of special relativitiy and extended for the osdillating period. The angle distribution of average scattering radiation, the average of total scattering cross sections and radar cross sections for a period are illustrated as the function of the relative maximum oscillating velocity and the incident angles of plane waves.

  • $SF_6$ gas has been widely used the gas insulated transmission line, gas insulated transformer and gas insulated substation and Polyester film used as the turn insulation with other material. $SF_6$ gas has been actively studied in domestic and foreign countries. In general, when dielectric surface electric field exceed any electric field strength on air, corona discharge is occurred from the dielectric surface. This paper presents the insulation strength of turn insulation of $SF_6$-PET film studied under application of AC voltage, constitute of the plane to plane with PET Film. The results obtained in experimental are summarized that Partial Discharge Initial Voltage(PDIV) of turn insulation depend on gas pressure, but Breakdown Voltage(BDV) did not depend on gas pressure.

  • The scattering problem of a transverse electric (TE) plane wave by strip grating with a dielectric slab over a ground plane is analyzed by the method of moments. By use of equivalence principle, surface magnetic current density on the shorted slot is expanded in a series of Chebyshev polynomial a satisfying the appropriate edge condition. Numerical results for reflection coefficient are obtained and compared with other available results. Our numerical results obtained from the present method are in good agreement with other result available in the literature.

  • We have investigated the dielectric characteristics of palmitic acid(PA), stearic acid (SA) and arachidic acid(AA) Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) films because these fatty acid systems have a same hydrophilic group and a different hydrophobic one (alkyl chain length). In this work. fatty acid systems were used as LB films and the status of the deposited films was confirmed by evaluating the transfer ratio. the UV absorption and the capacitance. Also, the dielectric characteristics such as the frequency-capacitance characteristics and the dielectric dispersion and absorption characteristics of PA, SA and AA through-plane were measured. The relative dielectric constants of PA, SA and AA LB films were about $2.6\sim4.6$, $2.4\sim4.1$ and $2.2\sim3.8$, respectively. That is, the relative dielectric constants were decreased in proportion to the chain length of methylene group. And, the dielectric dispersion and absorption of each fatty acid LB films have arisen from spontaneous polarization of dipole polarization in the range of $10^4\sim10^5[Hz]$.

  • The conventional in-plane field driven-vertical alignment display (VA-IPS) shows fast response time but transmittance shows very low and operating voltage is very high. In this paper, we studies electro-optical properties of the novel in-plane field driven vertical alignment device which has two transistors on array part and common electrode on CF substrate with dielectric layer. The device shows fast response time and high transmittance.

  • This paper shows a basic data of the surface discharge characteristics for epoxy resin in Dry-Air as being focused on environmentally friendly insulating Gas. Used electrodes are needle to plane, sphere to plane and KS M3015 electrodes. With the changing electrodes in same condition, we can obtain different creeping lengths, surface discharge voltages and surface dielectric strengths, respectively. Surface dielectric strengths of Needle to plane electrodes are more higher than the others. Moreover, it is considered that the surface discharge characteristics with variation of epoxy resin thickness and diameter. Surface discharge voltage increases as the thickness and the diameter of epoxy resin.

  • This study presents a new, simple method for improving the front-to-back (F/B) ratio of a microstrip patch antenna. The back radiation of the microstrip patch antenna is reduced by removing some metallic parts around the ground plane and placing a new soft-surface configuration, consisting of an array of stand-up split-ring resonators on a bare dielectric substrate near the two ground plane edges. Compared to the F/B ratio of a conventional microstrip patch antenna with a full ground plane of the same size, our proposed microstrip patch antenna experimentally achieves an improved F/B ratio of 9.6 dB.

  • A complete form of physical optics solution to the diffraction of electromagnetic waves by a dielectric wedge with arbitrary dielectric constant and general wedge angle is obtained for an incident plane wave with any angle. Based on the formulation of dual integral equation in the spectral domain, the physical optics solution is constructed by sum of geometrical optics term including multiple reflection inside the wedge and the edge diffracted field, of which diffraction functions are represented in a quite simple form as series of cotangent functions weighted by the Fresnel reflection coefficients. Since diffraction patterns of physical optics are discontinous at dielectric interfaces, Part II and III of these three companion papers will be concerned with correction to the error of the physical optics approximation.
