  • The main purposes of this paper are to determine the major factors influencing visual preference in soundproofing barriers in urban places and to provide the essential information needed in the design process of soundproofing harriers. This paper consists of two phases. The first phase presents photos of the seven types of soundproofing barriers generally seen around the Daejeon area, which were taken from three places for a photo montage. The evaluation of 21 different soundproofing barriers was conducted by college students. The second phase of this paper depicts the analysis process. Firstly, the visual preferences as found from the collected data were evaluated by five semantic degrees. The evaluated data were processed by descriptive test, a correlation test and ANOVA test methods using an SPSS statistical package. 1. Currently, visual preference in soundproofing barriers is low in urban places. Therefore, it is necessary to design visually pleasing soundproofing barriers to improve the visual qualify of urban areas. 2. Soundproofing barriers of mixed wood and acrylic scored the highest among selections while those with aluminium steel scored the lowest. 3. Environmental friendly and transparent conditions should be met to allow soundproofing barriers to be visually pleasing.

  • Research on decreasing the weight of composite sandwich panels is in progress. This paper reports the experimental results for the mechanical behavior of a composite sandwich panel. The skins of sandwich panels were made of glass fiber sheets and plywood matrix composites. Their interior layers consisted of glass fiber pultrusion pipes and gold foam. Experimental tests were performed to obtain the mechanical properties and complex mechanical behavior. Before fatigue tests, tensile tests and 3-point bending tests were carried out to obtain the optimal design and determine their strength and failure mechanisms in the flat-wise position. After the static test, a fatigue test were conducted at a load frequency of 5 Hz, stress ratio (R) of 0.1, and endurance limit for the S-N curve. It showed that the failure modes were related to both the core design and skin failure.

  • Knowledge of ground thermal properties is most important for the proper design of large BHE(borehole heat exchanger) systems. Thermal response tests with mobile measurement devices were first introduced in Sweden and USA in 1995. Thermal response tests have so far been used primarily for in insitu determination of design data for BHE systems, but also for evaluation of grout material, heat exchanger types and ground water effects. The main purpose has been to determine insitu values of effective ground thermal conductivity, including the effect of ground-water flow and natural convection in the boreholes. Test rig is set up on a small trailer, and contains a circulation pump, a heater, temperature sensors and a data logger for recording the temperature data. A constant heat power is injected into the borehole through the pipe system of test rig and the resulting temperature change in the borehole is recorded. The recorded temperature data are analysed with a line-source model, which gives the effective insitu values of rock thermal conductivity and borehole thermal resistance.

  • A water-flow test for acceptance verification is carried out for a nonimpinging-type injector prior to the design-performance verification of hydrazine thruster under development. The injector used in the experiment is to be equipped on the hydrazine thruster producing 70 N of nominal thrust at an inlet pressure of 24.6 $kg_f/cm^2$. It is observed that there exist varying characteristics of atomization among the injector-nozzle orifices caused by a fabrication error which can be judged from a microscopic standpoint. On the other hand, all of the injector orifices are placed within the design criteria in an injection-angle performance.

  • Antilock Brake System (ABS) is designed to prevent wheels from being locked-up under emergency braking of a vehicle. Therefore it improves directional stability of the vehicle, shortens stopping distance, and enhances maneuvering during braking, regardless of road conditions. Hardware In-the-Loop Simulation (HILS) is an effective tool for design Performance evaluation and test of vehicle subsystems such as ABS, active suspension, and steering systems. This paper describes a HILS model for ABS/ ASR(Acceleration Slip Regulation) system applications. A fourteen degrees-of-freedom vehicle dynamics model is simulated in an alpha-chip processor board. The proposed HILS system is tested with a basic ABS control algorithm. The design and implementation of HILS system for the ABS ECU(Electronic Control Unit) development of commercial vehicle are presented. The results show that the proposed HILS system can be used to test the performance, stability, and reliability of a vehicle under braking.

  • The mechanical property of a carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) is subjected to two elements, carbon fiber and polymer resin, in a first step and the selection of multi-layered structure is second one. Many combination of fabric layers, i.e. plainweave, twillweave, can be derived for candidates of test specimen used for a basic mechanical components so that a reliable identification of dynamic nature of possible multi-layered structures are essential during the development of CFRP based component system. In this paper, three kinds of multi-layered structure specimens were prepared and the dynamic characteristics of service specimens were conducted through classical modal test process with impact hammer. In addition, the design sensitivity analysis based on transmissibility function was applied for the measured response data so that the response sensitivity for each resonance frequency were compared for three CFRP test specimens. Finally, the evaluation of CFRP specimen over different multi-layered fabric structures are commented from the experimental consequences.

  • For the vioequivalence study of two ceftriaxone injection formulations ($Rocephin{\circledR}$ ; Roche, and Triaxone ; Hanmi0, the HPLC analytical method for the analysis of ceftriaxone in plasma was used. Fourteen healthy volunteers completed the study and each subject were IM in jected signle doses (1 g) of the test and the reference formulations in a two-way crossover design with an one week drug free interval between doses. Following each administration, plasma concentrations of ceftrixone were monitored over a period of 24 h. Bioequivalence parameters $AUC_{24th}, {\;}T_{max}, {\;}C_{max}$ and MRT determined from the data obtained for the two formulations were examined by analyses of variance (ANOVA) and other criteria and tests for bioequivalence. Results of ANOVA and confidence limits of test/reference ratios of $AUC_{24th}, {\;}T_{max}, {\;}C_{max}$ and MRT, and statistical tests indicated the bioequivalence of the two formulations (i.e., test/reference ratio was within $100{\pm}20%$) except for $T_{max}$ The mean of $T_{max}$ showed only 6. 9% difference from the reference but the detection limit was 22.5% which is slightly over the 20% criteria. No pharmacokinetic parameters including Ka, Kel, Vd and Cl indicated significant difference in between the two fomulations. It was concluded that the data yielded fro the two cefriaxone formulations demonstrated that they were bioequivalent.

  • Even though two different preparations are chemically equivalent, the variance of bioavailability differenciates the clinical effect of preparations, so that the preparations need to be evaluated by comparing bioavailability in vivo as well as chemical equivalence. In this study, bioequivalence tests of commercially available isoniazid tablets A, B, C and D (standard) were performed to give some guidelines to bioequivalence test. The bioavailability parameters obtained by drug administeration were statistically analyzed. Statistical evaluation of the data involved an analysis of variance for a cross over design. Cross over design was employed with 8 healthy volunteers. The results were within 20% difference of mean value in the AUC, Cmax, Tmax and amount of urinary excretion (Au) between standard and isoniazid tablets. The results of ANOVA showed no significant differences for 'group or sequence', but almost not for 'between subjects'. The tablet. A, B and D were within 20 min, but tablet C was within 50 min. Tablet A was biologically equivalent in the Au. tablet B biologically equivalent in the Au and AUC. Tablet C was biologically equivalent in the Au. The relationship between the dissolution rate and Au was significant.
