Construction of high-rise precast concrete apartment is an atractive alternative solution for severe shortage of residential facilities, especially in metropolitan areas in Korea. New building regulations enforced since 1988 requires all buildings higher than 6 storeys to be designed for earthquake. However, we hardly have any experience on seismic design of precast concrete buildings. This paper deals with methodology of seismic design and design considerations of connections for the large panel structures. Also addressed in this paper are studies needed to develop proper seismic design procedures of precast concrete buildings.

To help machine designers to make precise design of large permanent magnet (PM) machines, this paper presents a set of design considerations that are very often ignored by machine designers. These considerations are categorized into several aspects: electromagnetic (EM) performance, losses and efficiency, fault and stability, and some other issues. The effects of various practical factors are presented and some corresponding design methods are introduced.

Recently, the importance of livestock statistics is increasing because of the food consumption pattern in Korea is changing. We compare the old sample design based on the 1995 National Agriculture Census with the new sample design based on the 2000 National Agriculture Census. We present some considerations to improve the efficiency of the sample design in livestock sector survey.

In this paper, we proposed the novel device and process design to enhance the uniformity of low-temperature poly-Si TFTs fabricated by sequential lateral solidification (SLS). The proposed design schemes can avert the conventional two-shot SLS process-induced issues. Moreover, different design considerations between conventional excimer laser crystallization and the SLS process were also proposed and discussed.

The current building structural standards present design requirements for the vertical construction joint of a slurry wall when it is used as a permanent wall. This paper proposes design methods and considerations according to the requirements of the relevant standards.

Purpose: This study aims to analyze design guidelines for hospice facilities in the US, UK, and Canada focused on design considerations and space requirements, and utilizes them as baseline data for establishing standards for Korean hospice facilities. Methods: Comparative review was carried out to investigate hospice care models, design consideration, and room sizes and requirements for design guideline of hospice facilities in United States, UK and Canada identified on electronic database and review articles, and to examine major characteristics and tendencies of hospice facilities. Results: The hospice care models characteristics in design guidelines is generally largely divided into hospital-based hospice facility, Nursing home-based hospice facility, and daycare hospice. The design considerations in hospice facilities focused on medical efficiency, flexibility, barrier-free environment, person-centered care, and stability. There is also a need for single resident room, rooms for the patient's family, and isolation room for infection control. Implications: it is recommended to establish standards for the installation and operation of required and recommended rooms and considerations when establishing the standards of hospice facilities in Korea. This Study is limited to a simple comparative analysis of the framework of guideline.

This paper describes on the design considerations and analysis of moving primary-type linear induction motor for automatic conveyer system. For the study of the designed motor characteristics, calculated values obtained from the analysis using finite element method for various operation conditions are compared with the experimental results. Using the combined interactions of the thrust, the arigap flux density, and the reactive power at standstill as performance criteria, a proper ratio of the pole pitch to the effective airgap is presented for the design criterion.

For lower power and smaller size with higher image quality, it is desirable to have more units integrated on a display panel. It needs careful design considerations in selecting CMOS, SOP or PCB. An experimental display system is designed and power and delay considering chip area, data rates and bus width are analyzed for all technology combinations to obtain optimum design methodologies.

Busan's Haeundae Resort project, which is currently being constructed by POSCO E&C, comprises the 101-story Landmark Tower and two 85-story residential towers. Presently, foundation and basement construction is complete, with a final completion date set for 2019. Considerations about the construction and design of the three reinforced concrete high-rise buildings will be discussed in this paper.

A glass cockpit is an aircraft cockpit that features electronic (digital) instrument displays, typically large LCD screens, rather than the traditional style of analog dials and gauges. While a traditional cockpit relies on numerous mechanical gauges to display information, a glass cockpit uses several displays driven by flight management systems, that can be adjusted to display flight information as needed. This study introduces design considerations of electronic display in KAS Part 23 airplanes.
