Incident wave angles are conventionally estimated by the directional spectrum analysis of wave data collected from in-situ sensors. The in-situ measurements are limited in monitoring incident wave angles in the wide surf zone, since the techniques are typically expensive, labor-intensive, and point-measuring. In this study, estimation of incident wave angles using wave crest features captured in digital video imagery is proposed to observe incident wave directions over the surf zone. Line signatures of wave crests having high image pixel intensities are extracted by moving an interrogation window to identify high intensity pixels in sequential video images. Wave angles are computed by taking the first derivative of the extracted crest signatures, i.e. local slope of the crest signatures in the two-dimensional physical plane. Compared to the wave angle estimates obtained by the directional spectrum analysis, video-based wave angle estimates show good agreements in general.

NIR spectroscopic analysis was used for the measurement of deproteinization and deacetylation to apply the merits of NIR spectroscopic analysis to the quality management in the process of chitin and chitosan production. In measuring squid pen and red snow crab shell, which are raw materials of chitin and chitosan by NIR there were typical peaks in 1200 nm, 1510 nm, 2050 nm and 2180 nm. Squid pen had somewhat higher peak than red snow crab shell. In producing chitin, amount of protein was decreased. Measuring it by NIR, reduction of protein caused by deproteinization was identified in producing chitin. Chitosan is a derivative material made from chitin by processing the deacetylation. During this processing, acetyl groups were removed and amide bends were appeared. From NIR spectra, peaks at 1530 nm and 2030 nm indicated amide II peak of chitosan, and these peaks were used for identifying the differences of structure between chitin and chitosan. The error in measurement of nonidentified sample was below $1\%$ and the error in the standard curve was below 0.006. These errors were very low and the accuracy of NIR was considered to be superior to the existing methods.

The chloromethyl-2-dihydroxyphosphinyl-6,7-dimethoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro- isoquinoline (CDDT) is a newly synthesized derivative from 1,2,3,4-Tetra- hydroisoquinoline (THIQ). The THIQs include potent cytotoxic agents that display a range of antitumor activities, antimicrobial activity, and other biological properties. In this study, we investigated the effect of CDDT on the cytotoxicity, induction of apoptosis in human promyelocytic leukemia cells (HL-60 cells). CDDT showed a significant cytotoxic activity in HL-60 cells ($IC_{50}$ = approximately $37\;{\mu}g/ml$) at a 24 hr incubation. Treatment of HL-60 cells with CDDT displayed several features of apoptosis, including formation of DNA ladders in agarose gel electrophoresis, morphological changes of HL-60 cells with DAPI stain. Here we observed that CDDT caused activation of caspase-3, caspase-8, and caspase-9. The most efficacious time on the activation of caspases-3 was achieved at 12 hr. Further molecular analysis demonstrated that CDDT led to cleavage of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP), increase of hypodiploid (Sub-G1) population in the flow cytometric analysis. In conclusion, these above results indicate that CDDT dramatically suppresses HL-60 cell growth by activation of caspase-3 with caspase-8, -9 activity. These data may support a pivotal mechanism for the use of CDDT in the prevention and treatment of leukemia.
We report the surface photovoltage (SPV) properties of $In_{0.49}Ga_{0.51}P$/GaAs heterostructure grown by metal-organic chemical vapour deposition (MOCVD). The SPV measurements were studied as a function of modulation beam intensity, modulation frequency and temperature. From a line shape analysis of room temperature derivative surface photovoltage (DSPV) spectrum, the band gap energies for GaAs and $In_{0.49}Ga_{0.51}P$ transitions were 1.400 and 1.893 eV respectively. The surface photovoltage (SPV) increases with increasing the light intensity and temperature, whereas the SPV decreases with increasing the modulation frequency. From the temperature variation of the energy gaps, we have analysis by both Varshni and Bose-Einstein type expressions.
The thermal degradation characteristics of high molecular components obtained from pyrolysis of mixed waste plastics have been studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and gas chromatography spectrometry (GC-MS). The kinetics of thermal degradation has been studied by a conventional nonisothermal thermogravimetric technique at several heating rates between 10 and $50^{\circ}C/min$. The dynamic thermogravimetric analysis curve and its derivative have been analyzed using a variety of analytical methods reported in the literature to obtain information on the kinetic parameters such as activation energies and reaction orders. The yields of liquid products have been monitored by batch pyrolysis reactor under various reaction temperatures and reaction times. And the characteristic of liquid products with the increase in reaction temperature has been performed by GC-MS.

A computer program that can estimate static, dynamic stability and control derivatives using a subsonic-supersonic panel method is developed. The panel method uses subsonic-supersonic source and elementary horse shoe vortex distributions, and their strengths are determined by solving the boundary condition approximated with a thin body assumption. In addition, quasi-steady analysis on the body fixed coordinate system allows the estimation of damping coefficients of aircraft 3 axes. The code is validated by comparing the neutral point, roll and pitch damping of delta wings with published analysis results. Finally, the static, dynamic stability and control derivatives of F-18 are compared with experimental data as well as other numerical results to show the accuracy and the usefulness of the code.
Purpose: Patients with unresectable, relapsed, or refractory osteosarcoma need a novel therapeutic agent. Metformin is a biguanide derivative used in the treatment of type II diabetes, and is recently gaining attention in cancer research. Methods: We evaluated the effect of metformin against human osteosarcoma. Four osteosarcoma cell lines (KHOS/NP, HOS, MG-63, U-2 OS) were treated with metformin and cell proliferation was evaluated using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay. Cell cycle progression and apoptosis were evaluated using flow cytometric analysis, and migration and wound healing assay were performed. Fourteen female Balb/c-nude mice received KHOS/NP cell grafts in their thigh, and were allowed access to metformin containing water (2 mg/mL) ad libitum. Tumor volume was measured every 3-4 days for a period of 4 weeks. Results: Metformin had a significant antiproliferative effect on human osteosarcoma cells. In particular, metformin inhibited the proliferation and migration of KHOS/NP cells by activation of AMP-activated protein kinase and consequent inhibition of the mammalian target of rapamycin pathway. It also inhibited the proliferation of cisplatin-resistant KHOS/NP clone cells. Analysis of KHOS/NP xenograft Balb/c-nude models indicated that metformin displayed potent in vivo antitumor effects. Conclusion: Further studies are necessary to explore metformin's therapeutic potential and the possibilities for its use as an adjuvant agent for osteosarcoma.

Spleen tyrosine kinase (SYK) is a cytosolic non-receptor protein tyrosine kinase. Because SYK mediates key receptor signaling pathways involving the B cell receptor and Fc receptors, SYK is an attractive target for autoimmune disease and cancer treatments. To date, representative oral SYK inhibitors, including fostamatinib (R406 or R788), entospletinib (GS-9973), cerdulatinib (PRT062070), and TAK-659, have been assessed in clinical trials. Here, we report the crystal structures of SYK in complex with two newly developed inhibitors possessing 4-aminopyrido[4,3-D]pyrimidine moieties (SKI-G-618 and SKI-O-85). One SYK inhibitor (SKI-G-618) exhibited moderate inhibitory activity against SYK, whereas the other inhibitor (SKI-O-85) exhibited a low inhibitory profile against SYK. Binding mode analysis indicates that a highly potent SYK inhibitor might be developed by modifying and optimizing the functional groups that interact with Leu377, Gly378, and Val385 in the G-loop and the nearby region in SYK. In agreement with our structural analysis, one of our SYK inhibitor (SKI-G-618) shows strong inhibitory activities on the ${\beta}$-hexosaminidase release and phosphorylation of SYK/Vav in RBL-2H3 cells. Taken together, our findings have important implications for the design of high affinity SYK inhibitors.
A new analytical method was developed by HPLC after supercritical fluid extraction and fluorogenic derivatization for the determination of quinclorac (3,7-dichloro-8-quinoline carboxylic acid) in soil. The graminicide quinclorac was extracted from soil by supercritical fluid extraction. Supercritical carbon dioxide at 7000 psi $(80^{\circ}C)$ modified with 30% of methanol extracted quinclorac from soil samples at the level of $0.1ng\;g^{-1}$ with 96% recovery. Extracted quinclorac was determined by HPLC as a fluorescent derivative. Derivatization was made with 4-bromomethyl-7-methoxycoumarin (4-Br-Mmc) using 18-crown-6-ether as a catalyst. The conversion was completed within 30 min and the limit of detection was 0.5 ppb to prove that the procedure could be used in the residue analysis of the pesticides containing carboxylic acid group.
Optimal analytical conditions have been established for mixing and reaction coil length, concentrations of ECR, CTAB, and acetate, reaction temperature and pH in the determination of aluminum by using flow injection analysis(FIA). Detection limit and repeatability for this system were $3{\mu}g/L$ and better than 1% of relative standard deviation, respectively. The interference from iron(III) was suppressed up to 6mg/L of iron(III) by $0.1{\mu}M$ ascorbic acid, and the interference from fluoride could be tolerated in absorption of Al/ECR/CTAB derivative by 10mM boric acid at pH 3.5 adjusted with nitric acid. This FIA system was applied to the determination of aluminum leached from cooking utensils by distilled and tap water containing fluoride ranged from 0.5 to 2mg/L by measurement of absorbance for Al/ECR/CTAB at 585nm. The leached aluminum content was increased with increasing concentration of fluoride. The aluminum contents leached from aluminum utensils by tap water were about 9 fold higher than those leached by distilled water, whereas aluminum contents leached by distilled water containing fluoride were about 2 fold higher compared to those leached by distilled water. That represented that other dissolved substances as well as fluoride in tap water contributed to liberation of aluminum from aluminum utensils. A comparison between FIA data and ICP-AES data by correlation and paired t test showed that the FIA system could be accepted as a good alternative method for the determination of aluminum in tap water.
