It is well-known fact that dimensional stability of wood is greatly enhanced by acetylation of wood. This dimensional stability results from bulking of the reacted acetate within the cell wall, which reduces further swelling when the modified woods come into contact with water or water vapor. The purpose of this research was to determine the water absorption and dimensional stability of the acetylated solid wood in liquid water and in humidity tests. Beech and red oak were acetylated. Moisture and water absorption of acetylated wood were quite dependent on weight percent gain(WPG). Antiswelling efficiency(ASE) was quite dependent on WPG, but was not dependent on species.

A one dimensional time dependent acid rain model considering size distribution of aerosols and hydrometeors is developed to predict observed chemical and physical properties of precipitation. Temporal variations of anions and cations observed are predicted fairly well with acid rain model simulations. It is found that aerosol depletion rates are highly dependent on aerosol sizes under the assumption of Marshall - Palmer raindrop size distribution. Also, the aerosol depletion during the initial rain event largely influences on ion concentrations in rainwaters.

A mechanism of taurine transfer across the rat small intestine was elucidated by using the in situ recirculation perfusion or loop method. Taurine uptake was saturable, Km= 39.9 mM, and energy dependent, and required sodium. The close structural analogues, aminomethane sulfonic acid, .gamma.-amino-butyric acid, hypotaurine, and .betha.-alanine, reduced significantly taurine uptake when present in 10-fold excess. The .alpha.-amino acid, glycine, did not inhibit uptake. Hence, all of these findings lead to a conclusion that a carrier-mediated transport system for taurine exists in the small intestine.

In this paper, we consider ratio-dependent predator-prey models with disease in the prey under Neumann boundary condition. We investigate sufficient conditions for the existence and non-existence of non-constant positive steady-state solutions by the effects of the induced diffusion rates.

In this study, Curve dependent wheel flange lubricator with grease spray type is investigated and estimated a point of view reducing wheel flange wear and noise in the curve through field test on korean rail. Advantage of curve dependent wheel flange lubricator with grease spray type is found on the basis of the result of field test in comparison with oil spray type lubricator and wheel without wheel flange lubricator on railroad in Korea.

A combined clock and data recovery (CDR) circuit with adaptive cancellation of data-dependent jitter (DDJ) is constructed in all-digital architecture which is amenable to deep submicron technology. The DDJ canceller uses an adaptive FIR filter to compen-sate for any unknown channel characteristic. The proposed CDR decreases jitter in the recovered clock since the DDJ canceller significantly cancels out incoming jitter caused by inter-symbol interference.

Time dependent analysis of prestressed concrete beams subjected to pure torsion is studied. The present theory covers the behavior from the service load range to the ultimate stage. The tensile resistance of concrete is appropriately considered. The biaxial stress effects due to diagonal cracking are also taken into account. The time dependent aging, creep and shringkage effects are modelled by employing the equivalent nonmechanical torque concept. The present theory allows more accurate prediction of the service load behavior of pretressed concrete members.
