  • The state of pulp and dental hard tissue during the process of resorption and shedding of 104 non-carious primary teeth was assessed by histomorphologic study. The teeth were extracted from the Korean school children aged 5 to 15 and classified into preshedding, shedding, delayed shedding groups according to the age of the child at the time of extraction, The results were as follows: 1. The inflammatory cell infiltration in primary pulp tissues occurred in 61.5% of observed teeth and were increased in the order of preshedding, shedding and delayed shedding stages. 2. The odontoclasts were appeared in 43.3% of observed teeth and were increased in the order of preshedding, shedding and delayed shedding stages. 3. The polymorphonuclear leukocytes and odontoclasts couldn't be observed in the exfoliated primary pulp tissues before the process of resorption has involved the root surface about 1.8mm subjacent to the cemento-enamel junction. 4. The intact root surface was the longest and largest in the preshedding stage. 5. The resorption process of primary teeth roots occurred mainly in the stage of preshedding and shedding stages. 6. There was a tendency of repair of resorbing root surfaces in the delayed shedding stage.

  • Posttraumatic delayed vertebral collapse, known as Kummell's disease, is increasing in number of patients. This disease is already progressive kyphosis due to vertebral collapse at the time of diagnosis and it causes intractable pain or neurologic deficit due to intravertebral instability. Treatment is very difficult after progression of the disease, and the range of treatment, in hospital day, and cost of treatment are both increased. Clinical features, pathogenesis and radiologic findings of these disease groups were reviewed to determine risk factors for delayed vertebral collapse. The purpose of this article is to suggest appropriate treatment before vertebral collapse for patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture who have risk factors for posttraumatic delayed vertebral collapse.

  • Embedded database systems (EDBMS) based on NAND flash memories are widely adopted for logging data on sensor nodes. Since write and erase operations of a flash memory are time consuming compared to read operations and wear memory cells, it is important to reduce these operations to enhance the EDBMS performance and to extend the memory life. In this paper, we propose a delayed write scheme to archive this goal. Proposed scheme stores updated parts of database pages into delayed write records to reduce the database page writes. By doing that, it decreases write and erase operations on a flash memory. Therefore, the proposed scheme enhances the logging performance of a write-intensive EDBMS on a sensor node and extends the flash memory life.

  • A robust current control technique with a simple time delayed estimator for a permanent magnet synchronous m motor (PMSM) drive is presented. Among the various CWTent control schemes for a voltage source inverter-fed P PMSM drive, the predictive control is known to give a superior performance. This control technique, however, r requires the full knowledge of machine parameters and operating conditions, and gives an unsatisfactory r response under the parameter mismatch between the motor and controller. To overcome such a limitation, the d disturbances caused by the parameter valiations will be estimated by using a" time delay contTol approach and u used for the computation of the reference voltages by a simple feedforwal"d control. The proposed control $ scheme is implemented on a PMSM using the software of DSP TlVIS:32OC:30 and the effectiveness is verified d through the comparative simulations and experiments.periments.

  • This paper deals with the problem of blind source separation (BSS), where observed signals are a mixture of delayed sources. In reference to a previous work, when the delay time is small such that the first-order Taylor approximation holds, delayed observations are transformed into an instantaneous mixture of original sources and their derivatives, for which an extended second-order blind identification (SOBI) approach is used to recover sources. Inspired by the results of this previous work, we propose to generalize its first-order Taylor approximation to suit higher-order approximations in the case of a large delay time based on a similar version of its extended SOBI. Compared to SOBI and its extended version for a first-order Taylor approximation, our method is more efficient in terms of separation quality when the delay time is large. Simulation results verify the performance of our approach under different time delays and signal-to-noise ratio conditions, respectively.

  • Background and Objectives : The Motor evoked potentials (MEP) study may be useful in the evaluation of the degree of impairment in the motor nervous system and in the determination of the prognosis. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the status of central nervous system in acute and subacute state of cerebral ischemia by comparing the changes of MEP in the initial and follow-up study. Methods : Twenty patients with hemiparesis caused by ischemic stroke were recruited for this study. We tested MEP within 7 days and followed-up after 14 days after symptom onset. The cerebral motor cortex area, cervical area for upper extremity and lumbar area for lower extremity were stimulated by transmagnetic stimulator. The central motor conduction time(CMCT) was measured with the difference in MEP caused by stimulating the vertical area and spinal area. The CMCT of hemiparetic patients were classified into three groups-normal, delayed, and no evoked MEP groups. Results : The CMCT in hemiparetic side of acute ischemic stroke patients were singnificantly delayed (P < 0.05) compared with the control group. The CMCT of hemiparetic side in the follow-up study showed no sinificantly difference in comparison to the control group. The prognosis of motor improvement was better in the groups of delayed MEP than the groups of no evoked MEP. Conclusion : The CMCT of hemiparetic and contralateral sides were delayed in acute ischemic stroke, compared with control group and were returned to normal boundaries in subacute state. But in the most cases with no MEP response in the initial study, also showed no MEP response in the follow-up study. The recovery occurred in the subacute state in cases with mild hemiparesis, whereas recovery did not occur in the subacute stage in case with severe hemiparesis.

  • Purpose: Foreign body aspiration in children is emergent and can cause serious complications. This study aims to show the clinical characteristics of foreign body aspiration and to analyze the clinical cases of delayed diagnosis to predict and prevent complications. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 63 children (48 in Inha University Hospital and 15 in Gachon University Gil Medical Center) who were diagnosed with foreign body aspiration through bronchoscopy from 1996 to 2017 in Incheon City, and analyzed clinical characteristics. Patients were divided into 3 groups: those were diagnosed within 24 hours, delayed after 24 hours, or delayed more than 7 days according to time elapse from the time of foreign body aspiration, and clinical characteristics of each group were compared. Results: Aspiration occurred in 58.7% at 1 year and 15.9% at 2 years. Cough (65.1%) and coarse breathing sound (41.3%) were most common, and radiologic findings were commonly presented as emphysema on the affected side (41.3%). Nuts were most common (42.9%), and there was no difference in the frequency between the right and left main bronchi. The documented history of foreign body aspiration was more frequently found in the early diagnosed group; however, sputum, fever, and complications were more frequent in the delayed diagnosed group. Conclusion: If a patient with respiratory disease has persistent fever or sputum, foreign body aspiration should be suspected.

  • This paper proposes a digital controller for a nonlinear multi-input/multi-output(MIMO) system with time-delayed input. A nonlinear system with multi-input time delay is discretized using Taylor's discretization method, and the discretized system can be converted into a general nonlinear system. Consequently, general nonlinear controller synthesis can be applied to the discretized time-delay system We adopted MAC controller synthesis and verified the performance of the proposed method by conducting computer simulations. The results of the simulation showed that the proposed controller synthesis performs well and the proposed method is useful for controlling a nonlinear time-delay system.

  • Most of the vascular procedures performed for various diagnoses and treatments of various abdominal intervention procedures performed by the Department of Radiology and Angiography are performed by puncture of the femoral artery. For this reason, patients should undergo blood-related tests such as prothrombin time (PT) and partial thromboplatin time (PTT). Therefore, many patients are instructed to take precautions such as putting a sandbag on the puncture site to prevent delayed hemorrhage after hemostasis of the femoral artery puncture site, and not to bend the leg of the treated area for about 3 hours. Because of this, many patients have complained of pain during the procedure and inconvenience during the absolute bed rest time in the ward. The purpose of this study was to compare the safety of balloon ancillary devices with sandbags placed on the hemostasis site to prevent delayed hemorrhage after arterial puncture. We compared the safety of each patient with the results of medical records in consideration of the problem that the patient could not press with the focus, the position of the patient was changed depending on the patient's body shape, and the problem of falling down according to the location of the puncture site. As a result, the use of a balloon type ancillary device improves the effect of continuous hemostasis, reduces discomfort during the patient's absolute stabilization time, increases the patient's satisfaction, and is a good alternative to the existing sandbag.

  • We propose an adaptive non-singular terminal sliding-mode control for the fast finite-time convergence (FANTSMC) in robot manipulator. The proposed FANTSMC approach is developed to be applied without singularity in robot manipulator, which has a new pole-placement control with the non-singular terminal sliding variable while generating the desirable control torque. Moreover, the switching gain is designed to suppress the time-delayed estimation error appropriately, which aims at providing the high robust tracking performance. Also, the proposed one employs one-sample delayed information to cancel out the system uncertainties and disturbances. For these reasons, it offers strong attraction within the finite time. It is shown that the tracking performance of the proposed FANTSMC approach is guaranteed to be uniformly ultimately bounded through the Lyapunov stability. The effectiveness of the proposed FANTSMC approach is illustrated in simulations, which is compared with that of the up-to-date control approach.
