  • Since military weapon accidents or breakdowns are directly linked to enormous damage, it is important to analyze the causes of weapons system accidents. Recently, in the defense sector, there have been cases in which budget has been saved through analysis of the causes of frequent breakdowns and improvement activities that have occurred in the process of operating weapon systems since 2015. But due to the nature of the defense sector, it is not easy to collect data and studies on weapons system accidents have been insufficient so far. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the causes and types of military weapon accidents by collecting military weapon accident data for military weapon systems and analyzing trends by weapon system classification through the analysis process. It analyzes statistically and visually through social network analysis, NodeXL. It is expected that this study will help improve the stability of the weapon system by reducing the number of military weapon accidents and failures.

  • This paper is concerned with a track management method for a naval combat system which receives the tracks information from multi-sensors and multi-tactical datalinks. Since the track management of processing the track information from diverse sources can be formulated as a data fusion problem, this paper will deal with the data fusion architecture, track association and track information determination algorithm for the track management of naval combat systems.

  • CALS is a strategy to share integrated product data through a set of standards to achieve efficiencies in business and operational mission areas. In this paper, we studied current status for CALS standard and then analyzed the case of US DoD. The results can be summarized as implementing for two major standard in defense CALS system. They are STEP and XML. Korea Defense can be used to set direction for CALS standard implementation and standard selection process based on this paper's recommendations.

  • Link-K message is the Tactical Data Link message standard developed by the Agency for Defense Development which is optimized for the Joint Operation of ROK Armed Force. KMTF message is the standard message format of Battle Management Information System. Interconversion and propagation between these messages are definitely needed to have efficient warfare such as situation data propagation using network, the convergence of collected situation data, common situational awareness, cooperative engagement. Therefore, this study suggests a way of rule and process for format conversion between Link-K and KMTF messages.

  • In this paper, we propose the methodology and system to show weather information to spatial system. When using the spatial information system, it is easy and convenient to show information such as target location, mission contents, enemy threats and so on. However, drawing 1-dimensional weather information on 3-dimensional space in spatial information system is hard task. To fuse data, we need to add a spatial layer including weather information to spatial layers and perform space modeling for showing weather information as spatial data in a virtual space. The virtual space is shown by receiving meteorological data and then changing in real time through weather database linkage.

  • Tropospheric delay is one of the largest error source in pseudolite navigation system. Because a pseudolite is installed on the ground and transmits its signal to a user in the air or on the ground, the conventional tropospheric delay model developed for a satellite navigation doesn't work properly. In this paper, performance analysis of several pseudolite tropospheric delay models has been done using meteorological data. Based on the result, a new compensation method for Hopfield model has been proposed.

  • The defense industry is a future-oriented industry, in which high-tech technologies are concentrated. In addition, it is a key industry for maintaining national security, and the R&D of the defense industry is very important. With the introduction of a competitive system by defense industry companies, the necessity of improving the efficiency and productivity of defense industry companies is emerging. In this study, the efficiency of the defense industry was measured using the CCR and BCC model. In addition, super efficiency was derived using the Super-SBM model. For this study, the 2019 defense industry management analysis data of the Korea Defense Industry Association (KDIA) was used, and the analysis was performed by setting the number of researchers and investments of domestic defense industry companies as the input variables and sales as the output variables. Through this study, it is expected that the defense industry's R&D efficiency will be grasped, which will help establish a policy for fostering the defense industry in the future.

  • This paper considers a distributed telemetry system using retransmission algorithm with one master telemetry and two slave telemetries. The master telemetry merges data from each slave telemetry and own measured data. If there exist some errors in data from the slave telemetry, the master telemetry requests retransmission to corresponding slave telemetry. In this paper, we propose a retransmission algorithm applied to implementing the distributed telemetry system. Simulation results demonstrate that the retransmission improves the performance of the communication between the master and slave telemetries.

  • Technology growth curve methodology is commonly used in technology forecasting. A technology growth curve represents the paths of product performance in relation to time or investment in R&D. It is a useful tool to compare the technological performances between Korea and advanced nations and to describe the inflection points, the limit of improvement of a technology and their technology innovation strategies, etc. However, the curve fitting to a set of survey data often leads to model mis-specification, biased parameter estimation and incorrect result since data through survey with experts frequently contain outlier in process of curve fitting due to the subjective response characteristics. This paper propose a method to eliminate of outlier from a technology growth curve using M-estimator. The experimental results prove the overall improvement in technology growth curves by several pilot tests using real-data in Defense Science and Technology Survey reports.

  • A new algorithm for satellite microwave rainfall retrievals over the land of Taiwan using TMI (TRMM Microwave Imager) data on board TRMM (Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission) satellite is described in this study. The scattering index method (Grody, 1991) was accepted to develop a rainfall estimation algorithm and the measurements from Automatic Rainfall and Meteorological Telemetry System (ARMTS) were employed to evaluate the satellite rainfall retrievals. Based on the standard products of 2A25 derived from TRMM/PR data, the rainfall areas over Taiwan were divided into convective rainfall area and stratiform rainfall areas with/without bright band. The results of rainfall estimation from the division of rain type are compared with those without the division of rain type. It is shown that the mean rainfall difference for the convective rain type is reduced from -6.2mm/hr to 1.7mm/hr and for the stratiform rain type with bright band is decreased from 10.7 mm/hr to 2.1mm/hr. But it seems not significant improvement for the stratiform rain type without bright band.
