  • A real-time inspection system has been developed by combining CCD based image processing algorithm and a standard lighting equipment. The system was tested for defective fabrics showing nozzle contact scratch marks, which were one of the frequently occurring defects. Multi-resolution analysis(MRA) algorithm were used and evaluated according to both their processing time and detection rate. Standard value for defective inspection was the mean of the non-defect image feature. Similarity was decided via comparing standard value with sample image feature value. Totally, we achieved defective inspection accuracy above 95%.

  • HI-WORTH T-32, a non-powered plasma cutter, is a portable cutter that utilizes compressor-plasma inverter. With a special air-pressure piston, the cutter is semiautomatic. When they were produced by die casting dies, the bodies or housings of the cutter have defects about 100 percent of defect rate due to blisters and thermal deformation. Therefore, they are produced by mechanical machining, which leads to a hike in material and machining costs and to the loss of productivity. And companies are left with insignificant profit margins. Besides mechanical machining, this study proposes to modify defective mold and cut down defective rate and boost productivity.

  • This paper deals with the problem of selecting optimal wear limit and initial process mean in a wear-out process. Consider a material removal processing machinery where 1)there are deffective items by linear shift in the mean of the diameter of to be processed with varing process variance and 2)there can be any failure in the machine tools or to be processed. In the previous studies, the one is analyzed by 'Model of Producing Goods' in quality control area and the other, any failure, is analyzed by 'Model of Producing Services' in reliability area. We propose a new integrated maintenance model, considering the percent defective and the failure rate. A numerical example for the model is given.

  • This paper proposes a defective pixel detection algorithm and its hardware structure for CCD/CMOS image sensor. In previous algorithms, the characteristics of image have not been considered. Also, some algorithms need quite a time to detect defective pixels. In order to make up for those disadvantages, the proposed defective pixel detection method detects defective pixels efficiently by considering the edges in the image and verifies them using several frames while checking scene-changes. Whenever scene-change is occurred, potentially defective pixels are checked and confirmed whether it is defective or not. Test results showed that the correct detection rate in a frame was increased 6% and the defective pixel verification time was decreased 60%. The proposed algorithm was implemented with verilog HDL. The edge indicator in color interpolation block was reused. Total logic gate count was 5.4k using 0.25um CMOS standard cell library.

  • The statistical process control charts are very extensively used for monitoring of process mean, deviation, defect rate or reject rate. In this paper we consider a control chart to monitor the process reject rate in the high yield process, which is based on the observed cumulative probability of the number of items inspected until r defective items are observed. We first propose selection of the optimal value of r in the CPC-r charts, and also consider the usefulness of the chart in high yield process such as semiconductor or TFT-LCD manufacturing process.

  • The yeast L-A virus (4.6 kb dsRNA genome) encodes the major coat protein and a "gag-pol" fusion minor coat protein that separately encapsidate itself and $M_{1}$, a 1.8 kb dsRNA satellite virus encoding a secreted protein toxin (the killer toxin). The teast chromosomal SKI genes prevent viral cytopathology by lowering the virus copy number. Thus, $ski^{-}$ mutants are ts and cs for growth. We transformed a ski2-2 virus-infested mutant with a yeast bank in a high copy cloning vector and selected the rare healthy transformants for analysis. One type of transformant segregated M-O L-A-O cells with high frequency. Elimination of the DNA clone from the ski2-2 strain eliminated this phinotype and introduction of the DNA clone recovered from such transformants into the parent ski2-2 strain, or into ski3 or ski6 mutants gave the same phenotype. This killer-curing phenotype was due to the curing of the helper L-A dsRNA virus. The 6.5 kb insert only had this activity when carried on a high copy vector and in $ski^{-}$ cells (not in $SKI^{+}$ cells). This 6.5 kb insert acts as a mutagen on L-A dsRNA producing a high rate of deletion mutations.mutations.

  • The detection process of defective tags in most of Korean domestic RFID manufacturing companies is treated by on-hand processing after the job of chip bonding, so it has been requested to reduce the time and cost for manufacturing of RFID tags. Therefore, in this paper, we implement the system to perform the detection of defective tags after the process of chip bonding, and so provide the basis of software to establish the foundation of automation system for the detection of defected RFID tags which is requested in the related Korean domestic industrial field. We have developed the system by using UML in modeling phase and JAVA in implementation phase to reduce the cost of development of program and make it easy to maintain. The developed system in this paper shows the very enhanced performance in processing speed and perfect detection rate of defective tags, comparing to the method of on-hand processing.

  • A buccal pit is a prominent point-like depression that appears at the cervical end of the mandibular molar developmental grooves. A defective buccal pit can be defined as a buccal pit in which the continuity of the dentinoenamel junction is broken and the pit extends to the dentinal level. This study aimed to determine the frequency of buccal pits and defective buccal pits in un-erupted mandibular first and second molars using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). The analysis was performed on CBCT images taken from 417 Korean children and adolescents who visited the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Yonsei University Dental Hospital between 2004 and 2020. Based on cross-sectional views of CBCT images, buccal pits were categorized into 4 classes according to the depth of the pits. The expression rate of the buccal pits was 29.1%. The prevalence of defective buccal pits was 7.9%. The buccal pits tended to develop bilaterally. To date, this is the most comprehensive study on the frequency of buccal pits with the largest sample size. This was the first attempt worldwide to analyze the depth of the buccal pit using CBCT images and to define a defective buccal pit worldwide.

  • In this paper, we address an optimization problem and a case study for minimizing the cost of inspections incurred throughout an inspection system, which includes a K-stage inspection system, a source inspection shop, and a re-inspection shop. In order to formulate the inspection cost function, we make a time-based flow analysis between nodes (or shops), and derive the limiting sizes of flows between nodes and limiting defective rates by solving a set of nonlinear balance equations. It turns out that the number of items reworked throughout the inspection system is invariant irrespective of the defective rate of items moved through the K-stage inspection system. Hence we define the inspection cost as the total number of items inspected, and we provide an enumeration method for determining an optimal value of K which minimizes the number of items inspected.

  • One of the typical assumptions of the studies to determine economic production quantity is that yield rate of a given manufacturing process is 100% or constant after setup. However, in the real world, there are many manufacturing processes of which yield rates are quite low just after setup and then increasing with time until they reach the target rates which are set strategically. This period is usually called "stabilization period". During the stabilization period, defectives are produced, which incur cost (defective cost). In this study, an optimal production quantity for this situation is presented. Also, it is shown that defective cost acts like setup cost and therefore, increases the economic production quantity.
