Lead-Lag Controller Design of Direct Drive Servo Valve Using Complex Method (컴플렉스법에 의한 직접구동형서보밸브의 진상-지상 제어기 설계)

  • Direct drive servovalve(DDV) is a kind of one-stage valve because the main spool valve is directly driven by the DC motor. Since the structure of DDV is simple, it is less expensive, more reliable and offers reduced internal leakage and reduced sensitivity to fluid contamination. However, the flow force effect on the spool motion is significant such that it induces large steady-state error in a step response. If the proportional control gain is increased to reduce the steady-state error, the system becomes unstable. In order to satisfy the system design requirements, the lead-lag controller is designed using the complex method that is one kind of constrained direct search method.

  • In this paper, control schemes are developed for a propulsion system(Converter/Inverter) in electrical train. A robust controller for PWM converter is proposed. The converter controller consists of a PI controller for DC output voltage and a current controller using error-space approach for maintaining the sinusoidal current waveform and unity power factor. This proposed method is based on characteristic ratio assignment(CRA) method which has the advantage to design the optimal gain to meet the referenced response and overshoot within the limit range. Inverter system is controlled by vector control and slip frequency control. At low speed region, vector control scheme is applied to control instantaneous torque and slip frequency control is performed under overmodulation region and one pulse mode. Because output voltage of converter contains harmonics ripple at twice input ac line frequency, control scheme is developed to reduce the pulsating torque current. The performance of propulsion system will be verified by simulation and prototype experimental results.

Design of a Rceiver MMIC for the CDMA Terminal (CDMA 단말기용 수신단 MMIC 설계)

  • This paper presents a Receiver MMIC for the CDMA terminal. The complete circuit is composed of Low Noise Amplifier, Down Conversion Mixer, Intermediate Frequency Amplifier and Bias circuit. The Bias circuit implementation, which allows for compensation for threshold voltage and power supply voltage variation are provided. The proposed topology has high linearity and low noise characteristics. Results of the designed circuit are as follows: Overall conversion gain is 28.5 dB, input IP3 of LNA is 8 dBm, input IP3 of down conversion mixer is 0 dBm and total DC current consumption is 22.1 mA.

  • This paper analyzes a resonant inverter to generate plasma. The resonant inverter consists of a full bridge converter, resonant network and reactor to generate a magnetic field for plasma generation. A plasma load has very distinct characteristics compared to conventional loads. The characteristics of plasma load are analyzed through experimental results. This paper presents the study on the resonant network, which was performed in order to determine how to achieve a constant current gain. Another important contribution of this study is the analysis of drop-out phenomenon observed in plasma loads which is responsible for unpredictable shutdown of the plasma generator that requires stable operation. In addition, the design process for the resonant network of a plasma generator is proposed. The validity of this study is verified through simulations and experimental results.

  • Brushless DC(BLDC) motor have been increasingly used in machine tools and robotics applications due to the reliability and the efficiency. In control of BLDC motor, it is important to construct the controller which is robust to parameter variations and external disturbances. Variable structure controller(VSC) has been known as a powerful tool in robust control of time varying systems. In practical systems, however, VSC has a high frequency chattering which deteriorates system performances. In this paper, a binary controller(BC) which takes the form of VSC and MRAC combined is presented to solve this problem. BC consists of the primary loop controller and the external loop controller to change the gain of primary loop controller smoothly. So it can generate the continuous control input and is insensitive to parameter variations in the given domain. To confirm the validity, various investigations of control characteristics for various design parameters in a position control system of BLDC motor are carried out. Vector Control for the Rotor Resistance Compensation of Induction Motor (유도전동기 회전자 저항 보상을 위한 벡터제어)

  • In the vector control methods of induction motor, the stator current is divided into the flux and torque component current. By controlling these components respectively, the methods control independently flux and torque as in the DC motor and improve the control effects. To apply the vector control methods, the position of the rotor current is identified. The indirect vector control use the parameters of the machine to identify the position of rotor flux. But due to the temperature rise during machine operation, the variation of rotor resistance degrades the vector control. To solve the problem, the q-axis is aligned to reference frame without phase difference by comparing the real flux component with the reference flux component. Then to compensate the slip, PI controller is used. The proposed method keeps a constant slip by compensating the gain of direct slip frequency when the rotor resistance of induction motor varies. To prove the validations of the proposed algorithm in the paper, computer simulations is executed.

  • In this paper, a low noise amplifier(LNA) in a receiver of a Low Noise Block Down Converter (LNB) for direct broadcasting service(DBS) is implemented using GaAs HEMT. The LNA is designed for the bandwidth of 11.7GHz-12.2GHz. The 2stage-LNA consists of a input matching circuit, a output matching circuit, DC-blocks and RF-chokes. The result of a simulation of the LNA using Advanced Design System(ADS) shows the noise figure less than 1.4dB, the gain greater than 23dB and the flatness of 1dB in the bandwidth of 11.7 to 12.2GHz.

Practical Implementation of an Interleaved Boost Converter for Electric Vehicle Applications

  • This study presents a practical implementation of a multi-mode two-phase interleaved boost converter for fuel cell electric vehicle application. The main operating modes, which include two continuous conducting modes and four discontinuous conducting modes, are discussed. The boundaries and transitions among these modes are analyzed with consideration of the inductor parasitic resistance. The safe operational area is analyzed through a comparison of the different operating modes. The output voltage and power characteristics with open-loop or closed-loop operation are also discussed. Key performance parameters, including the DC voltage gain, input ripple current, output ripple voltage, and switch stresses, are presented and supported by simulation and experimental results.

  • Binary control with integral COFB is presented to alleviate the chattering. Binary control system consists of the main loop and the external loop which transforms the gain of main loop smoothly, and can generate the continuous control input under the existence of the delay and the switching frequency limitation of the controller. Therefore, it has the properties of chattering alleviation, in addition, advantages of the conventional variable structure control. To confirm the validity of the developed controller, position control of brushless DC motor with binary controller as a position controller is performed.
