SRM (switched reluctance motor) provides an excellent adjustable speed and torque characteristics. SRM has the possibility of maintaining full power over a wide speed range. So, many attempts are being done from home appliances to industrial applications. Especially, a traction drive of an SRM is one of a good application for it's DC-series characteristic. However, because of the switching mechanism and reluctance torque, it has some disadvantage of noise and vibration. It is difficult to adopt to an appliance demanding silency. Performance and noise tests with 6/4 and 12/8 SRM were excuted to compare the characteristics.

The errors generated from current measurement paths are inevitable, and they can be divided into two categories: offset error and scaling error. The current data including these errors cause periodic speed ripples which are one and two times the stator electrical frequency respectively. Since these undesirable ripples bring about harmful influences to motor driving systems, a compensation algorithm must be introduced to the control algorithm of the motor drive. In this paper, a new compensation algorithm is proposed. The signal of the integrator output of the d-axis current regulator is chosen and processed to compensate for the current measurement errors. Usually the d-axis current command is zero or constant to acquire the maximum torque or unity power factor in the ac drive system, and the output of the d-axis current regulator is nearly zero or constant as well. If the stator currents include the offset and scaling errors, the respective motor speed produces a ripple related to one and two times the stator electrical frequency, and the signal of the integrator output of the d-axis current regulator also produces the ripple as the motor speed does. The compensation of the current measurement errors is easily implemented to smooth the signal of the integrator output of the d-axis current regulator by subtracting the DC offset value or rescaling the gain of the hall sensor. Therefore, the proposed algorithm has several features: the robustness in the variation of the mechanical parameters, the application of the steady and transient state, the ease of implementation, and less computation time. The MATLAB simulation and experimental results are shown in order to verify the validity of the proposed current compensating algorithm.
In this paper, bilateral variable-ratio dc chopper system for electric vehicle is proposed. We present the method which is able to simplify the main synthetic chopper circuit by selecting among the forward powering, forward regenerative braking, backward powering, and backward regenerative braking only by control signal. By conducting the experiment with separately excited dc motor, it is confirmed that two quadrant chopper can drive four quadrant operation.

Due to the clutch's non-linear dynamics, time-delays, external disturbance and parameter uncertainty, the automated clutch is difficult to control precisely during the launch process or automatic mechanical transmission (AMT) vehicles. In this paper, an enhanced fuzzy sliding mode controller (EFSMC) is proposed to control the automated clutch. The sliding and global stability conditions are formulated and analyzed in terms of the Lyapunov full quadratic form. The chattering phenomenon is handled by using a saturation function to replace the pure sign function and fuzzy logic adaptation system in the control law. To meet the real-time requirement of the automated clutch, the region-wise linear technology s adopted to reduce the fuzzy rules of the EFSMC. The simulation results have shown hat the proposed controller can achieve a higher performance with minimum reaching time and smooth control actions. In addition, our data also show that the controller is effective and robust to the parametric variation and external disturbance.

In this paper, an auxiliary winding driving system of single-phase induction motors is described. Starting charateristics variations are obtained by controlling the auxiliary winding voltage magnitude and phase angle, while the motor's main winding is directly connected to the local utility. A variable auxiliary winding voltage phase angle is shown to yield significant torque control, providing starting and braking torque. The analysis includes the determination of the relationship between the auxiliary winding voltage phase angle and the phase angle difference between the main and auxiliary winding current. The paper proposed for adjusting an auxiliary winding voltage magnitude and phase angle. Experimental results of motor's starting characteristics with using the DC-AMP and PWM inverter for auxiliary winding power supply are shown. The drive is tested using a dynamometer to experimentally verify the results of the theory.
Designing fuzzy controller, there are difficulties that we have to determine fuzzy rules and shapes of membership functions which are usually obtained by the amount of trial-and-error or experiences from the experts. In this paper, to overcome these defects, genetic algorithms which is probabilistic search method based on genetics and evolution theory are used to determine fuzzy rules and fuzzy membership functions. We design a series compensation fuzzy controller, then determine basic structures, input-output variables, fuzzy inference methods and defuzzification methods for fuzzy controllers. We develop genetic algorithms which may search more accurate optimal solutions. For evaluating the fuzzy controller performances through experiments upon an actual system, we design the fuzzy controllers for the speed control of a DC series motor with nonlinear characteristics and show good output responses to reference inputs.

In automobile, the introduction of electronically commutated motors has been accompanied by a proliferation of electronic devices. With this proliferation of electronic devices, an emphasis has been placed on EMC issues. This paper is proposed to use SRM as a radiator cooling fan in automotive applications. To drive SRM, Energy efficient C-dump converter is applied. It is verified more efficient than other converters through simulation and experiments. And also SRM is valid automotive applications that have strict EMC standards. It is compared SRM with BLDC and DC motor by experiments.
The induction motor is constantly operated by general source, thus its speed control is employed an inverter system which can convert DC into AC. The CSI(Current Source Inverter) which have a commutation capacitor in its circuit is liable to cause a voltage spike that it is due to charge and discharge of commutation capacitor. And six phases inverter makes a number of harmonics. These have a effect upon the induction motor badly. This paper aims to suggest a way to reduce such adverse effects by maximally cutting the voltage spike as well as by eliminating a number of harmonics through the operation of Multi-HFCSI.
