Multichannel Strategies: A Case Study of the Korean Musical Myeongdong Romance

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to confirm that multichannel distribution strategies may be used for cultural and artistic products such as musicals, just as for general consumer goods, through a case study on the distribution strategy for a musical title. In addition, a distribution strategy for cultural and artistic products is proposed based on the analysis of the case. Research design, data, and methodology: Qualitative research methods, such as case study research and in-depth interviews, were used in this study. Results: The case study of the Korean musical Myeongdong Romance confirmed that multichannel distribution strategies may be used for musicals, including performances at theaters, Naver TV screenings (a service linked to an Internet portal), LGU+ screenings (an IPTV and OTT media service), DVD releases, and screenings of recordings of Romance Hall performances. Conclusion: For cultural and artistic products such as musicals, distribution channels can be diversified to incorporate the simultaneous use of multiple channels. New cases involving other cultural and artistic products and services to which this distribution strategy is applicable may be identified, and the strategy may be implemented along with new technologies to reduce costs further.

  • 문화·관광 융합 배경 하에 민간 예술과 문화 창작 제품의 효과적인 결합은 지역 문화 산업의 발전에 대단히 중요한 영향을 미친다. 쉬저우(徐州) 지엔즈(剪紙)는 중국 수베이(蘇北) 지역의 유일한 세계적인 '무형문화재' 프로젝트로 비교적 높은 인문학적·예술적 가치를 갖추고 있어 현대 디자인에 널리 사용된다. 현재 쉬저우 지엔즈 문화 창작 제품의 개발은 주로 2차원 평면 위주의 장식·관상적 작품으로 하는데, 형식이 단일하고 실용성이 강하지 않아, 현대인의 생활 미적 요구를 충족시킬 수 없었다. 본 연구에서는 쉬저우 왕구이잉(王桂英)의 지엔즈를 연구하여, 지엔즈 문화 창작 제품 개발 및 디자인 원칙을 제안했으며, 디자인 활용을 위해 왕구이잉의 전형적인 '거위' 패턴을 선택하여 문화 창작 제품 디자인에서 쉬저우 지엔즈 응용 가치에 대해 탐색하고 전문가의 인터뷰를 통해 디자인 원칙의 타당성을 입증했다. 본 연구가 지엔즈 문화의 현대적 계승과 혁신적인 발전을 위한 일정한 참고 자료로 제공되기를 바란다.

섬유소재를 이용한 한국적 이미지의 문화상품 디자인개발 (A Cultural Product Design Development of Korean Image by the Use of Fabric Materials)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a cultural products design of korean image using fabrics. The study is carry out in literature research methods and make sample product. We examine existing researches about cultural product design development to understand developed items, materials, and design directions. The brainstorming method and the established literature researches were used to obtain the design components of Korean image. A cultural products design was developed into the decorative structural details. The results can be summarized as follows: Korean image is pure, passive, gentle, small, and lasting life-force at weeds and wild flowers. Korean form is rounded curve and soft silhouette as streamy, not exaggerate. Korean color is not a finishing treatment, non-dyed natural color, or pastel, light greyish, and dull tone. Korean textile is a natural materials as linen, ramie, and coarse silk. Final sample products are table supplies, home goods and bed goods applying the sewing method of tuck, quilting, top-stitching, patch work, applique and embroidery.

백제 사비시대 사찰의 사리장엄구를 활용한 패션문화상품 디자인 개발 (Design Development of Fashion Cultural Products using the Sari Container of Baekje’s Sabi Period Temples)

  • Buddhist culture had a significant impact on the entire mode of Korean living after the introduction of Buddhism to Korea in the Three Kingdom Period. Baekje embraced Buddhism in 384 A.D.; subsequently, diverse artifacts have now been excavated from the temples. Various research on Korean temples are now in progress; however there is inadequate research on the relics and patterns excavated from the temples due to the focus on the temples’ architectural form. There is limited research on the development of fashion cultural products that use relics excavated from the temples. This study develops designs for fashion cultural products using Baekje Sabi Period relics; specifically, the sari container excavated from Buyeo’s Wangheungsaji, Neungsanrisaji, and Iksan’s Mireuksaji. The sari container’s original form, patterns, and writing were developed into patterns and applied to fashion products such as t-shirts, bags and scarves. Traditional multicolored paintwork exhibited on the temples, ‘dancheong’, was selected as the color for products that can symbolically express the nature of their origin. Adobe Illustrator CC and Adobe Photoshop CC were used to extract the motifs and develop the designs. Six patterns and nine fashion products were designed, accounting for a total of fifteen developed items. We hope that the fashion cultural product design expresses the distinct characteristics of Baekje’s Sabi Period and can be applied to various products and related fields.

목재 가치 증진을 위한 목재에 대한 인식 및 선호도 조사: II. 목재문화자원에 대한 인식 (Investigation on the Awareness and Preference for Wood to Promote the Value of Wood: II. Awareness of Wood Cultural Resources)

  • 목재문화 활성화 전략을 수립하기 위한 기초연구로써 일반인의 목재문화에 대한 인식정도와 유형별 목재문화자원의 체험현황에 대한 설문조사를 진행하였다. 응답자의 31.4%가 목재문화자원에 대하여 궁궐, 사찰, 한옥, 문화재 등 문화유산의 이미지를 갖고 있는 것으로 조사되었다. 목재문화자원에 대한 이미지가 없다는 응답자 중에서 목재문화자원의 개념이 모호하기 때문이라는 응답이 40.2%이었으며, 목재문화자원 자체를 생각해본 적이 없다는 응답이 40.1%이었다. 7가지로 분류된 목재문화자원의 중요도는 문화유산, 목조건축, 문화시설, 문화행사, 목재제품, 문화교육, 문화콘텐츠의 순서로 나타났다. 목재문화자원을 체험하기 위한 정보의 필요성과 충분성에 대한 설문에서 응답자의 46.7%는 다양한 정보가 필요하다고 하였으며, 응답자의 64.8%는 충분한 정보가 제공되지 않는다고 하였다. 향후 1년 이내에 목재문화를 체험하고 싶은 의향은 대부분의 목재문화자원에서 과반 이상의 응답율을 나타냈으나, 실제로 7가지 목재문화자원에 참여하였던 빈도는 일상생활에서 사용되는 목재제품을 제외하면 20% 내외로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 일반인이 목재문화자원을 체험할 수 있는 기회를 확대하고 보다 대중화하기 위해서 다양한 콘텐츠를 개발하고, 일반인에게 홍보할 수 있는 체계적인 전략수립이 요구된다.

  • Korea has established a code for the economic and cultural industry that covers a wide range of classes unlike the old information era which was limited to the simple knowledge, technology, tools, morals, and customers that had been established in our society. On the other hand, 'culture marketing' is a series of marketing activities in which value-added items are created and shared. The combination of business management and culture seemed pretty awkward considering how rapidly the world was changing, however, the nature of today's culture has changed and the economic nature of culture products has resulted from those changes. In this paper, two authors who expressed the cultural identity in the culture products are studied through a comparison analysis; the author Min Yeongsoon expressed the identity confusion that she experienced in a foreign country and how she overcame homesickness in her work; and the author Kim Ata expressed his confidence in Asia and used his clear and loud voice to express the culture in his work. In addition, today's culture products are affected by the surrounding cultures such as the member's traditional society, environmental culture, and individual's culture. It is a good source for good works of art. In this study, the efforts of seeking the cultural identity, structuring the concept, seeking a new market and possibilities are used to make a consistent process in order to make a series of the systems required for planning and developing culture products.

한국 IT제품 구매에 영향을 미치는 요인에 관한 연구 : 제품 평가준거, 문화적 영향력, 소비자 특성을 중심으로 (A Study on the Factors affecting the Purchase of Korean IT Products in Overseas Markets : On Product Valuation Criteria, Cultural Influence, and Consumer Attributes)

  • This study aims to identify factors affecting the purchase of Korean IT products in overseas markets. The empirical investigation on Chinese and Japanese, which are major overseas markets of Korean IT products and within Korean wave of influence, ascertains that they have had experiences in purchasing Korean IT products such as MP3, hand held phone, and digital camera. In addition, it was revealed that the country image of Korea and valuation of Korean IT products have been enhanced by Korean wave. The result of multiple regression analysis shows that the purchase of Korean IT products is dependent upon social influence, country image, product attributes, preference on Korean wave, and cultural influence. In the separated hypotheses test of China and Japan, the same factors are found to be significant variables affecting the purchase of Korean IT products but practicality, innovativeness, and norms of consumers are found to be significant only in Chinese market. These results imply what should be considered to expedite the export of Korean IT products. In particular, this study finds different factors affecting the purchase of Korean IT products in different countries.

방한 외국인 한국에 대한 국가이미지가 패션문화상품 선호도에 미치는 영향 (Foreign Visitors' Korean National Image Influencing Preference of Fashion Cultural Products)

  • Korea's national image can be delivered through cultural products, and cultural products can finally contribute to the affirmative attitude and recognition towards Korea. In an empirical study, a questionnaire was developed based on literature review and focus group interviews with foreigners who visit Korea were executed. Subjects of this study were foreign visitors from US, China, and Japan. Finally, a total of 247 copies were used for analyses. Descriptive analyses, factor analysis, regression analysis, ANOVA, Duncan test, and paired sample t-test were conducted for data analysis, Results are as follows. Firstly, as a result of factor analysis, I found that there were seven factors to form the image of Korea; culture/art, openness, lechnology/quality, food culture, passionate narcissism, conservativeness, and pursuit of quality of life. Secondly, Several image factors were found to influence positively or negatively on their attitude toward fashion cultural products. Especially, culture/art factor was found to influence positively to Chinese and Japanese and lechnology/quality factor was found to influence positively to Japanese and American. Meanwhile, conservativeness factor was found to influence negatively to Chinese. This study will be of help to practitioners of the fashion cultural product industry for building marketing strategies whose target market is foreign visitors from different cultural backgrounds.

  • 다가오는 21세기는 정보와 문화가 지배하는 시대이다. 인간의 삶의 질은 문화의 수준에 의해 좌우된다. 이러한 시대에는 한 나라의 독창적인 문화와 문학적 수준이 그 나라의 모든 것을 대변하게 될 것이며 문화의 총체적인 결과물이라고 할 수 있는 국가 이미지는 막대한 영향력을 행사하게 된다. 이같은 문화주의 시대의 도래는 근대문화의 합리성과 전통문화의 개념을 어떻게 실질적으로 조화시켜 후기산업사회를 맞이해야 할것인가라는 중요한 과제를 던져주고 있다. 이른바 문화의 산업화와 산업의 문화화는 국경없는 국가 경쟁시대에 무엇보다 중요한 생존 전략이 될것이며 한 나라의 독특한 문화가 배어있는 문화상품은 그 나라의 이미지 선양은 물론 고부가가치 산업으로 부상할 수 있다. 일반상품이 편의성, 실용성을 우선 조건으로 개발된다면 문화상품은 문화와 기술 창조력의 척도가 되는 것으로 한 나라나 한 지역을 국제 사회에 인식시키는 실체가 된다. 이러한 국제시장 질서와 문화환경 변화에 대응하기 위해서는 독특한 문화유산을 바탕으로 하여 현대적 기호와 감각에 적합한 디자인을 개발하고 이를 상품화하여 국제경쟁력을 강화해 나갈 방안이 절실하다. 하나의 상품이 탄생하여 시장에 유통되고 최종 수요자에게 도달하기 위해서는 상품의 개발과 유통·판매라는 여러 복합과정에 대한 이해와 각 분야의 시스템화가 필수적이며 또한 어떠한 영역도 소홀할 수는 없겠지만, 본 고에서는 이에 대한 정책·제도적 대안이나 유통과 마케팅적 관심은 논외로 한다. 본 고는 한국적 문화이미지로서 전통문양이 차지하는 비중과 이것이 문화상품이라는 형태로 구체화되는-전통문양이 상품에 효과적으로 활용될 수 있는 상품디자인·개발 과정을 제시하는 것이다. 따라서 이를 바탕으로 한 제도적 장치와 구체적 활성화 방안이 후속적으로 전개되길 기대한다.

패션명품 광고에 나타난 사회문화적 의미 -여성 이미지를 중심으로- (Socio-cultural Meanings in Advertisement of Fashion Luxury Products -Focused on Women`s Images-)

  • Fashion luxury products, which used to mean high-quality, handcrafted not-so-trendy items, are nowadays regarded as expensive fashion merchandise produced under the name of imported well-known brands. People cunsuming fashion luxury products distinguish themselves from other people according to the luxury fashion brands they are using, and as a result, advertisements of fashion luxury products are taken as a kind of international language. The purpose of this study is to point out the socio-cultural meanings of consuming fashion luxury products, by analyzing images shown in advertisements of fashion luxury products focusing on women's images. To do so, this study is based on general theoretical background on fashion, consumer culture advertising and analysis advertisements of fashion luxury products shown in fashion magazines in recent three years. The result of this study is as follows; The images of the advertisements of fashion luxury products could be categorized as (1) elegance, (2) kitsch and (3) fetish. Elegance is a taste of high society, aesthetically chic and feminine. Fashion luxury products, which are merchandise of extravagance, dignity, refinement, feminity and harmony, exhibit high-quality grace through their advertisements. Kitsch represents the vulgar and popular images of trivial commodities of industrial society. In the advertisement of fashion luxury product, it is shown as inappropriateness, excessiveness, stereotyped pleasantness, exaggeration an playful satisfaction. Finally, fetish images represent erotic or perverted sexuality, based on psychoanalytic fetishism which objects are regarded s substitute of sexual orgasm. The advertisements of fashion luxury product are characterized as (1) popularization of luxury, (2) objectification of sex and body, and (3) re-aestetification of anti-aesthetics. The asvertisements of fashion luxury products are actually targeted to the middle class with successful career women's images. They objectify female bodies through fetishistic images. Also, the deviant subcultural style, represented a new kind of cultural capital, is now reproduced as a new commodity aesthetics.
