This study evaluated the displacements of a Cu bar in the Y-direction and the relationship between swaging pressures and total contact forces to increase the productivity of the rotor core swaging process. Elastic-plastic numerical analyses of four different Cu bar shapes were performed with a constant swaging pressure to evaluate the displacements of the Cu bar in the Y-direction and the contact force distributions at the contact surfaces during the swaging process. Based on the numerical analysis results, the following conclusions were obtained. First, a simplified 2-dimensional cyclic symmetric analysis model was developed for the numerical analysis of the rotor core swaging process. Second, the final displacements of the Cu bar in the Y-direction were nearly the same as the change of the Cu bar size at a constant swaging pressure. Third, a linear relationship between the swaging pressures and the total contact forces, the so called resistance forces, was suggested.

In this study, main works are focused on investigating the stress distribution at the interface between a rotor core and Cu bar when a punch is applied into the body of Cu bar. A parametric study with dimensional changes of core slot was performed numerically to identify what factors are dominant in producing high contact forces in the interface. As analysis results, it was found that core slot length was a dominant factor in increasing contact force at the interface between a rotor core and Cu bar.
Melt-extrusion process, a metallic melt poured and solidified up to semisolid state in the container can be directly extruded through the die exit to form a product of bar shape without other intermediate processes. In this study, the fabrication characteristics of the process were evaluated with various process parameters, such as preheating temperature of extrusion dies, extrusion temperature and extrusion ratio. AI-Cu alloys were successfully extruded after squeezing out of liquid during melt-extrusion with smaller force compared to the solid extrusion. Soundly AI-Cu alloy bar was fabricated at the preheating temperature of $500{\sim}520^{\circ}C$. The range of extrusion temperature for soundly melt-extruded AI-Cu alloy bar was increased with increasing extrusion ratio. Mechanical properties of melt-extruded AI-Cu alloy bars were found change with Cu content of the melt-extruded bars due to the occurrence of segregation. The various extrusion temperature yielded equiaxed structure with a grains size about 200 ${\mu}m$.

Hydrogen permeation performance was analyzed by manufacturing Pd and Pd-Cu membranes through electroless plating. As a support for the Pd and Pd-Cu membranes, α-Al2O3 ceramic hollow fiber were used. Pd-Cu membrane was manufactured through sequential electroless plating, and then annealing was performed at 500°C, for 18 h in a hydrogen atmosphere to make Pd and Cu alloy. After annealing, the Pd-Cu membrane confirmed that the alloy was formed through EDS (Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy) and XRD (X-ray Diffraction) analysis. In addition, the thickness of the Pd and Pd-Cu plating layers were measured to be about 3.21 and 3.72 µm, respectively, through SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) analysis. Hydrogen permeation performance was tested for hydrogen permeation in the range of 350~450°C and 1~4 bar in hydrogen single gas and mixed gas (H2, N2). In a single hydrogen gas, Pd and Pd-Cu membranes have flux of up to 54.42 and 67.17 ml/cm2⋅ min at 450 °C and 4 bar. In the mixed gas, it was confirmed that the separation factors of 1308 and 453 were obtained under the conditions of 450 °C and 4 bar.

This study evaluates the magnitudes and distributions of contact tangential forces with the swaging depth of punch acting at the contact surfaces between a rotor core slot and a Cu bar during a sequential rotor core swaging process. The effects of the core slot shape on the magnitudes and distributions of the total contact forces were investigated to improve the productivity of the rotor core swaging process. Parametric elastic-plastic numerical analyses were performed using simplified two-dimensional cyclic symmetric plane strain models to evaluate the contact force distributions at the contact surfaces. The numerical analysis results show that the total contact tangential forces increased by about 55% with the adjacent Cu bar swaging process. The length of the core slot is a dominant factor in the core slot design as result of the increased total contact tangential forces during the swaging process of the rotor core.

A process map has been developed, which can identify the process conditions for weak mechanical bonding at the contact surface during the direct extrusion of a Cu-Ti bimetal bar. Bonding mechanism between Cu and Ti was assumed as a cold pressure welding. Then, the plastic deformation at the contact zone causes mechanical bonding and a new bonding criterion for pressure welding was developed as a function of the principal stretch ratio and normal pressure at the contact surface by analyzing micro local extrusion at the contact zone. Finite element analyses for extrusion of Cu-Ti bimetal bars were performed for various process conditions. The deformation history at the contact surface was traced and the proposed new bonding criterion was applied to predict whether the mechanical bonding at the Cu-Ti contact surface happens. Finally, a process map for the extrusion of Cu-Ti bimetal bar is suggested.
The kinetic and equilibrium characteristics of copper extraction by salicylaldoxime in chloroform and benzene were investigated. Equilibrium constants such as dissociation constant, distribution coefficient of salicylaldoxime and stability constant, distribution coefficient and molar extinction coefficient of oxime-Cu chelate were determined from absorbance. Extracted species of Cu-chelate were found to be ${\bar{CuR_2}}$. Overall initial extraction rate of copper by salicylaldoxime in chloroform was expressed by the following equation : $R=k[Cu^{2+}]{\bar{[HR]}}^{0.5}/[H^+]^{0.4}$.

In this experiment, Pd-Ag-Cu membrane was manufactured using electroless plating on an α-Al2O3 support. Pd, Ag and Cu were each coated on the surface of the support through electroless plating and heat treatment was performed for 18 h at 500℃ in H2 in the middle of electroless plating to form Pd alloy. The surface of the Pd-Ag-Cu membrane was observed through Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and the thickness of the Pd membrane was measured to be 7.82 ㎛ and the thickness of the Pd-Ag-Cu membrane was measured to be 3.54 ㎛. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the formation of a Pd-Ag-Cu alloy with a composition of Pd-78wt%, Ag-8.81wt% and Cu-13.19wt%. The gas permeation experiment was conducted under the conditions of 350~450℃ and 1~4 bar in H2 single gas and H2/N2 mixed gas. The maximum H2 flux of the hydrogen separation membrane measured in H2 single gas is 74.16 ml/cm2·min at 450℃ and 4 bar for the Pd membrane and 113.64 ml/cm2·min at 450℃ and 4 bar for the Pd-Ag-Cu membrane. In the case of the separation factor measured in H2/N2 mixed gas, separation factors of 2437 and 11032 were measured at 450℃ and 4 bar.
The Hanae deposit is located within the Cretaceous Gyeongsang Basin. The Cu-bearing hydrothermal quartz vein formed by narrow open-space filling along fracture in the sedimentary rocks as Jindong Formation. The Hanae Cu-bearing hydrothermal deposit shows a paragenetic sequence of pyrrhotite-pyrite $\rightarrow$ pyrite-chalcopyrite-sphalerite(${\pm}$Bi-bearing tellurides) $\rightarrow$ Ag-bearing telluride mineralization $\rightarrow$ secondary mineralization. Fluid inclusion data indicate that the Hanae Cu-bearing hydrothermal mineralization occurred from dominantly aqueous fluids at temperatures of $400^{\circ}C-200^{\circ}C$. Equilibrium thermodynamic interpretation of the mineral paragenesis and assemblages combined with fluid inclusion data indicate that early main Cu-bearing ore mineralization in the vein starts at about $350^{\circ}C$ which corresponds to sulfur fugacity from about $10^{-9.2}$ to $10^{-8.7}bar$ with oxygen fugacity of about $10^{-32.1}$ to $10^{-29.8}bar$. Late main Cu-bearing ore mineralization in the vein occurs at about $250^{\circ}C$ which corresponds to sulfur fugacity from about $10^{-13.5}$ to $10^{-11.7}bar$ with oxygen fugacity of about $10^{-38.4}$ to $10^{-35.2}bar$. The late Ag-bearing telluride mineralization in the Hanae hydrothermal system occurs at about $200^{\circ}C$ which corresponds to minium Tellirium fugacity value of about $10^{-18}bar$ with sulfur fugacity of about $10^{-14.0}$ to $10^{-10.9}bar$.
Mg-23.5 wt%Ni-xwt%Cu (x = 2.5, 5 and 7.5) samples for hydrogen storage were prepared by melt spinning and crystallization heat treatment from a Mg-23.5 wt%Ni-5 wt%Cu alloy synthesized by the gravity casting method. They were then ground under $H_2$ to obtain a fine powder. Among these samples the Mg-23.5Ni-2.5Cu sample had the highest hydriding and dehydriding rates after activation. The Mg-23.5Ni-2.5Cu sample absorbed 3.59 and 4.01 wt%H for 10 and 60 min, respectively, at 573K under 12 bar $H_{2}$. The activated 88(87.5Mg-10Ni-2.5Cu)-$5Nb_{2}O_{5}-7NbF_{5}$ sample absorbed 2.93 wt%H for 10 min, and 3.14 wt%H for 60 min at 573K under 12 bar $H_{2}$.
