Hydrophilic treatment of the packing materials in a cooling tower has been made by the ion assisted reaction (IAR) method to increase the wettability of the packing materials. The effects of hydrophilic treatment of packing materials on the performance of a cooling tower have been investigated in a wide range of operating parameters, such as water flow rate, air flow rate, and the water inlet temperature. A pilot cooling tower has been designed and built to model a counter-flow cooling tower. The results obtained indicate that the packing characteristic value with hydrophilic packing could be substantially increased by 6∼19.3% than that with conventional packing in the operating ranges considered. The correlations of the packing characteristic value as a function of water-to-air ratio are suggested for a counter-flow cooling tower with hydrophilic packing as well as with conventional packing.
Our government will make a plan regulating the cooling limit temperature of the summer season to 26 degree and the heating limit temperature of the winter season to 20 degree for energy saving. Where, the key point of this politic pursuit can be the charge system on heating and cooling cost. We have suggested new cost allocation methodology as a worth evaluation method in the precedent study, and preformed the worth evaluation and cost allocation on four kind of warm air produced from a heating system as an example. In this study, we applied the suggested method to four kind of cooling air as an example, and preformed the worth evaluation and cost allocation on each cooling air. As a result, similarly to the precedent study, the more energy a customer saved, the more heating unit cost decreased, and the more energy a customer consumed, the more heating unit cost increased. From this analysis, we hope that the suggested methodology can offer a theoretical basis to the politic pursuit of government, and induce the spontaneous energy saving of consumers.
This paper proposes a cooling system using thermoelectric elements for improving the output of building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) modules. The temperature characteristics that improve the output of a BIPV system have rarely been studied up to now but some researchers have proposed a method using a ventilator. The efficiency of a ventilator depends mainly on the weather such as wind, irradiation etc. Because this cooling system is so sensitive to the velocity of the wind, it is unable to operate in the nominal operating cell temperature (NOCT) or the standard test condition (STC) which allow it to generate the maximum output. This paper proposes a cooling system using thermoelectric elements to solve such problems. The temperature control of thermoelectric elements can be controlled independently in an outdoor environment because it is performed by a micro-controller. In addition, it can be operated around the NOCT or the STC through an algorithm for temperature control. Therefore, the output of the system is increased and the efficiency is raised. This paper proves the validity of the proposed method by comparing the data obtained through experiments on the cooling systems of BIPV modules using a ventilator and thermoelectric elements.

From a rapid cooling to a slow cooling in the actual cooling process in shipyards, the phase of steel becomes martensite, bainite, ferrite, and pearlite. In order to simulate the cooling process, heat transfer analysis was performed considering the effects of impinging water jet, film boiling, and radiation. From above simulation it is possible to find the cooling speed at the inherent strain region and volume percentage of all phases in that region. By the suggested method based on the precise material properties calculated from volume percentage of all phases, it will be possible to predict the plate deformations by line heating more precisely. It is verified by comparing with some experimental results that the present method is very effective and efficient.

Battery heat management is essential for high power and high energy battery system because it affects its performance, longevity, and safety. In this paper, we investigated the temperature of the 18650 Lithium Ion Battery Module used in a Energy Storage System (ESS) and the cooling method to minimize cell-to-cell temperature variation of battery module. For uniform temperature distribution within a battery module, the flow direction of the coolant in a battery module has been changed according to the time interval, and studied the effect of the cooling method on the temperature uniformity in a battery module which includes a number of battery cells. The experimental results show that bi-directional battery cooling method can effectively reduce the cell-to-cell temperature variation compared with the one-directional battery cooling. Furthermore, it is also found that bi-directional battery cooling can reduce the maximum temperature in a battery module.
The study was to analysis the dispersion of the cooling water of Kori atomic power station using thermal infrared data. The dispersion pattern of the cooling water analysis clearly on the LANDSAT TM band 6. It was changed due to tidal current, that is, the cooling water disperses north-eastern direction during the low tide and southweatern direction during the high tide. The relative temperature distribution was mapped through the density slicing method on the images.

A number of structures constructed during past decades have suffered from safety and serviceability problems due to deterioration and many engineers have been increasingly concerned about durability of concrete. Pipe-cooling method has been popularly used in the massive concrete to reduce temperature of the structure. Until now, usually this pipe-cooling method was applied only in foundation concrete structures, but it is newly tried to apply in the wall structure. We analyzed thermal stress of wall structure with the general structural analysis program that will be able to express the pipe-cooling element. We studied about the effect of reducing temperature and cracking control in the wall structure which can be applied in a pipe-cooling method with the analytical result which follows in an arrangement of the cooling pipe.

In this study, it induced to a conclusion below by experiment consideration to regarding an effective supercooling ends method of the flow cooling water in a tube of continuous ice making method and the static cooling water in a tube of continuous ice making method which used magneticfluid in a dynamic type ice storage system. Continuous ice making in a tube of the flow cooling water was shortened about 12 minutes until supercooling ends that case which gave vertical eccentricity rotation magnetic field 120rpm than did not provide magnetic field by experimental result that was tested to supercooling ends effect from shape control of magneticfluid. Continuous ice making method in a tube of the static cooling water compared with and reviewed the case that was not provided with the magnetic field and exposed cooling surface instantaneously by magnetic field. It confirmed that supercooling degree $\Delta$$T_{c}$, $\Delta$$T_{s}$, and $\Delta$$T_{w}$ became lower because of heat transfering increasing by the occurrence of natural convection between after cooling starting progress time 1∼3 minutes if it did not give a magnetic field, and peformed the supercooling ends when natural convection occurred confirmed that refrigerating capacity was better. That relation $\Delta$$T_{c}$, and $t_{e}$/($\Delta$$T_{c}$-$\Delta$$T_{s}$) after convection occurred, was not depended on $T_{b}$ and initial temperature if the depth of water and thickness of magneticfluid were regular and it was possible to verify conjecture of tp from $\Delta$$T_{s}$ and $\Delta$$T_{c}$.lar and it was possible to verify conjecture of tp from $\Delta$$T_{s}$ and $\Delta$$T_{c}$.c}$.>.

Two problems with jet injection through the cylindrical film cooling hole are 1) penetration of jet into mainstream rather than covering the surface at high blowing rates and 2) nonuniformity of the film cooling effectiveness in the lateral direction. Compound angle injection is employed to reduce those two problems. Compound angle injection increases the film cooling effectiveness and spreads more widely. However, there is still lift off at high blowing rates. Shaped film cooling hole is a possible means to reduce those two problems. Film cooling with the shaped hole is investigated in this study experimentally. Film cooling hole used in present study is a shaped hole with conically enlarged exit and Inlet-to-exit area ratio is 2.55. Naphthalene sublimation method has been employed to study the local heat/mass transfer coefficient and film cooling effectiveness for compound injection angles and various blowing rates around the shaped film cooling hole. Enlarged hole exit area reduces the momentum of the jet at the hole exit and prevents the penetration of injected jet into the mainstream effectively. Hence, higher and more uniform film cooling effectiveness values are obtained even at relatively high blowing rates and the film cooling jet spreads more widely with the shaped film cooling hole. And the injected jet protects the surface effectively at low blowing rates and spreads more widely with the compound angle injections than the axial injection.
