  • Structural optimization using improved higer-order convex approximation is proposed in this paper. The proposed method is a generalization of the convex approximation method. The order of the approximation function for each constraint is automatically adjusted in the optimization process. And also the order of each design variable is differently adjusted. This self-adjusted capability makes the approximate constraint values conservative enough to maintain the optimum design point of the approximate problem in feasible region. The efficiency of proposed algorithm, compared with conventional algorithm is successfully demonstrated in the Three-bar Truss example.

  • Visualization of 2D and 3D data, which arises from some scientific phenomena, physical model or mathematical formula, in the form of curve or surface view is one of the important topics in Computer Graphics. The problem gets critically important when data possesses some inherent shape feature. For example, it may have positive feature in one instance and monotone in the other. This paper is concerned with the solution of similar problems when data has convex shape and its visualization is required to have similar inherent features to that of data. A rational cubic function [5] has been used for the review of visualization of 2D data. After that it has been generalized for the visualization of 3D data. Moreover, simple sufficient constraints are made on the free parameters in the description of rational bicubic functions to visualize the 3D convex data in the view of convex surfaces.

  • Local polynomial regression is widely used because of good properties such as such as the adaptation to various types of designs, the absence of boundary effects and minimax efficiency Choi and Hall (1998) proposed an estimator of regression function using a convex combination idea. They showed that a convex combination of three local linear estimators produces an estimator which has the same order of bias as a local cubic smoother. In this paper we suggest another estimator of regression function based on a convex combination of five local constant estimates. It turned out that this estimator has the same order of bias as a local cubic smoother.

  • We aim in this article to establish variants of the Hadamard inequality for Caputo fractional derivatives. We present the Hadamard inequality for strongly (s, m)-convex functions which will provide refinements as well as generalizations of several such inequalities already exist in the literature. The error bounds of these inequalities are also given by applying some known identities. Moreover, various associated results are deduced.

  • Convex combination of two adaptive filters is an efficient method to improve adaptive filter performances. In this paper, a subband convex combination method of two adaptive filters for fast convergence rate in the transient state and low steady state error is presented. The cost function of mixing parameter for a subband convex combination is defined, and from this, the coefficient update equation is derived. Steady state analysis is used to prove the stability of the subband convex combination. Some simulation examples in system identification scenario show the validity of the subband convex combination schemes.

  • The notions of spherically concave functions defined on a subregion of the Riemann sphere P are introduced in different ways in Kim & Minda [The hyperbolic metric and spherically convex regions. J. Math. Kyoto Univ. 41 (2001), 297-314] and Kim & Sugawa [Charaterizations of hyperbolically convex regions. J. Math. Anal. Appl. 309 (2005), 37-51]. We show continuity of the concave function defined in the latter and show that the two notions of the concavity are equivalent for a function of class $C^2$. Moreover, we find more characterizations for spherically concave functions.

  • This talk discusses conditions on the numerical range of a holomorphic function defined on a bounded convex domain in a complex Banach space that imply that the function has a unique fixed point. In particular, extensions of the Earle-Hamilton Theorem are given for such domains. The theorems are applied to obtain a quantitative version of the inverse function theorem for holomorphic functions and a distortion form of Cartan's unique-ness theorem.

  • The Jensen and Mercer inequalities are very important inequalities in information theory. The article provides the generalization of Mercer's inequality for convex functions on the line segments. This result contains Mercer's inequality as a particular case. Also, we investigate bounds for Shannon's entropy and give some new applications in zeta function and analysis.
