  • In the LED lighting industry, the dimming function in the LED lamp is required by demands of many consumers. To drive this LED lighting, various types of power converters have been applied. Among them, an LLC resonant converter could be applied for high power LED lighting because of its high efficiency and high power density, etc. The function of power factor correction (PFC) might be added to it. In this paper, a dimmable single-stage asymmetrical LLC resonant converter is proposed. The proposed converter performs both input-current harmonics reduction and PFC using the discontinuous conduction mode (DCM). Also, the lower voltage stress across switching devices as well as the zero voltage switching (ZVS) in switching devices is realized by the proposed topology. It can reduce cost and has high efficiency of the driver. In addition, the regulation of the output power by variable switching frequency can vary the brightness of a light. In the proposed converter, one of the attractive advantages doesn’t need any extra control circuits for the dimming function. To verify the performance of the proposed converter, simulation and experimental results from a 300W prototype are provided.

  • In this paper, a revolutionary buck converter is proposed with soft-switching technology, which is realized by a coupled inductor. Both zero-voltage switching (ZVS) of main switch and zero-current switching (ZCS) of freewheeling diode are achieved at turn on and turn off without using any auxiliary circuits by the resonance between the parasitic capacitor and the coupled inductor. Furthermore, the peak voltages of the main switch and the peak current of the freewheeling diode are significantly reduced by the coupled inductor. As a result, the proposed converter has the advantages of simple circuit, convenient control, low consumption and so on. The detailed operation principles and steady-state analysis of the proposed ZVS-ZCS buck converter are presented, and detailed power loss analysis and some simulation results are also included. Finally, experimental results based on a 200-W prototype are provided to verify the theory and design of the proposed converter.

  • A new PWM-controlled quasi-resonant converter for a high efficiency PDP sustaining power module is proposed in this paper. The load regulation of the proposed converter can be achieved by controlling the ripple of the resonant voltage across the resonant capacitor with a bi-directional auxiliary circuit, while the main switches are operating at a fixed duty ratio and fixed switching frequency. Hence, the waveforms of the currents can be expected to be optimized from the view-point of conduction loss. Furthermore, the proposed converter has good ZVS capability, simple control circuits, no high voltage ringing problem of rectifier diodes, no DC offset of the magnetizing current and low voltage stresses of power switches. In this paper, operational principles, features of the proposed converter, and analysis and design considerations are presented. Experimental results demonstrate that the output voltage can be controlled well by the auxiliary circuit using the PWM method.

  • Conventionally, ZVS FB DC/DC converter was controlled by monolithic IC UC3879, which includes the functions of oscillator, error amplifier and phase-shift circuit. Also, microprocessor and DSP have been widely used for the remote control and for the immediate waveform control in ZVS FB DC/DC converter. However the conventional microprocessor controller is complex and difficult to control because the controller consists of analog and digital parts. In the case of the control of FB DC/DC converter, the output is required of driving a direct signal to the switch drive circuits by the digital controller. So, this paper presents the method and realization of designing the digital-to-phase shift PWM circuit controlled by DSP (TMX320C32) in a 2,500A, 40㎾ ZVS FB DC/DC converter.

  • This paper presents a single switch, high step-up, non-isolated dc-dc converter suitable for renewable energy applications. The proposed converter is composed of a coupled inductor, a passive clamp circuit, a switched capacitor and voltage lift circuits. The passive clamp recovers the leakage inductance energy of the coupled inductor and limits the voltage spike on the switch. The configuration of the passive clamp and switched capacitor circuit increases the voltage gain. A wide continuous conduction mode (CCM) operation range, a low turn ratio for the coupled inductor, low voltage stress on the switch, switch turn on under almost zero current switching (ZCS), low voltage stress on the diodes, leakage inductance energy recovery, high efficiency and a high voltage gain without a large duty cycle are the benefits of this converter. The steady state operation of the converter in the continuous conduction mode (CCM) and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) is discussed and analyzed. A 200W prototype converter with a 28V input and a 380V output voltage is implemented and tested to verify the theoretical analysis.

  • A simulation study of a current-mode direct current (DC)-DC buck converter is presented in this paper. The converter, with a fully integrated power module, is implemented by using sense method metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) and bipolar complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (BiCMOS) technology. When the MOSFET is used in a current sensor, the sensed inductor current with an internal ramp signal can be used for feedback control. In addition, the BiCMOS technology is applied in the converter for an accurate current sensing and a low power consumption. The DC-DC converter is designed using the standard $0.35\;{\mu}m$ CMOS process. An off-chip LC filter is designed with an inductance of 1 mH and a capacitance of 12.5 nF. The simulation results show that the error between the sensing signal and the inductor current can be controlled to be within 3%. The characteristics of the error amplification and output ripple are much improved, as compared to converters using conventional CMOS circuits.

This A/D converter consists of a transconductance circuit, linear folder circuit and 1bit A/D converter circuit. In H-spice simulation results, linear folder circuits having high linearity can be obtained when the current mode is used instead of voltage mode. And in case of 6bit, the delay time is limited about 40ns. From this results, 6bit 25MSPS A/D converter circuit can be realized.

PMIC is controlled with PWM control method in order to have high power efficiency at high current level. DTMOS with low on-resistance is designed to decrease conduction loss. The control parts in Buck converter, that is, PWM control circuits consist of a saw-tooth generator, a band-gap reference circuit, an error amplifier and a comparator circuit as a block. The Saw-tooth generator is made to have 1.2 MHz oscillation frequency and full range of output swing from ground to supply voltage(VDD:3.3V). The comparator is designed with two stage OP amplifier. And the error amplifier has 70dB DC gain and $64^{\circ}$ phase margin. DC-DC converter, based on Voltage-mode PWM control circuits and low on-resistance switching device, achieved the high efficiency near 95% at 100mA output current. And DC-DC converter is designed with LDO in stand-by mode which fewer than 1mA for high efficiency.

The proposed converter primary is the full-bridge power topology that operates with the unipolar pulse-width modulation (PWM) by the phase-shift method, and the secondary is the full-bridge full-wave rectifier composed of four diodes. The control of proposed converter is performed by the one-chip micom and its MOSFET switches are driven by the bootstrap circuit. Thus the total system of proposed converter is simple. The proposed converter achieves high-efficiency using the resonant circuit and blocking capacitor. In this paper, first, the power-circuit operation of proposed converter is explained according to each operation mode. And the power-circuit design method of proposed converter is shown, and the software control algorithm on the micom and the feedback and switch drive circuits operating the proposed converter are described, briefly. Then, the operation characteristics of proposed converter are validated through the experimental results of a designed and implemented prototype converter by the shown design and implementation method in this paper. The highest efficiency in the results was about 92%.
