  • Purpose: Green soybeans (edamame) are now an economically important and popular food product in Japan. In order to shorten breeding time and to decide an optimal harvest time, we have been developing a dedicated NIRT spectrometer since 2004 for the determination of constituent content such as sucrose and free amino acids, which are two major contributors to the eating quality, in a single pod green soybean. Methods: The obtained models showed that the developed NIRT instrument had reasonable accuracy for the determination of these two components. Then we carried out the investigation into the change in two components during a few days storage using these models with changing time, variety/cultivar, packaging and temperature. Results: The result showed that the most affecting factor on decreasing both sucrose content and free amino acids was variety/cultivar. The time, packaging and temperature also affected significantly in most cases.

  • To find out antitumor active principles from natural resources, we have evaluated various extracts from the leaves of Alnus hirsuta (Betulaceae). The ethylacetate extract of this plant was found to show a significant cytotoxicity against several kinds of cultured human solid tumor cell lines (AGS, A5 49, HCT15, SKOV3, HEP3B) in vitro. Using cytotoxicity-guided chromatographic purification of the ethylacetate extract, cytotoxic constituent:1,7-bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-5-(${\beta}$-D-glucopyranosyloxy)-3-heptanone, was isolated and structurally identified by physico-chemical properties and spectroscopic evidences.

  • Heteromagnetic nanostructures, which consist of two or more different layers such as nonmagnet, insulator, ferromagnet, antiferromagnet, and superconductor, have been widely used in current and likely future spintronics devices. Their many intriguing magnetic properties are originated from a variety of magnetic interactions at relevant length scales at or near interfaces and between different constituent layers as well as laterally different regions in chemical and magnetic heterogeneity. The fundamental properties can thus differ along depth and laterally in the film plane, depending on their relevant coupling length scales. The entire properties may be characterized by interface properties and/or the depth-varying properties of the individual constituent layers, and lateral inhomogeneity as well. It is a challenge to investigate both depth-varying properties and lateral heterogeneity in such heteromagnetic nanostructures. In this talk, soft x-ray magneto-optical effect as a nanometer scale probe of a variety of heteromagnetic structures is presented and its related noble techniques are introduced. For instances, magnetization vector imaging to investigate vector spin configurations in the film plane is presented, as well as the Kerr rotation, ellipticity, and intensity measurements as a depth sensitive probe on the atomic scales.

  • As component-based development (CBD) rapidly spread throughout the software industry, a comprehensive methodology is needed to apply it more systematically. For this purpose, a new CBD methodology named Magic & Robust Methodology Integrated III (MaRMI-III) has been developed. The purpose of this paper is to present MaRMI-III by its constituent processes and claim that it can be used to support system developers conduct CBD in a consistent manner. First, we review the CBD approach to system development and the role of CBD methodology, and then we explain the several characteristics of MaRMI-III which are considered necessary to the CBD environment. Next, we explain a process model of MaRMI-III which separates the development process from the project management process and prescribes well-ordered activities and tasks that the developer should conduct. Each phase forming the Process Model is explained in terms of its objectives and main constituent activities. Some techniques and workproducts related to each phase are also explained. Finally, to examine the usefulness of MaRMI-III, an analytical comparison with other CBD methodologies and the results of a questionnaire survey are described.

  • The limitation of constant for tide correction is identified using the T_tide $MATLAB^{(R)}$ package. A suggestion is presented in calculation of local phase lag(k) by a/15 (a is angular speed of any constituent in degree) from the g, phase lag measured by standard time meridian latitude.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyzes the administration actual situation of community living home in Korea. The results are as follows. First, community living home in Korea is distributed over the Jeonranam-do areas by approximately 67.7%, and distributed over 18 cities in the Jeonrabuk-do areas. Second, In a type of community living home, "Sharing residence type" accounts for approximately 97%. The reason of this is because it can save a budget by utilizing existing public accommodation. Third, the administration main constituent of community living home running in each city is a neighborhood association, but bears the administration expense in the local government. Fourth, as a result of having analyzed the representative example of the community living home, "Sharing residence type" knew that a per person necessary area was the insufficient. Finally, it is desirable for oneself of the neighborhood association to be in charge of the administration main constituent of the community living home basically.

  • This paper will examine the possibilities of the virtual tests of composite structures by simulating mechanical behaviors by using supercomputing technologies, which have now become easily available and powerful but relatively inexpensive. We will describe mainly the applications of large-scale finite element analysis using the direct numerical simulation (DNS), which describes composite material properties considering individual constituent properties. DNS approach is based on the full microscopic concepts, which can provide detailed information about the local interaction between the constituents and micro-failure mechanisms by separate modeling of each constituent. Various composite materials such as metal matrix composites (MMCs), active fiber composites (AFCs), boron/epoxy cross-ply laminates and 3-D orthogonal woven composites are selected as verification examples of DNS. The effective elastic moduli and impact structural characteristics of the composites are determined using the DNS models. These DNS models can also give the global and local information about deformations and influences of high local in-plane and interlaminar stresses induced by transverse impact loading at a microscopic level inside the materials. Furthermore, the multi-scale models based on DNS concepts considering microscopic and macroscopic structures simultaneously are also developed and a numerical low-velocity impact simulation is performed using these multi-scale DNS models. Through these various applications of DNS models, it can be shown that the DNS approach can provide insights of various structural behaviors of composite structures.

  • In this study, we analyzed the electrical loss characteristics between ribbon and output terminal of constituent material according to electrical resistance during interconnection process of PV module. From this result, the electrical output power reduction rate caused by interaction between ribbon and cell's interconnection was 2.88%. There was 1W electrical output power reduction through the 16 solar cells. So it is expected that the wider size of PV module gives the higher loss in electricity production. Also, the average output power of PV module passed lamination process was increased by 0.081W per one solar cell and the increase rate was 3.7%.PV module's electrical loss before and after lamination process according to constituent material's terminal was 0.49W and 0.50W, respectively.
