  • In this paper, a selective coefficient updating (SCU) approach at each branch of the per-tone equalization (PTEQ) structure has been applied for insufficient cyclic prefix (CP) length. Because of the high number of adaptive filters and their complex adaption process in the PTEQ structure, SCU has been proposed. Using this method leads to a reduction in the computational complexity, while the performance remains almost unchanged. Moreover, the use of set-membership filtering with variable step size is proposed for a sufficient CP case to increase convergence speed and decrease the average number of calculations. Simulation results show that despite the aforementioned algorithms having similar performance in comparison with conventional algorithms, they are able to reduce the number of calculations necessary. In addition, compensation of both the channel effect and the transmitter/receiver in-phase/quadrature-phase imbalances are achievable by these algorithms.

  • Mechanical components and structures are a major part of complex systems and the conseguences of their failure can be extremely costly. The ultimate goal of design engineers is to optimize these mechanical and structural design from the point of view of cost, reliability, weight, volume, maintainability and safety. An essential requirement of design optimization is to develop mathematical models for reliability at design stage. This paper is to minimize the cost of resources subject to the constraint that the reliability of the system must meet a specified level. The lagrange multiplier method is used to optimize the lognormal stress-lognormal strength problem. This optimization problem can be reduced to a search problem in one variable. A numerical example is presented to illustrate the optimization problem.

  • A heuristic algorithm (SIMICOM) has been designed and tested for optimizing simulated stochastic systems whose performances are functions of several discrete decision variables. The approach adopted utilizes an integer complex method coupled with techniques of establishing confidence intervals for the system's responses. It can handle a general class of optimization problems that could be constrained or unconstrained. In constrained cases, the constraints could either be explicit analytical functions of decision variables or be expressed as other responses of the simulation model. In addition to obtain a reasonably accurate solution, the economic aspect of obtaining the solution has also been taken into consideration.

  • A reliable computational solver has been developed for the analysis of three-dimensional inviscid compressible flows around a nacelle of a high bypass ratio turbofan engine, The numerical algorithm is based on the modified Godunov scheme to allow the second order accuracy for space variables, while keeping the monotone features. Two step time integration is used not only to remove time step limitation but also to provide the second order accuracy in a time variable. The multi-block approach is employed to calculate the complex flow field, using an algebraic, conformal, and elliptic method. The exact solution of Riemann problem is used to define boundary conditions. The accuracy of the developed solver is validated by comparing its results around the isolated nacelle in the cruise flight regime with the solution obtained using a commercial code "RAMPANT. "

  • In this paper, we consider the synthesis of mixed H$_{2}$/H$_{\infty}$ controllers such that the closed-loop poles are located in a specified region in the complex plane. Using solution to a generalized Riccati equation and a change of variable technique, it is shown that this synthesis problem can be reduced to a convex optimization problem over a bounded subset of matrices. This convex programming can be further reduced to Generalized Eigenvalue Minimization Problem where Interior Point method has been recently developed to efficiently solve this problem..

  • This paper deals with the fault diagnosis problem in uncertain linear systems having undermodelling, linearization errors and noise inputs. The new approach proposed in this paper uses an appropriate test variable and the difference between system parameters which are estimated by the least squares method to locate the fault. The singular value decomposion is used to decouple the correlation between the estimated system parameters and to observe the trend of parameter changes. Some simulations applied to aircraft ergines show good allocation of the fault even though the system model has significant uncertainties. The feature of the approach is to diagnose the uncertain system through simple parameter operations and not to need complex calculations in the diagnosis procedure as compared with other methods.

  • A modified procedure for electroplating wastewater treatment using formaldehyde and hydrogen peroxide can destroy free cyanide. The representative diagram which is quite sensitive on reaction temperature is showed for this kinds of treatment. Principally free cyanide and some kinds of cyanide complex should be treated first, and then toxic heavy metals can be removed because cyanide component will be inhibited to remove other pollutants, if it is not destroyed perfectly. Formaldehyde and hydrogen peroxide are added in controlled amounts to cyanide treatment tank. Reasonable amounts of these chemicals are (HCHO/CN)=0.9 and ($H_2O_2/CN$)=1.1 in molar ratios, it is also variable on reaction temperature. Of course, actual treatment processes depending on plating material and chemical are good applicable, also to systematize operation manual for treating electroplating wastewater process, further works are desirable.

  • In the past couple of years, there has been increasing interest in the fusion of neural networks and fuzzy logic. Most of the existing fused models have been proposed to implement different types of fuzzy reasoning mechanisms and inevitably they suffer from the dimensionality problem when dealing with complex real-world problem. To overcome the problem, we propose the self-organizing networks with activation nodes based on fuzzy inference and polynomial function. The proposed model consists of two parts, one is fuzzy nodes which each node is operated as a small fuzzy system with fuzzy implication rules, and its fuzzy system operates with Gaussian or triangular MF in Premise part and constant or regression polynomials in consequence part. the other is polynomial nodes which several types of high-order polynomials such as linear, quadratic, and cubic form are used and are connected as various kinds of multi-variable inputs. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, time series data for gas furnace process has been applied.

  • Using the CFD method, we investigated the combustion characteristics of grate-rotary kiln incinerator through the residence time, path line of flow and distributions of temperature and CO mass fraction according to the shape of mixing chamber and the existence and nonexistence of baffle at the exit of bypass duct. The results show that the now mixing and residence time could be variable according to the shape of mixing chamber and baffle, and we could know the temperature in the mixing chamber could increase too high if the combustion process on the grate retarded.

  • This paper deals with a fundamental and classical scattering problem by a finite strip. For the analysis of scattered acoustic field, a “single” integral equation is derived. Firstly, the complexity by considering the effect of the mean flow is alleviated by the introduction of Prandtl-Glauert coordinate and the new dependent variable. Secondly, the difficulty of solving the resultant strongly-coupled integral equations which always appear in this kind of 3-part mixed boundary value problem is solved by observing some good properties of the functions in complex domain and manipulating the equations and variables for the use of those properties. The solution can be obtained asymptotically in terms of gamma function and Whittaker function. One aim of this study is the improvement of methodology for the research using integral equations. The other is the basic understanding of scattering by a finite strip related to the linear cascade model of rotating fan blades.
