  • In this research we present a new model, PLCM(Cort-Logistics Chain Management), which can cooperate each other in the port-logistic industry that occupy a heavy rain in the Northeast Asian economy. PLCM(Port-Logistics Chain Management) synthetically manages the logistic chain and information laying stress on the port. Unlike SCM, which hat a vertical relationship between the main groups to cooperate each other, PLCM has a horizontal relationchip between the ports to achieve common purpose and to improve their whole competitive power. In this research we present a concept of PLCM and a specific plan to develop a system for PLCM targetting Pusan, Shanghai, and Tokyo Port which occupy a heavy rain in the Northeast Asian port industry. This system is composed of integrated information system and EDI document exchange system according to the special quality of user's request information. And in order to prove its feasibility and validity, the case study sailing from Shanghai to Busan has been applied to this study.

  • This study is to develop a curriculum for training workers in the port logistics field. NSC is a standardized method improving the capability and knowledge scientifically and systematically in order for individual to carry out its own job and task successfully. To develop a curriculum for workers in the port logistics field, the following methodology is used. First, questionnaire is carried out. Second, a MECE method is used to draw out a proper education programme. This study can contribute to improving the job capability of employers working at the port logistics industry. Further, it can improve firms' competitive power and furthermore national competitive edge by introducing the filed-oriented training programme to port logistics industry. In the future, a developed education is to be applied and evaluated through more intensified industry, academy, research linkage.

  • The purpose of this research is to verify the strategic fitness and relevance of the distribution park for a hub port in Northeast Asia and to find a method to be a hub-port with a competitive edge. The strategic factor of distribution park development are policy, methodology and promotion method So these factors are analysed by structural equation model. The essential results of the research show that distribution park should be actually developed to produce value-added and to be port cluster.

  • Busan port, which had ranked at 3rd busiest port following Singapore and Hong Kong in 2002, has been nudged out of 5th place. Growth of China ports threatens Korea ports to be a hub port in Far East Asia. Therefore, Korea ports are needed to establish competitive strategies to overcome a crisis of local ports. In this paper, the question, 'Who is my competitor?' is examined There is a different aspect between this work and many studies that has been done before, because the fore studies focused on the competitive factors or port efficiencies. Above all, the meaning of competition among ports has been summarized through existing literatures. Next. the competition structure among ports is researched, based 0/1 import-export traffic of five local ports including Busan.

  • The purpose of this research is to verify the strategic fitness and relevance of the hub port strategy by SCM in Northeast Asia and to find a method to be a hub-port with a competitive edge. The fitness of the hub port development strategy is analysed by the structural equation model. The essential results of the research show that minimizing lead time from arrival of ship to inland transport and maximizing logistic services of each stage are important to provide optimal logistic service. And value-added port supply chain strategy is highly co-related with all the parts of port operation system, port transport system, distribution park and port information system. It shows that: various value added logistic service activity is more important than lowing cost; inland multimodal system should be rightly connected; distribution park should be connected to industry park to be a port cluster; and port information system should be developed.

  • This study analyzed changes in the competitive structure of the global shipping container market and the appropriate capacity of the container fleet in Korea from three perspectives. The competitive market analysis applied the market concentration ratio and Hirschman-Herfindahl index, while the appropriate capacity analysis was based on the following three aspects: (1) Fleet capacity to secure competitiveness in the global shipping alliance; (2) Fleet capacity to increase national fleet coverage of domestic import and export container cargo; and (3) Fleet capacity analysis through the panel model considering the characteristics of the major shipping countries. Analysis of the global shipping container market reveals an oligopoly industry, and Korea's container fleet capacity is insufficient across all three analyses.

  • With the introduction of supply chain management concept, the nature of a firm is fundamentally changed. Control is no longer based on direct control of the business processes, but rather based on integration across member organizations in the supply chain. Firms are trying to achieve a competitive edge by managing their supply chain performance to gain advantages in cost and service differentiation. The supply chain elements of a sea port involves ILSP (Inbound Logistics Service Provider) at the input side and OLSP (Outbound Logistics Service Provider) at the output side. The goal of sea port is to satisfy the needs of different parties, both upstream and downstream, in the chain with greater effectiveness and efficiency than it's competitors. In this context, the purpose of this paper is to derive conceptualization of the SCP (Supply Chain Performance) in the sea port from literature review on the previous researches and to tackle their theoretical and practical implications. The paper deals with conceptualizing SCP in sea port using the SCOR (Supply Chain Operation Reference) model. It incorporates both the effectiveness and efficiency aspects of performance measurement. And it also recognizes customer related reasons for measuring performance.

  • What is the national competitive power\ulcorner What are the determinants of national competitive advantage\ulcorner In order to find these problems, this study was initiated theoretically through the international trade theory and international managerial strategic theory. The flow of studies, in connection with these competitive advantage, come into industries competitive advantage from national competitive advantage. It is understood that the flow of studies is based on the change of paradigm about the international industry environment. Today, the international industry environment has been changed into vigorous situation with the new trade system such as globalization, UR negotiation, WTO system instead of GATT. Among these environments, all enterprises in any industries should try to enhance their benefit, income profits and develop their management strategy, because it is essential for them to keep and make a profit in order to be competitive against all other rivaling enterprises. According to researchers and the ages of history, the concept and determinants of competitive advantage have been dissimiliar as followings. 1) Theory of absolute advantage : Absolute Product Cost. 2) Theory of comparative advantage : Comparative Product Cost. 3) Theory of reciprocal demand : the Reciprocal Demand Structure. 4) Theory of Hechsher-Ohlin : Factor Endowment. 5) Paradox of Leontief : the Quality of Factor Endowment. 6) Theory of technological gap : R & D. 7) Technological gap model : The Technological Gap. 8) Theory of the product life cycle : Product Life Cycle. 9) Christensen's study : Firm's character & manager's character. 10) Monopolistic Advantage Theories : Monopolistic Advantage 11) Electic theory : Ownership, location and internalization specific advantages. 12) Theory of value chain : Cost advantage, Differentiation, Focus. However all these theories have the limit of illustration regarding today's competitive situation, the Porter's theory shows well the determinants of competitive advantage with competitive strategy. Therefore, the analysis of the competitive advantage for maritime industry should be studied by the determinants of competitive advantage of nations

  • Due to its vast range of areas and scopes of port logistics, professional training for port logistics experts has faced a limitation to raise manpower that the nation and companies ask for. This study looks at the current and expected demand and supply of workforce to identify necessary subjects and competitive factors in secondary education for training port logistics experts. Based on previous studies, this study proposes an assessment model by eliciting the priority of subjects in secondary education. and then, provides reasons for decision making.
