  • The purpose of this research is to delineate the effects of the material adult attachment and affectionate child-rearing behavior on the social competence of a child. The levels of mother's education and income, as well as the maternal adult attachment and affectionate child-rearing behavior have been chosen for the analysis. The sample subjects selected for the research include 287 pairs of fifth/sixth grade students, their mothers, and eight of the classroom teachers, all from Kwangiu city. The major findings are as follows: First, in measuring the social competence score of a child and the maternal adult attachment, affectionate child-rearing behavior, the scores, in general, tend to be above the mean scores. Second, looking at the correlation between the mother's education/income level and affectionate child-rearing and the child's social competence level, the affectionate child-rearing and the social competence factors only show difference correlating to the mother's education, high school or higher, as opposed to the level of junior high and lower, the difference is significant. Third, the results of multiple regression analysis on the effects of the variables to the child's social competence indicates that affectionate child-rearing is the most significant contributing factor, followed by the mother's education, the close attachment factor, income, and the anxiety attachment factor, in that order All in all, the variables account for 18% of the child's social competence score.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between young children's temperament, emotional regulation ability and mother's parenting sense of competence. Methods: The participants were comprised of 315 young children who attend a kindergarten or day care center and their mothers from Seoul, Inchon, and Gyeonggi-do Province. They completed questionnaires on temperament, emotion regulation ability, and parenting sense of competence. The data were analyzed by frequency analysis, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. Results: It was observed that young children's regularity/adaptability was positively correlated with sense of competence as a parent and young children's emotional regulation. Young children's regularity/adaptability was negatively correlated with dissatisfaction as a parent and young children's emotional instability/negativity. Sense of competence as a parent was positively correlated with young children's emotional regulation and negatively correlated with young children's emotional instability/negativity. In addition, it was further found that the mother's parenting sense of competence tended to play a perfectly/partially mediating role between young children's temperament and young children's emotional regulation ability respectively. Conclusion/Implications: These results clearly indicated that parenting sense of competence plays a crucial role between young children's temperament and emotional regulation.

Methods: The subjects of this study were 310 fifth and sixth grade students attending elementary school in Jeollanam-do. They responded to the level of communication with their fathers, peer competence, and happiness. For the data, t-test, Pearson's correlation analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis were performed. Results: First, there were some statistically significant differences according to gender differences in self-esteem and a sub-factor of happiness and the differences according to grades in open-type communication and problem-type communication. Second, it was found that children's happiness was highly correlated with communication with their fathers and peer competence. Third, the factors having the greatest relative influence on overall happiness were in the order of peer competence, open-type communication, problem-type communication, and gender. The variables influencing and the order of relative influence differed according to sub-factors of happiness. Conclusion/Implications: The present study revealed that peer competence has a significant impact on children's happiness. The results of this study suggest that research and development of convergent programs that can improve communication with fathers, peer competence, and children's happiness are necessary.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the influence of spirituality and job satisfaction on the compassion competence of hospice nurses. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of 118 hospice nurses from 16 hospitals in Daejeon, Chungcheong Province, and Jeolla Province. A self-administered survey was conducted using a structured questionnaire including the Spirituality Scale, Index of Work Satisfaction, the Compassion Competence Scale for Nurses, and general socio-demographic information. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the t-test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and hierarchical linear regression analysis using SPSS for Windows version 26.0. Results: Compassion competence was correlated with spirituality (r=0.66, P<0.001) and job satisfaction (r=0.52, P<0.001), and spirituality was correlated with job satisfaction (r=0.44, P<0.001). Spirituality (β=0.513, P<0.001) and job satisfaction (β=0.273, P<0.001) were significant factors affecting the compassion competence of hospice nurses, after adjusting for the sociodemographic and work-related covariates. The step-by-step results from hierarchical linear regression analysis also indicated that spirituality had a stronger impact than job satisfaction on compassion competence. Conclusion: Our findings demonstrate the importance of spirituality, which plays a role in guiding the compassion competence of hospice nurses. It is necessary to support the spirituality and job satisfaction of hospice nurses, which could facilitate their compassion competence and thereby contribute to improving the quality of hospice and palliative care.

  • The objective of this study is to conduct basic research for the development of programs for improving university students' communication competence. As such, it seeks to determine if positive psychological capital can mediate the relationship between the geometric psychology type and communication competence. To that end, 321 Korean university students were surveyed using a questionnaire, and the data underwent scale reliability analysis, regression analysis, and path analysis. Regression analysis revealed the consistent regression results of variables, including geometric psychology type, positive psychological capital, and communication competence. Path analysis confirmed that positive psychological capital mediated the relationship between the geometric psychology type and communication competence, and the results suggested different patterns according to type of geometric psychology. The circle type mediated the sub-variable resilience vis-a-vis communication competence, and directly influenced the latter. The triangle type mediated the sub-factors of positive psychological capital - self-efficacy and resilience -vis-a-vis communication competence, and thus influencing the latter. The square type mediated the sub-factor of positive psychological capital - self-efficacy - vis-a-vis communication competence, and directly influenced the latter. The S type did not mediate positive psychological capital vis-a-vis communication competence, but directly influenced the latter. Thus, considering the above findings, in order to develop university students communication improvement programs, programs should be developed with the application of positive psychological capital considering geometric psychology type.
